DoorBot is a WiFi enabled doorbell, that lets you see and communicate with whoever is at your front door, even if you are not at home at the time.
The simple idea is DoorBot, once installed, connects to your home WiFi network. Download the DoorBot app to your smartphone or Tablet device, and when someone rings your doorbell, you can look to see who it is straight from your phone.
DoorBot supports one way video communication, so you can see who you are talking to, and two way audio so you can have a conversation.
There are many benefits to a system like DoorBot, it is for more than just meaning you don't have to get up to see who is at the door. It liberates you for having to wait in for a special delivery, it allows you to check who is ringing at your elderly parents home, it gives you the freedom to be out and about and still know who is calling at your front door.
DoorBot is made from solid materials that are designed to last, and is powered by four AA batteries, which should last for close to a year before needing to be replaced.
Another great feature is DoorBot can be linked to Lockitron. Lockitron is a remote door unlocking system, so if you are out of the house and workmen need to gain access, or your child left home without their key and you are out, you can answer the door and remotely open it to give them access.
Like Lockitron, DoorBoot is an idea that is looking for funding, using the crowdsourcing method. $250,000 is needed to get DoorBot into mass production, and so far donations sit at just over $15,000. For more details, and to perhaps make a donation to get DoorBot to market, visit the DoorBot website. You can also place a pre-order for the DoorBot product, or the DoorBot and Lockitron combination package, which will also help the project get underway. DoorBot as a standalone product costs $169, (Approx. £105), the combination package with Lockitron costs £319 (Approx. £199)
