Latest iPhone news

Is the iPhone right for you?

The iPhone, which Apple produce has been with us for a while now and went down a storm with consumers due to its ease of use, sleek sexy design and a plethora of mobile phone applications that no other manufacturer can rival at present via their app store.

It revolutionised the way we think of our mobile phones - in fact we now see them as smartphones because they are so intuitive, performing and acting more like a personal computer in the palm of our hands which we can take on the go with us. Never before has our mobile phone handset kept us in communication so well on the go with our friends, family, emails, social media and the internet.

All Apple phones run on their own operating system known as iOS which is famed for being elegantly simple and easy to use. This allows Apple to keep a tight grip on security and usability compared to Android mobiles which are more open due to it being an open source Operating System which can be used by any manufacturer.

The latest incarnation, the iPhone 5 brought us the same great features we have all gotten used to but with the biggest screen seen yet on one of Apple's mobile handsets. It also comes in a slimmer, lighter frame and claims to offer better battery life than its predecessors.

The earlier model, theiPhone 4S, was another leap forward from the previous iPhone 4 giving users more innovation with dual core processing power for advanced apps/games, 8 megapixel camera with video recording at HD 1080p and Siri voice commands with iOS 5.

This is all on top of the existing iPhone 4 Retina Display with remarkable clarity of picture, multitasking, HD video and its feature, FaceTime giving family and friends who also have an iPhone 4 or 4S face to face calls (*if a wireless network is available).

Finding the best iPhone deals

Apple have created a premium product that costs even to buy the handset as well as the contract on top which puts many users off. However Apple create stunning devices with a user experience that many believe cannot be rivalled due to ease of use on its iOS software which continues to attract many loyal customers not to mention the app store which has far more apps than any other operating system.

Everything is integrated and made as simple as possible across updates, adding your MP3s or installing the latest app or game. There are alternative handsets from rival manufacturers with hardware more powerful than Apple handsets but the learning curve is sometimes a bit too much and the user support is not as easily accessible. It just seems everyone knows how to pick up an iPhone and know how to use it which is a credit to Apple.

We have a variety of iPhone deals available to search through at varying prices. Compare iPhone tariffs to find the best iPhone contracts to suit your budget based on a variety of criteria including data allowance, upfront cost, minutes and texts.

Alternative options to buying an iPhone

The mobile phone market is getting more fierce by the day with many manufacturers targeting the iPhone as the primary benchmark. Manufacturers like HTC, Samsung and Sony to name a few, tend to produce new handsets on a more regular basis than Apple so their hardware often surpasses the iPhone family of phones or in fact are already ahead.

They are also making inroads into making their user interfaces on par with the iPhone. Google pioneered the operating system, Android. Certainly Android phones are at the forefront of that movement and offers a lot of powerful options that Apple do not offer. Business users have often remained loyal to Blackberry phones with their own particular OS in a similar nature to Apple and Windows phones which are gaining a fair bit of momentum lately with consumers is a very viable alternative.

Why shouldn't I buy an iPhone though?

Very good question. The iPhone is a premium product and Apple have kept it that way for many reasons. But with any premium product expect to pay for it. Contracts are usually quite expensive as you have to be looking at the top end of the market. On top of that you will likely have to pay an upfront cost for the handset. This is an expensive outlay. Many will argue that the handset will hold its value better but this should not be a reason to choose one. Competitor phones by Samsung, HTC and Sony which run on a variety of Android and Windows will usually be available on a cheaper tariff as well as the handset being free. Couple that with the fact these handsets are quite often more powerful than the iPhone and you really have think how much you want the iPhone as for many the sums just don't add up.
