all the features you need and the personalisation is great
A well stocked phone that's easy to use with a good camera and a great walkman music player and cool light systems which you can personalise to your tastes - makes it like a mini-disco!
I've had 3 of these now because they're easy to use, come with all the features you need and the personalisation is great. If I HAD to moan, the camera could be a little sharper (I think it's 2MP) and the battery could last a little longer but that's a common thing with a lot of phones.
The W580i fits nicely into your hand and the menus are intuitive and well laid out, easy to navigate. With memory card installed you can store loads of music for playback and/or photos/videos.
You can also download applications and surf the net easily. All round, a great little phone
great to text with, and all of its features are great
I love this phone. Probably the best phone I have ever had. Its great to text with, and all of its features are great especially the 'Sport' features, like the step counter, and theres even a little Sport pop quiz on there for you too.
The ringtones are ok, but nothing too great. The sound is good, and its not too heavy or chunky.
Also, they have thought about making peoples lives easier, for example, just by pressing the little volume button on the side, brings up your phone number, model of the phone, what percentage of battery you have left, and how much memory is free.
Its a good phone, and well worth the money.
I am not the most forgiving with my mobile phone
Although this phone is great to look at, it's pink, and a nice slide-up design, I have found this phone to have a lot of design flaws.
All of the buttons crack, the sim card spring has broken so the battery has to hold it in place now- which is very temperamental. I am not the most forgiving with my mobile phone, but what I am trying to say is that it is not hard wearing.
There are a few nice unique features to this phone though, it has a step counter, which can be really interesting and useful if you're into fitness. Also it has a walkman feature which changes track when you shake the phone (sometimes it's the simple things!)
Personally I would not get this phone again just because I have experienced a lot of breaks and aggravation with mine, however, it's not the worst phone in the world.
Easy to use and navigate, good value
Well the phone in terms of how easy it is to navigate, I would give it a high ranking. I found it so easy to use. Also the sound, picture and layout were also very good. Also at a good high street price this phone was a good buy. It's also a nice modern looking phone. Only errors I ever encountered was when I had, had the phone for around six months and it would just freeze up and turn off

Great as an MP3 player
Really good phone, even when I dropped it in water it worked. Now I can't say you have done that with all my phones.
The pedometer was a very good feature as I used it every day at work. I really liked the fact you could use it as an mp3 player or a radio. Used it every morning walking to work and really good sound.
good features and good value for money
Simple to use, good music player and with an appealing look - has only a few choices of colours. Does not have good internet and is subject to a few faults and has had to be replaced twice. Overall though it is a reasonable phone with some good features and good value for money.
If you like music, this phone is a must
If you like music, this phone is a must. Being a Walkman phone the main feature is the Walkman player and I have to say, it definitely is just like having a seperate mp3 player. The headphones you recieve with the phone are excellent, they fit in your ears with comfort and have good sound quality, I even use them with my iPod! Other than the walkman player the phone is a good all rounder and I would recommend it to anyone as it's easy to use.

simply just too fragile and not practical enough
This phone only lasted me around four months. It was great for the first two months as I loved the sleek design and the features included in the phone.
However I dropped the phone and it broke straight away and had to pay £15 to get it in repair. Only for it to break again the next month. I also had problems with the headset feature of the phone as the volume was barely hearable and the speakers did not work properly on the phone. I would not recommend it as it's simply just too fragile and not practical enough!
have this phone in white and love it
I have this phone in white and love it! It is really easy to use, and the screen is a fair size and is very clear. The internet is good, so is the radio and it can hold a lot. The only thing that I would warn people about is the opening and closing of the phone. I have only had this phone for 3 months and already it sometimes gets stuck when being slid up and down, and can take a while to fix.
an outstandingly hard wearing mobile phone
The Sony Ericsson W580i is, I feel, an outstandingly hard wearing mobile phone. I have accidentally dropped it out of a window, and it survived with only a minor scratch. The technology on it is good, although I have found that on the music function it tends to change track on its own.
I have also found that the light behind the keypad turns itself on occassionally. Both minor problems, overall great phone! would recommend.

on my third replacement and now I just give up
I found ever since I bought this phone the buttons crack one by one. I am on my third replacement and now I just give up! I am not addicted to my phone so I wouldn't say the keys are broken for that. I am also really careful with my phone, I never drop it.
brilliant it has all the extra features I could want
I received my new mobile phone for christmas which is now four months ago and it is brilliant it has all the extra features I could want games, mp3 player and I can transfer between my laptop and the phone. It looks nice and smart however the only problem I am starting to have now is that it freezes on the odd occasion.
on my third handset now and the keys havent split so far
I got this mobile on contract for 18 months. Within a week the keys split in half and I had to have a replacement handset. The new handset lasted 2 weeks before the keys split in half again. Orange knew there was a fault with the design of this mobile yet they still supply it.
Overall it is a great mobile, if it wasnt for the keys splitting I would recommend it. I am on my third handset now and the keys havent split so far but one of the keys gets stuck and I have to press it lots of times to work, which is annoying.

its good value for money and its light
I liked the phone very much as it was easy to use, its good value for money and its light. Its good at sliding the buttons, easy like as sponge was under them getting on the internet quickly it doesnt crash like some of the other phones I've had. The picture quality is very good the music sound is very good I've got a grey colour with light blue which is very nice.
generally this phone is a good buy
A good phone. The camera is very average, with limited capabilities but the MP3 player is excellent and has Walkman facilities. The keys are prone to cracking, which is a disappointment. I have found the battery to be "greedy", but generally this phone is a good buy.
I have had to take my handset back 3 times
This phone looks great has alot of great features and has alot of memory but it is not very reliable. I have had to take my handset back 3 times infact it is in getting fixed now.
The first time was because my buttons had cracked, the second was because the buttons had cracked again and the memory card kept coming loose and some of the buttons would not work, losing my pictures and music and now it wont charge or upload any pictures onto my PC.
I have also heard that other people have had the same problems, I have had my phone for less than a year.
Strengths
Excellent Memory
Looks Good
Good Camera
Weakness

Buttons Stop Working

Wont Load Pictures Onto P.C

very good features and the design of the phone is very good
This phone is one of the best phones that I have ever bought! It is very simple to use with easy to read and understandable instructions for everything. There are very good features and the design of the phone is very good.
The phone is very hard wearing and has an excellent range of different phone covers available(these have to be bought separately). The phone has a really good camera that can be used at the touch of a button. I can't really fault the phone. It is really simple to set alarms so you are never late for anything.
Texting and calling are its basic features and they offer a very good service. You can get a signal anywhere with it if you change the phones profile. It also has really good and simple to use internet access.
I actually cannot fault it. Its not even that expensive! It has bluetooth and all the other features that you could wish for including WAP. You can design your own videos and photoshop your favouirite photos. It's definitely the phone to buy.
a great phone and I will stick with Sony in future
a lovely size, fits easily into handbags/ pockets etc. The shape is curved and looks extremely modern. The walkman side of the phone is amazing- this is the 2nd Sony phone I have bought because my old phone lasted and lasted-even when dropped a number of times!
The bluetoothing is fast and music sounds great whether listened through headphones or speakers (they are on the phone or can be purchased separately).
Downside is buttons are close together and the slide mechanism can be a bit annoying. Still a great phone and I will stick with Sony in future.
would consider it one of the best phones I have had
I had a Sony Ericcsson W580i and would consider it one of the best phones I have had. I now have a Sony Ericsson W595 which I think is a good phone but maybe not as good as the W580i. Although the camera is 3.2 megapixels the quality of the photo is not as good as the 2.0 mega pixel camera on the W580i which is odd.

Problematic for me
I have had this phone for little over two months and already the case has broken, without me dropping the phone! The phone also freezes all the time when texting and in the middle of calls, and when the phone restarts it then says either insert sim or sim inactive, neither of which are correct.
great phone for customization and music
The shake feature in the Walkman is great for music listeners and it's so simple to use. The camera isn't the most advanced but it still takes good photo's. The light effects on the sides match the colour of your theme and you can customize the colour when receiving phone calls and you can assign different colours to different people in your phone book, i love that. Its a great phone for customization and music.
has a nice clear sound and the matching headphones are cool
I like Sony, it has a nice smooth slide. The camera is clear for this budget walkman phone. The menu has easy to use icons. There are some really good features on this phone, like the fitness coach, great to have a little personal trainer with you, counting steps etc. The Walkman has a nice clear sound and the matching headphones are cool. Although I would have liked the phone to have been slightly louder.

This phone is great, it ticks all the right boxes
This phone is great, it ticks all the right boxes
Design, the slide up and down design is very useful and the phone isnt big its just the right size. Also the changing colour lights on either side are excellent and flash when you are recieving a call
Features, it has a fitness coach on there which measures how many steps you have taken and how many calories you have burnt. I use this all time and is brillant
Usability, it is really easy to use and the buttons aren't hard to press and can easily be pushed with out hitting the wrong button.
fantastic for storing music and has a sleek design
This phone is fantastic for storing music and has a sleek design, kind to anybodys eyes to look at. One problem many people find with this phone is that on occasions the sound may crackle when you slide up or down the phone, other than that it is very easy to use and reliable.
less than a year and all the key buttons are cracked
The Sony Ericsson W580i is a good phone, I like the design and it is easy to use. I like the fact that the model comes in a variety of different colours. However, I have had the phone for less than a year and all the key buttons are cracked and also phone turns itself off now and again.
or

the Walkman feature is excellent
This phone is one of the best I have had in a long time, it has access to the internet which is cheap, the Walkman feature is excellent and cuts out the hassle of having an mp3 player as you get 2 for the price of 1. It can have many different coloured covers which is like a girls best friend, well worth buying.
shake function is a good idea, but you have to hold a button each time
Good looking phone, with good music functions. The shake function is a good idea, but you have to hold a button each time to change the track, which kind of defeats the purpose. The fitness application is a great idea, with a step counter and calorie counter.
Overall it is a decent phone, if you like Sony Ericsson's you will love this, however it is not as advanced as the others currently on sale, the camera is only 2mega pixel and there is no caller ID function and the slider has no significance as with other slider phones, if you close it, it will stay on the same menu instead of clearing back to the home screen.
if you txt a lot you will find that the keys will crack in half
The phone itself is very good, sound quality is excellent from such a cheap phone, great for music, however I have discovered a design floor, if you txt a lot you will find that the keys will crack in half. I know of 5 other friends who have had this problem and I have seen two different types of the same model, on the other type the keypad was slighly different, so I guess Sony has sorted the problem, otherwise I would recommend this phone

Mic fault 4 months after purchase
I love my phone but I've only had it for 4 months and its started to play up .. its only one thing .. the mic isnt working so no one can hear me talk on the phone.
This is quite annoying as it only happened last night and usually Sony Ericsson are quite good phones so I wasnt expecting to find any faults in less than 6 months.
I got it for my birthday and now as its Christmas time do not have money to buy a new phone ... if there is any way of getting this fixed can someone please reply to this and let me know please.
Looks good but build quality lacking
The first problem with this phone is that the front facia cover can easily be knocked breaking its clipping that holds it properly on the phone, also the bottom mic part comes loose very quickly, the keypad buttons also crack very quickly.
I think its a nice phone but been done so cheaply. Also the screen is going dodgy and getting black lines, as well as music automatically changing, I know about 7 people who have reported the same problems with this phone, very disappointed in Sony Ericsson.
turns off automatically when I use the camera, very random
I have had the phone for less than 12 months, about 2 months ago I used my camera (not for the first time) and the phone turned off, every since it turns off automatically when I use the camera, very random.
Also when I plug my phone into the computer (to transfer images, music and other files) only 47/198 images upload... all the others do not show up, which again is very poor.
This only started happening to me about 5 months ago and it's not good as it means I cant back up any of my files.
Overall the phone cant be good can it, if it breaks after 6 months, or perhaps my handset is faulty.

I have it in white, it looks cool and is slimline
I have had this phone for about a year, I am still very happy with it, I have it in white, it looks cool and is slimline.
The memory is really good, I have about 100+ songs on there, the only thing with this phone is the buttons. My buttons have cracked and so have my two mates, I can still text and have no problems but I hear the buttons do tend to crack on these phones.
stores a large amount of music and images
The phone is great, it stores a large amount of music and images. The only negative thing about it is I can no longer put my files on my computer, it doesn't allow me to (it used to, up until about two months ago). But, the phone is good and I would recommend it.
The only reason I wouldn't buy it again is because, I like to change my mobile phones every year. This month I am looking to buy a Nokia N810.
The Walkman utility is great and there is plenty of room for songs and videos
I found this phone flashy, but easy to use. My friends were jealous of its looks. I am on a contract and even though newer models were available I liked this phone so much I have kept this make.
The Walkman utility is great and there is plenty of room for songs and videos. The bluetooth is good and overall this phone is great. Highly recommended.

Bought the phone in February and has since been replaced 4 times
This is the worst Ericsson phone I have bought. Asked at the time of purchase if there were any known faults with the phone was told no. This must have been a mistake. Bought the phone in February and has since been replaced 4 times.
Wasnt reading sim card, kept switching off, didnt change song when it was shaken even after pressing the correct buttons. And the buttons are cracking. Onto the 4th one now and the buttons are cracking again. This phone has put me off Ericssons.
cannot change the lights at the side unless you change the theme
I absolutely love this phone but now its broken, I think something pressed down on the screen so the protector screen touched the plasma behind, I still use it though because I love it so much. I actually think it is repairing itself because the big black lines that were going down the screen are getting smaller, the place where you can see it was pushed because it was a circle is a bit smaller and its clearer so you can see things better.
The only problem I have with the phone is you cannot change the lights at the side unless you change the theme and then there isn't a lot of choice and when you go on to Walkman it goes back on to green, I have it set as blue, and you have to refresh the theme, you can change the lights for when somebody calls you though which is good. Love it.
would recommend this phone to others and it is reasonably priced
My only request when purchasing a new phone is that it has plenty of memory to hold my music. As the Sony Ericsson Walkman phones are designed for this purpose I thought I would give it a try.
Overall the phone is stylish and good to look at but I found the buttons a pain as they are quite small and I have long nails. The phone has the new shake function to change tracks which is great but you can look a bit foolish on the street shaking your phone.
Good content on the phone and it has a decent size memory and it also comes with a memory card for extra space. I would recommend this phone to others and it is reasonably priced.

As with all W series handsets the music quality is exceptionally good
This Sony Ericsson model though high on design (has a glamorous look) and reasonable on features is not too usable. As with all W series handsets the music quality is exceptionally good. The only downside is probably the keypad which has a tendency to come off. It calls for a delicate use. Overall its a decent value for money but there are definitely better handsets available for the same feature and price.
phone looks good the sound is brilliant
Really good phone looks good the sound is brilliant, very loud so you never miss a call, you can download loads of ringtones and store plenty in phone, good games also stored easily.
To use its childs play, camera works just as good as a digital one so takes excellent pictures and you can store them as well, overall well worth its money.
appealing colours and the MP3 changes songs with a flick of the wrist
Aimed at the school age market, this phone is perfect for a teenager thats impressed by great graphics and gimics. The phone comes in an appealing range of colours and the MP3 changes songs with a flick of the wrist, great phone, bit pricey but worth it.

I just love the design, it is so cute
I just love the design, it is so cute. Also it's very slim and fits in my pocked easily. The shake control is brilliant. The games that are on there are very good. Especially the Sims. I also like the colour lights at the side of the phone. Overall it is just lush.
very good phone, easy to work and smart looking
It is a very good phone and easy to work and a smart looking phone, I will always buy Sony Ericsson, my husband has just bought one and he says the same as he has always had Nokia and he will never buy one of them again, he is made up with the Walkman it can store hundreds of songs.
really easy to use and it looks attractive
This Sony Ericsson mobile phone is really easy to use and it looks attractive. You can get it in other colors as well which is great. It has the shake mode (shake the phone to change he music track), which is ok, however I do not use the shake mode as it looks strange shaking a mobile phone while walking down the street.

Walkman is handy and saves me carrying an MP3 around
A very good and modern looking phone, with many desirable features, easy to use and clear labelling.
The lights on the side of the phone are interesting and cool when you receive a call, and there is a range of folours to choose from to suit your mood or style.
The keys could be larger but most Sony Ericcson phones I have seen tend to have smaller keys. Not always easy to hear when on the phone, as you have to hold the device at a certain angle to hear clearly.
Overall, I really like the phone and the features are really unique. The Walkman is handy and saves me carrying an MP3 around.
second Sony Ericsson phone I have had, I am very pleased with it
This is the second Sony Ericsson phone I have had and on the whole I am very pleased with it. I particularly enjoy the Walkman feature and feel this offers good sound quality. On the minus side the key pad can become 'unlocked' if you do not take care - I have found it requires a pouch to stop this happening. The phone is easy to use and I would recommend it.
Last week my back and call button started acting up
I haven't had any problems with this phone, that is until last week. Last week my back and call button started acting up, then it stopped working all together, which meant anytime I went into the menu the only way for me to get out of it was to turn my phone off. Cingular replaced my phone but sent me a phone that I can't hear unless I have it on speaker phone or am using the headset, Very Very aggravating!

An excellent all rounder
Love this phone, the camera is great, nice and easy to use. An excellent all rounder, the phone has a great deal of memory and has excellent sound for playing music. Bluetooth is easy to use. Good visuals and easy to use for videos and playback.
The W850i from Ericsson is very unique and easy to use
I absolutely love the design of this phone, its very unique and easy to use. The phone includes all the features you would expect of any phone, for example camera, games etc, but with lots of extras.
The phone even includes a fitness feature, again making this mobile phone quite unique. Its easy to text on which is what I mainly use the phone for and is easy to navigate around to find the various different features.
Whats the point in paying to get it fixed a fourth time around
This is the worst mobile phone I have ever had, I had it and within a month it had to go into repair due to cracked buttons and I had to pay to get it fixed.
Then it had to go back in due to speaker problems, I had to pay for that, then it had to go back in due to the bluetooth and guess what I have had to pay for that.
This time around the screen has snuffed up but I thought to myself whats the point in paying to get it fixed the fourth time around? I know what I'll just throw it away, whats the point?

Has a fitness programme on it and a pedometer
This phone is brilliant for women, it has a fitness programme on it and a pedometer. Its also stylish and easy to use, comes in a range of colours.
Only one problem is that the numbers on the keypad may come off but it can be easily fixed because all Sony phones come with 2yrs warranty
Phone repaired 3 times and still the buttons break and fall off!
I'm having a nightmare with this handset at the moment, although it has really good features such as the Walkman music centre, step counter for my fitness, video and picture messaging, none of this is any good if the buttons keep breaking and falling off. I have had this phone repaired 3 times and still the buttons break and fall off which makes it difficult to press the buttons needed to text and play music.
After six months the speaker has started to play up
My number pads have all split within a month of getting the phone and now after six months the speaker has started to play up. When anyone rings me it is hit and miss whether they can hear me, I have to wiggle the phone around to get the speaker to work. Although it does look good it is not the best phone I have had.

Great, features and everything are excellent
This phone would be great, features and everything are excellent but it doesnt hold its charge, I have to charge the phone every day, (but I guess this could be resolved with a new battery?) I love the Walkman even though the downloads can only be used for the Walkman and not for ringtones, but that might justbe the service provider.
One major problem - the cracking keys
I bought this phone as a present for my girlfriend, the functionality of the phone is great, however there is one major problem - the cracking keys.
Believe it - this is a real problem. The first time it happened, the phone was sent back with a promise of better keys. It took about a month to come back, and now the same thing has happened again, the phone is now back with provider.
The best mobile phone I have ever had
I spent £200 on this phone, which is a first for me, and it is the best mobile phone I have ever had. Its user friendly, great battery life, it even has a personal trainer within the features!!!!! I much prefer the limited edition blue, which is more expensive, but in the 10 months I've had this phone, I've not seen anyone else with one. Fantastic phone

My buttons have been fine - best phone I have had
This phone is the best phone I've purchased.
I read reviews saying that the keys broke easily however mine seem to be fine. The only problem is that when you record a video and zoom in, you can hear the sound of the buttons being pressed to zoom in.
The camera quality and the memory is excellent.
It also has features like a step counter which is useful if you want to find out how many steps you've taken.
It's easy to text on and the style is of the phone attractive.
I will always want a walkman phone now - love it
I absolutly love this phone I have always had Sony Ericssons and I love the walkman phones. The ring tones are so much louder and clearer.
I think noe I have had a walkman phone that I will always want a walkman phone.
Also it is not too hard to use. It is quite simple to use so anybody should be fine with it.
I have the white version which I also think is really trendy!
I am more than happy with it
This phone looks modern and stylish everything you would expect from a company like Sony Ericcson. Its slim, light , user friendly and has a large colourful screen. The camera is excellent, ive taken some really good quality shots .Unfortunately on the down side it feels quite delicate, and the keypad is smaller than some phones and takes some getting use too. The other problem i have had is with the charger, it again has two very fine pins which plug into the phone and on the first recharge broke and my supplier had to replace it. However although its not as robust as some phones im more than happy with it.

Plagued with faults
I bought this phone for my daughter and this is the third one she has had, the first we couldn't get the back off (neither could the staff), the 2nd the buttons cracked and the third the buttons have nearly all cracked, one has fallen off, another button at the top left of the phone is hanging on by a piece of plastic.
I'm currently in a battle with Orange who say it is over the 28 day guarantee and it is up to Sony Ericson, i was 4 days over the 28 day guarantee they give.
Orange have offered to fix it but I have said no, we have had three and they have been plagued with faults, we want our money back or a different phone.
Would I recommend this phone, NO most definetly not.
Real let down
I got this fone as a xmas present, but my buttons have already cracked and a number of them have stopped working so is now hard 2 use.
I really wouldn't recommend this fone 2 anyone as i've only had it for just under 4 months and already looking 2 buy a new one.
This is a real let down for Sony Ericsson.
Its really nifty
The w580i mobile is a great phone from Sony Ericsson.
I just got one as a slightly early Christmas present as I needed a new phone as I lost my previous one.
The w580 has a great feature on it where you can get a random track by shaking it! :)
Its really nifty.
