Sony Ericsson W880i Reviews

Sony Ericsson W880i Overview
The Sony Ericsson W880i Walkman mobile phone in silver is extremely stylish. Its main selling point is the MP3 player functionality which the Walkman suggests with a capacity of 1000 songs. It is an incredibly slim device, 9.4mm thin, one of the thinnest in the world, to compliment the good looks. It has a large 1.8 inch colour screen and easy navigation. It has 3G capabilities including video calls. It also features a 2 megapixel camera for taking photos and video recording.

keys are very small and you easily can press the wrong one
Overall this phone works well but the keys are very small and you easily can press the wrong one. The phone occasionally hangs up when you are mid conversation for no apparent reason. There are however, many good features like handsfree speaker (although this is not very loud or clear). Bluetooth connection is excellent.
Sony products, they aren't the cheapest but are value for money
Whilst the small keys take a while to get used to they do make it look better. The camera and the walkman (mp3/4) player are all very good as you would expect from Sony.
The fact that you have a seperate memory card from your sim card helps those of us with older sim cards (who have had the same sim card for the many years we have had a mobile phone).
I haven't found many accessories or covers for this particular model - as I have the mainly orange model (not my choice) and as this is one of my least favourite colours I have kept an eye out.
The Sony Ericsson website is very good and updating the phone's software is really easy. The website includes some really good free software and there are free ringtones for all tastes.
Which reminds me - this model doesn't have the loudest ring in the world but is loud enough for most people just not a good one for those with hearing problems. I usually hear it ringing inside my packed handbag.
As it is a very slim model it does work its way down inside my handbag even when I deliberately put it on top to help me hear it in a busy shopping centre. The size does make it easy to put in a pocket or even a very small handbag (on a nightout).
I personally haven't used the web based access or e-mail because I don't have a data plan with my mobile network. However I know somebody else with the same model who uses this and is very happy with it.
As has been my experience with other Sony products, they aren't the cheapest but are value for money!
Loved this phone - although not quite up to the standards of the K800i
Loved this phone - although not quite up to the standards of the K800i, it's got a great mp3 player and a slick interface. Buttons are easy to use and accessible, a little too accessible in the case of the internet button which can often click on by accident, but it's still a great phone to use and largely problem free.
This is my work phone and I dislike it incredibly
This is my work phone and I dislike it incredibly. I find the keys are tiny, so you end up hitting two instead of just the one. I have had it for a good few months now and I still cant find the volume button on it as the speaker is very low when on loudspeaker.
There really isnt anything that I like about this phone, its very small which to some would be an advantage but I can never find it in my handbag. I am waiting for a new Nokia from work...thank god, cannot wait to get rid of it.
On the other hand though a colleague of mine loves his work phone which is the same but he is a male and thinks it is a very manly phone not for women - too edgy and masculine.
annoying internet button on the exterior
As with all Sony Ericsson's, this phone has the annoying internet button on the exterior which causes you to often connect to the internet (at a cost) without realising, I have yet to work out a way of getting round this. It's a nifty phone all the same, looks good, good buttons and interface, the screen is excellent too.
got it a little wet and the damn thing kept turning itself off
Had this phone for over a year, got it a little wet and the damn thing kept turning itself off. I have other phones get wet and it never effected them like this one, also when making calls people have complained they can't hear me, found myself shouting down the phone to be heard.
the mega bass feature makes tunes sound great
This phone is an excellent mobile for Music, it has a good memory and the mega bass feature makes tunes sound great. The camera is not bad. Only poor thing about this phone is that it switches itself off quite alot, without even touching it on a full battery.
this Ericsson is an absolute bargain for a quality phone
The slim design of the phone and its many features (pictures, multi media messaging, walkman, Apple computer compatability and easy synchronising - even though I know I don't use it to its fullest) mean that the Ericsson is an absolute bargain for a quality phone. Great battery life. Easy to use and available on loads of different tariffs.
the shake facility makes access to my music simplicity itself
I have been using this phone since April 08, I find it easy to use and love the shake facility. The radio is easy to access. I have my favorite tunes saved on it and the shake facility makes access to my music simplicity itself. I would recommend the W880i, I bought it as I have had a K800i previously and it was a natural upgrade to go for.
The Sony Ericsson W880i is a piece of engineering genius
The Sony Ericsson W880i is a piece of engineering genius, it is small and lightweight which makes it great to use and carry with you wherever you may be.
After having this phone for just over one year I have only found one flaw, this is with the internet button on the top left of the keypad, it is to easy to press it when not wanting to which I have done. This is a problem if you do not have the internet as part of your contract or you dont want to waste credit surfing the internet.
Thats its one bad point so lets have a look at all its good points. The W880i has a camera which is great to use and take photos with especially since it is meant to be a Walkman phone, which leads me onto its music capabilities which are astounding.
You are able to play all your music that you have put onto the phone easily and efficiently, you can also use headphones with it which is an added bonus if in a public place.
Overall the Sony Ericsson W880i is a great phone and a must buy for Walkman lovers who also want a camera.
internet access is basic and hard to naviagate
Good phone but nothing special, battery keeps going flat after a few months. Sturdy phone nice and slim, fits in my pocket easily and hasn't broken yet solid metal case. Clear picture and good memory for tunes etc, sounds good but internet access is basic and hard to naviagate.
very slim and has a large screen area with good picture clarity
This is a nice looking phone, it is very slim and has a large screen area with good picture clarity. It has an above average range of features including the ability to use it as a remote control for your computer but it is significantly let down by its poor usability.
so much so that I do not use my MP3 player anymore
Always had Sony Ericsson's and think they are great, this is good for listening to music, so much so that I do not use my MP3 player anymore. It's very small and slimline, and even fits in my purse. The buttons are quite small, but you soon get used to that. I have the bright orange one, and people always comment on it.
was too easy to knock the internet button
I used this phone for a year and only got rid of it due to a free upgrade. I found it very easy to use, the camera was good for a phone camera and the pictures were very clear. The only problem I found with this phone is it was too easy to knock the internet button if the keylock was not on and run up large bills.
this enabled me to sell my digital camera as no need with this phone
Great phone, easy to text with as it remembers previous sentences and predicts what you want to say. The camera is awesome, this enabled me to sell my digital camera as no need with this phone.
It is an ultra slim design, which keeps it lightweight and easy to carry around with you.
the screen is really clear and the camera is good quality
This phone is small and stylish, the screen is really clear and the camera is good quality, on the downside it has really small buttons so if you have large hands you might find it difficult to text if you do that alot, but apart from that its great.
Great handset from Sony Ericsson, slim, stylish and good quality
A great handset from Sony. Good photo quality and excellent Sony Ericsson Walkman. The phone is slim and stylish looking (I pefer the black but it also comes in silver) and it is a very easy to use handset. I would say the only downside to it and its not a massive one, but would be that it does not have a radio. Overall brilliant.
It is very easy to use and get used to, good size too
This phone is nice and thin and small in shape. It is very easy to use and get used to. The camera is very good and has very good bluetooth connectivity. However the buttons are small and can sometimes be hard to use and you may accidentally press the wrong buttons depending on how big your fingers are.
always used Nokia and Samsung but this phone has exceeded everything
I have always used Nokia and Samsung but this phone has exceeded everything, I have never had any problems even after dropping it in water, for a 2MP camera the quality is excellent and a bonus with the 1GB memory card all with the package.
I can find little fault, the Walkman feature is brilliant
This is the first Sony Ericsson phone I have owned, I have always previously owned Nokia mobile phones, so was a little sceptical before I received my W880i as I had entered into an 18 month contract.
However, my worries were unfounded. To begin with the phone looks great, very trendy, and has a surprisingly large screen for a small handset. It is just under 1cm thick, which is good as it will therefore look inconspicuous when in your pocket.
One negative though, is the size of the buttons - they are tiny, but with practice, this won't be too much of a problem.
With regards to features, I can find little fault. Firstly the Walkman feature is brilliant, enabling you to hold literally hundreds of songs. Other standard features are as you would expect and are all easily accessible/changeable. All in all, a very nice little phone.
All in all a great phone and I'm in no hurry to upgrade
This is an excellent mobile phone, the best I've had in years. It's small and lightweight and is ideal to keep in your jacket pocket, and not feel like you have a house brick in there. The buttons are a bit small which is the only downside.
It's great for listening to MP3's and the sound quality really is very good. I have to charge it every 3 or 4 days but I do use it a lot for texting, games and music. All in all a great phone and I'm in no hurry to upgrade.
A durable, inexpensive phone with some nice features
This mobile phone has some great features considering its price, the design I rated a 3 mainly because of the very small buttons that can get annoying and its weird to type. Very user friendly and easy navigation, average features you get on all phones and an ok 2.0 megapixel camera. One thing I do know and have tested with this phone is its durability which is good.
hard to find better for this money
Very stylish looking phone, super slim with excellent Walkman facility. The buttons are quite fiddley though but you have to expect comprimise with a phone as slim as this. Web browser is functional and easy to use, hard to find better for this money. A superb piece of kit.
Designed more around being a Walkman than a camera phone
I really like this mobile phone. Its small, sleek and easy to use, however the keypad buttons are small so I wouldnt recommend it to people with large hands or bad eyesight.
The camera provides average pictures but its really designed more around being a Walkman than a camera phone so it isn't its best feature. The Walkman is great though, again easy to use and to upload tunes onto.
Use the sim it comes with and not the unlocked version
Slim line and easy to use, keypad is not for the fat fingered. Quick to access and easy to set up, just make sure you use the sim it comes with and not the unlocked version as setting up picture messaging and internet access is a bit of a ball ache, oh and make sure you get a hard case as it looks better not scratched up.
Exceptionally thin yet packed with power
The Ericsson W880i is a great phone, exceptionally thin yet packed with power. The music is superb (make sure it comes with at least a 1gb card). The camera is only 2.0 megapixels but is good enough for snaps and can take decent photos in low light.
The menu is simple to operate, plenty of features, the software provided makes it easy to transfer files to and from a computer, a great little phone.
Photos printed you would never know they were taken on a camera phone
When I first got this phone I had lots of technical problems with it. After the 3rd time of sending it in for repair O2 replaced it and I think I was just unlucky with the first one.
The new one is great, cannot fault it. I always choose a phone with a camera and this one is great, when I get photos printed you would never know they were taken on a phone camera. I also love the size of the phone, it fits nicely in my pocket or bag and is lightweight.
I cannot praise it enough!
I changed to Sony from Samsung because I had been disappointed with battery life and features that just didn't work.
Best thing I ever did, the Sony works like a dream, everything I have tried has worked first time and it looks great, the battery seems to last for days, downloading has worked seemlessly.
The keyboard may be tiny little buttons but they have a lovely "clicking" action which is quite affirmative, even a text-duffer like me has no trouble sending text messages easily.
I have synched up to a bluetooth headset easily and can use all the voice tags no trouble at all. I cannot praise it enough, sad really as I do like a good grumble!
Very good phone, good quality, stunning features, unrivalled design
The W880i is one of Sony Ericsson's Walkman phones, but unlike many of its predecessors, it is stylish beyond compare. The phone's design is superb - less than 10mm thick, it will fit in a CD case! The stylish silver or black and orange exterior really does make this phone stand out.
The phone has full 3G capabilities, and watching TV on the go is easy with this phone. The phone has a superb 2MP camera on the back, and a small camera on the front for video calling.
The phone's intuitive menu is typical of Sony Ericsson, and without instructions you can master basic tasks within 10 minutes - the keypad is different to most phones (the keys are single raised bars) and, I think, is very nice to use, although my friends who tried the phone were divided - it is very much a personal preference.
This is a Walkman phone and I have now sold my MP3 player because this phone does everything I need from a music device. Its Memory Stick Duo mini slot means that masses of music can be taken with you anywhere you go.
Overall, this is a very good phone, with good build quality, stunning features and unrivalled design.
for me its an iPod with a built in phone
The Ericsson W880i is an excellent phone - best I have had so far, its my ipod that rings when someone needs me haha!! as I say for me its an iPod with a built in phone!!
The buttons can be too small to use for some people, my hubby finds it hard to txt on it but fine for me, sleek, nice looking and loads of memory space too
Great music phone not camera phone - easy to use
Very versatile phone. Looks great in silver and is easy to use.
1GB memory so can hold lots of songs and music player is of a very good quality.
No flash on the camera and photos are not of a very high quality so use a digital camera instead!!
The W880i is a very special phone
I bought the w880i because I really wanted a small and unobstrusive phone that wouldn't weigh heavy in my pocket.
I was also attracted to the large screen and the good sized memory that would make it good for mp3 playing too.
The buttons were a downside but after a few days I was used to them. One thing I didn't get use to was the poor camera. Only good for outside daylight shots.
Overall a special phone indeed!
Can't find a replacement phone which is better
I love this phone... had it a nearly a year now though. My contract is due an upgrade but I cannot find a phone that I think will be better!!!
It's gorgeuous looking and even has a suedette feel to its rear surface!
It holds loads of songs. Menu's are very easy.
The keypad buttons are small but you get used to them!!
Surfing the internet is fast and simple.
I can't fault this phone! I am seriously thinking of keeping it and having the money off my contract instead. It's still very stylish and gets good comments all the time ;-)
