Mobile phones have been sporting cameras for years, to the point that the digital camera market is under severe threat from camera bearing smartphones.
Over the years the capabilities of cameraphones have increased dramatically, with increased megapixels, improved image processing software and better quality lenses.
Cameraphones are great for capturing those fun moments, but for serious photography you need something extra. Turtleback have that something extra in mind with the launch of the TurtleJacket PentaEye Lens cover, which is designed for the iPhone 5.
The case is durable, made from aluminium, and is designed to fit the dimensions of the iPhone 5. On the back of the PentaEye case is a wheel, that is fitted with additional lenses.
There is a blank hole, which allows you to take standard shots via the iPhone camera, plus four additional lenses, comprising a Fisheye lens, a wideangle lens, a macro lens and a telephoto lens. The case also has two strap mounts, and a pair of tripod mounts, too.
Switching between the different lenses is so quick and easy, all you need to do is rotate the dial on the back of the case to select the lens you want for that particular shot. The wheel can also be detached, exposing a 37mm lens mount, which is compatible with the entire range of Turtleback lenses.
The attachment isn't too heavy, adding an additional 105g to the weight of the iPhone. The TurtleJacket PentaEye Lens case may have a limited appeal, but it would make an ideal Christmas present for those serious about their photography.
The TurtleJacket PentaEye Lens can be purchased from the Turtleback website, priced at around $260, which is approximately £162.
