Orange news

About Orange

Orange is part of EE, the network which also operates T-Mobile in the UK. It provides a broad range of pay monthly and pay as you go plans to suit different budgets, with a good choice of handsets. Alternatively, you can pick from a competitive selection of sim-only deals

History of Orange

Orange plc was established in 1995, although it existed as Microtel Communications before that.

In 1999, it was bought by German company Mannesmann AG, but when that company was acquired by Vodafone, Orange was sold to France Télécom, eventually going public in 2001.

In 2010, Orange merged with T-Mobile, creating a new parent company, Everything Everywhere - now just EE. Although both Orange and T-Mobile still exist as brands, they share the same network. That's why regardless of what brand you're with, the icon on your phone says 'EE'.

Orange Facts

  • British Aerospace owned the original company Microtel Communications which 20 years later through acquisition became Everything Everywhere
  • Orange's merger with T-Mobile created the largest mobile communications company in the UK, serving over 30 million users, over half the UK adult population.
  • EE employs over 16,000 people in the UK and has over 700 retail stores.

Orange Awards

  • Oct 2009 - Awarded Best Network at the What Mobile Awards
  • March 2009 - Named UK's Large Retailer, Best Innovative Service and Lifetime achievement award for CEO Tom Alexander at the Mobile News Awards

Orange Mobile Tariffs & Plans

Orange offers a big choice of handsets from most major manufacturers - from the latest Apple iPhone to budget handsets. Pay monthly plans for range from as little as £12, with sim-only plans starting at £8.

Orange's pay as you go plans are known for their animal branding on their top-ups, which include Dolphin, Canary, Racoon and Camel, each of which offer different things.
Dolphin, for example, gives you extra data and texts, while Canary gives you free calls and texts to other networks.

Orange Mobile Coverage in UK

As part of EE, Orange 3G coverage reaches 98% of the UK population.

4G is not available under the Orange name, but you can get it from EE. You can get the high-speed mobile internet in more than 160 towns across the UK.

If you want to see whether Orange coverage is good around where you live and work, use the coverage checker on EE's website.

Orange Customer Support

Orange UK is a young vibrant brand that engages and rewards its customers, benefits include Orange Wednesdays (2 for 1 Cinema Tickets and Pizza), Magic Numbers and Reserve Tank.

Orange also founded OrangeRockCorps, a fantastic initiative that rewards Orange customers who volunteer for community work in return for free exclusive concert and gig tickets.

Orange's handset and tariff options are extensive and flexible, account management can be accessed online, alongside a large searchable FAQ.
