Sony Detail Jelly Bean Update for Xperia Smartphones

Android Jelly Bean

Sony has provided details on which of their Xperia handsets will be receiving the update to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean in the coming months.

Android Jelly BeanFirst up will be the Xperia T, Xperia TX and Xperia V which will start receiving the update from February and March next year. Going later on into March, and the Xperia J, Xperia P and Xperia Go will also be updated to Android 4.1.

More handsets are set to get the update later on in 2013, with Jelly Bean to be rolled out to the Xperia S, Xperia SL, Xperia Acro S and the Xperia Ion.

Jelly Bean was officially announced by Google back in June, so for some handsets it may be coming up to a year before they see Android 4.1, and by the time it comes to those devices, there may well be another update taking the latest version past the current Android 4.2.

Not all Xperia handsets will be getting the update, however, with the Xperia U, Xperia Miro, Xperia Tipo and Xperia Sola all remaining on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

No reasons have been given by Sony as to why the latter handsets are not getting the Jelly Bean update, however the usual reasons tend to be handset hardware limitations.

Sony hinted that they will be offering some 'Xperia specific' features mixed in with the update, which they are excited about. Further information on these features is set to be announced early in the New Year.
