High St. retailer Debenhams is to launch a range of men's jackets and coats that comes complete with built in headphones, speakers and control system.
The coats, designed by Hong Kong company C.Vox (Communiqué Vox) offer a safe way of being able to access your mobile phone and listen to your music on the move, whilst keeping your handset stowed away safe and sound.
As well as protecting your phone against the winter weather, it should also help keep it safe from being stolen, as you don't need to remove the phone from the safe internal pocket to use it.
Recent statistics from insurance firm LV showed that there were an average of 264 phone thefts every day in the first 8 months of 2012, an increase of 25% over the last three years. Many street robberies are opportunistic, occurring when a thief sees someone walking along with their phone in their hand. By keeping the device out of sight, Debenhams hope this will bring the number of robberies down.
The jackets feature a connector point in the jacket, which is compatible with all MP3 players and mobile phones. Earphones are then wired through the jacket, and concealed in the collar to prevent tangling. A built in speaker and microphone also allows you to answer any incoming calls. The jacket is even machine washable, so you don't have to worry about damaging the inbuilt electronics when giving it a clean.
“We are thrilled to be offering such an innovative product to our customers. The range incorporates fashion, technology and practicality at a competitive price,” said Paul Baldwin, head of Menswear Buying at Debenhams. “It is the perfect, safety conscious way to conceal gadgets whilst still being able to freely use them in public, it is the must have item for any commuter.”
The C.Vox jackets are due to be in Debenhams stores before Christmas, with prices starting from £65.
