has a really crisp screen which is responsive to touch
I have been using HTC based phones for several years now and really do like their touch screens and the Windows Mobile platform. The MDA Compact III has a really crisp screen which is responsive to touch (I often use my nails which works fine as well as a stylus) but also has a nifty 'mouse mode' where you can use the little blue ball in the middle as a mouse. This works really well and is great for one handed phone usage - something other touch screen phones often lack.
The phone has all the usual tricks with word, internet, Windows Media Player and so on. I tend to find I don't really use word or excel - the screen is just a bit too small for sensible usage. But the media player is pretty good and the expandable memory (micro SD) means you can get a lot of music on there.
My only gripe is there is no built in way to turn off your data (internet) connection - nor the GPS update feature - great if you use the net or the GPS for TomTom - but recently I decided to stop using the net (£10 a month unlimited internet with T-mobile) to save money - I loved using MSN messenger on long train journeys but with the credit crunch and all thought it a place to cut down - but with all the shortcuts from the media player and web'n'walk button on the phone I ended up accidentally connecting quite often. This is solved with some free software which turns off the data connection but there is nothing natively supplied with the phone. Not sure if this is just with T-Mobiles version or not but it did annoy me.
Other than that - Really love this phone. I have dropped it countless times and it is still working fine - much more rugged than it appears due to having a metal casing. Not too big or heavy and possible for one handed use. Recommended.
facilities of a top mobile phone with the equipment of the best PDA
A great all round mobile phone/PDA, easy to use, good range of facilities. A practical phone, perhaps only downside is it is a little fragile. It has all the facilities of a top of the range mobile phone with quite a lot of the equipment of the best PDA. It works on Windows Mobile 5, easy to connect and synchronise with your home pc, great organiser functions.
Does everything that I require it to do and more
I bought the MDA Compact from T-Mobile because of its reputation and since then it has more than lived up to it. It does everything that I require it to do and more, I would not be without it and would recommend it to anyone who wishes to own a phone at the leading edge of technology.
