T-Mobile has entered the realm of smart phone with the G1

T-Mobile has entered the realm of smart phone with the G1. Looking on the outside there is not much to see, very simple. Inside however is a different story. This Google phone is powered by Android, an open share operating systems, allowing the phone to compete with the iphone and the Apple iphone apps. overall though a great phone.

Good visual and sound quality

I love this phone, it has everything I need, useful apps for everyday life and games for when im bored. Good visual and sound quality, and is a very stylish looking phone, even now people always want to look at my phone. In my opinion its better looking than the G2 aswell.

The Android market is very useful

The design and technology of this model looks appealing, however the hardware wears out very fast and buttons stop working on the keypad. The android market is very useful and maximizes the phones potential but downloading too many applications makes the battery life run out very quick.

The camera and video recorder are satisfactory but you cannot zoom in or out therefore making it harder to catch images you want. There is no bluetooth software in the phone but with wifi and gps tracker you can't get lost or bored.

after a while I loved this phone

At first I found this phone a little hard to use and was odd using a keyboard but after a while I loved this phone. The camera on it isnt too brilliant though, it blurs even if you move very slightly when taking the picture. Its good for downloading free apps.

all my kids and their friends think I am cool for once

Really easy to use and for once I am using all the possible applications so it must be easy. Even the market place is easy to access and there are plenty of free downloads that on my friends iPhone costs her money. I am never giving mine up and all my kids and their friends think I am cool for once.

brilliant photos, slim and easy to carry around

Phone is really easy to use the only problem I find with this phone is the texting is a bit of a struggle. The applications are really good and fun to use. The picture quality and camera are really good and take brilliant photos. It is one of my favourite phones I have had as it is slim and easy to carry around.

It's easy to use and I love the applications

I love this phone. Although, it is a bit bigger than your average phone nowadays, it was somehow what I expected. It's easy to use and I love the applications. Like everything out there, there's always room for improvement. I would like to see a lighter replica of this phone, with more applications.

was not told that the bluetooth was for handsfree only

I have found the phone is hard to set up but once you get the hang of the phone it is very easy to use, I also was not told that the bluetooth was for handsfree only, that was very disapointing to me as I use my bluetooth alot, now I have to set my phone up to the computer to put anything on it or I have to get them to mms them instead.

very stylish phone with many features, missing bluetooth though

The G1 is a very stylish phone with many features that you will enjoy. It has a camera and video recorder, music player and so much more. I really enjoy the G1 expecially the games because it takes you into a different world and being able to download straight from the android market is a bonus. The only thing I would like to see is bluetooth because I really miss having it.

QWERTY keyboard really helps with the speed of texting

I feel that this phone does everything that I need it to do and it is always doing system updates to make sure that it has all the new features that android have brought out for it. The QWERTY keyboard really helps with the speed of texting and I would say that it is the best phone I have had.

Highly recommended - blew my mind away - rival to iphone

I've been using this phone for the last month and have to say it's absolutely brilliant. It's commonly referenced as the first major competitor to the iPhone, and rightly so.

In fact, having tried both a fair amount I'd say anybody thinking of buying an iPhone should seriously consider the G1, and here's five reasons why:

1) The capacitive touch screen is just as nice and responsive as the iPhone's, meaning interaction with the phone is amazingly smooth. The general UI of android is also very nice indeed, and can be modified massively using extensions from the market (though I just keep the default)

2) The android market, used for downloading apps, while maybe not quite as extensive as the iPhone's yet, is still very impressive indeed, boasting such amazing apps as ShopSavvy, and Shazam

3) Multitouch, although not enabled by default, can be acquired by 'rooting' the phone and installing any of the main modified firmwares, which is entirely free and takes about 10 minutes. This has many other advantages as well, such as allowing you administrator access to all of your files, meaning you can install a fully functional linux distribution, upgrade to the latest android build directly from the source tree, use your phone as a wireless router (using its amazingly fast internet connection) and many other things

4) Unlike the iPhone (and the HTC Magic), this phone comes with an inbuilt keyboard, as well as a standard OSK if you use the latest version of android, which means that you have a choice depending on whether you want to type just a few words or a whole email.

5) Contacts, Email, Calendar etc. sync with google is AMAZING and cannot be ignored. Unlike almost all other products of its type, this phone uses a push system from google to receive updates, so rather than say checking your email automatically every 5 minutes it gets notified directly by google, and usually you'll have your email in your hands within something like 30 seconds.

6) I can't leave without mentioning the inbuilt compass, which acts as a brilliant partner to the GPS and accelerometer, allowing such applications as Google SkyMap (point anywhere at the sky and it will display on screen a sky map of exactly where you're pointing), as well as generally making navigation with Google Maps much easier.

Well there you have it. The G1 is an absolutely amazing phone which blew my mind away solidly for about 2 weeks. Highly --Highly-- recommended.

applications are excellent, screen very good

The features are amazing, applications are excellent, screen very good, battery not great (was charging twice a day) and the camera is worse than on a very average phone of 4 years ago. If you do not use the camera, the music player and dont mind charging constantly you should go for this phone.

only downside of the G1 is the battery life

The only downside of the G1 is the battery life, I don't use my phone to its full extent and I have to charge it every 2 to 3 days. My boyfriend who does use the phone HAS to charge it every night and then it doesn't last the full day.Other than that it is a great phone.

Not as good as the iPhone but its very close

Not as good as the iPhone but its very close and it has an advantage over the iPhone wich is the keyboard, this probably made up my mind to get the T-Mobile G1 instead of the iPhone
and I am on T-Mobile meaning I didnt have to change my number.

Smart looking phone, although it takes a while to get used to

Smart looking phone, although it takes a while to get used to it, if you are more used to using a normal phone keypad. The screen is bright and easy to navigate around. The phone book function is a little long winded, and again can take some getting used to.

The phone only came with an information sheet to get started. No big manual like with some other makes. (Not sure if that was just left out of mine, or in general)

feels like an extension of my arm

Ever wanted another limb, well this is an extremely compact little gadget, feels like an extension of my arm. Very easy to get to grips with all its little quirks, this is the phone most people would decide they wanted after playing with their elder brothers new phone just to upstage him.

Screen resolution is excellent and the colors are extensive. Battery life is also good, mine lasts up to 36 hours. Speakers sound like stereo surround sound, crystal clear and crisp. Also the apps market is extensive and very informative as is the manuel that comes with the G1.

There is so much to say about this phone I could type a way for ever, just take my word for it you need this phone.

top marks in general except battery life

Great handset, top marks in general except battery life (don't leave home without your charger). Downloads apps in seconds when connected to wireless/hotspot. Also, how could HTC not have designed it for use with a stylus (like the iPhone i guess), but would have been useful.

If you're planning on buying one, buy a decent leather pouch as the standard G1 soft pouch is useless...oh and take out insurance because you will bond with this handset and it would be sad to lose it and not be covered.

screen flips out in a cool sliding way and it gives way to the keyboard

The design of the G1 makes the phone look cool, smooth, but the slot for the sd card can be quite hard to find and get out.

The features of the G1 are the free applications, games and you also get to move the widgets around and copy and paste files and folders, kinda like a phone version of Windows Vista but faster and easier to use.

The other main feature I like about the G1 is that the screen flips out in a cool sliding way and it gives way to the keyboard which if you see it you may think it would be hard to use and control but its not its actually really easy. Also the touch screen is fast acting and easy to use.

Overall I think this phone is the best one out their for the deals and the overall phone itself and for what it can do that other phones cant do.

I've not had it a week and I want to burn it

I first saw this phone and thought this is for me, it wasnt until I got it working when I found that the only good things about it are the menu and home screen.

I detest the fact that you can only change a limited section of the settings. You cant set your own text alerts, all notifacations are the same tone. The speaker is not loud at all, imagine a mouse farting.

Nice design but all in all get the HTC TYTN 2. A must if your like me and like to personalise everything about the unit so that you enjoy the 18 months you have it for.

I'm on a contract with T-Mobile which means I can change the plan or phone within 14 days of signing the contract, I've not had it a week and I want to burn it.

it is the phone to be seen with, the hype was well worth it

The new T-Mobile G1 with the new 'Android' platform is daunting to look at but get it out of the box, wow, his phone is soooo adictive.

The reason I can say this is I work in a sales environment where these things are never missed and so far the office is buzzing with the little wonders, there are so many applications and features you always finding something new.

Not only is it the perfect phone for personal and business use, it is the phone to be seen with, the hype was well worth it.
