Sony Ericsson K770i Reviews

The Sony Ericsson K770i is a stylish 3G mobile phone. The K770i comes with a beautifully designed keypad which is easy to use and adds to the design of the handset. The phone has an autofocus 3.2 megapixel camera, Bluetooth, FM radio, TrackID music service, a Memory card slot, video record, USB and much more. It has a 1.9 inch colour display with a screen resolution of 320x240 pixels. The handset is available in alternative colours.

I really enjoyed having this phone
I loved this phone it was brilliant. Unfortunately after a while the camera quality went down a bit, and even after having it for a year I still could not work out how to zoom in on photos before taking them.
But overall I really enjoyed having this phone and the only reason I got a new one was because I felt the need for a change (I have a habit of changing them quite often).
Also you need a memory card because without one you wont be able to put anything on your phone.
I am still very happy with its performance
I have had this phone a little over a year now, and I am still very happy with its performance. It has an excellent 3.2mp camera, very easy to use internet and file storage systems, is a great all rounder.
It has two prominant flaws, which may only be my phone but are worth remembering. Firstly, when using internet orientated applications like Opera Mini, it has a tendency to freeze up until the battery is removed. Secondly the build quality of the case is good but not great, especially if you text alot you will probably end up searching for a new case.
One tip, the non original cases for this are terrible so definitely pay the extra!
the battery life is also very good, a very reliable handset
It is a good phone for entertainment and isn't too complex. I would reccomend this phone for anyone who enjoys listening to music on their phone and enjoys playing games as the battery life is also very good. I would say it is one of the best and most reliable phone I've had.
one of the best-value phones out there
This is my second Sony Ericsson phone (my first being the K700i) and it satisfied and exceeded my expectations in every way. I got it 6 months ago for £8.50 a month on contract and it's available now for around £69 on pay as you go, so you could call it a budget model.
However this would belie the quality of the features and reliability of the phone. Let's start with the look and feel of the handset. This is a slim and lightweight model so won't weigh your pockets down, and it fits neatly whether held with one or both hands. The keypad is very nicely designed and is perfectly responsive, while the D-pad is probably the best on any Sony phone as it's so easy to use. The mini shortcut keys give quick access to the features you'll use most often, and there is scope to add shortcuts of your own as well.
A sliding embedded strip on the back of the phone serves the dual function of protecting the camera and activating it (though it is possible to deactivate it without sliding it shut). A tiny embedded button at the top is used to turn the phone on and off and also switch between various profiles. Although cheaply made, the handset is quite sturdy overall and mine remains in good condition after several months of use.
Moving on to the interface, and the colourful menu is everything you'd expect and all works fine. Writing text messages is a breeze once you become accustomed to the T9 writing mode, and you have the option to switch between several European languages. Adding new words to the dictionary couldn't be easier, and it's just as easy to delete any you add by mistake. There is seemingly storage space for several hundred messages.
Surfing the internet is a generally a smooth experience with the default browser, though for large web pages it's far better to use Opera Mini (which works like a dream on this phone). The zoom option on the standard browser should be avoided, as this sometimes leads to an error when opening pages. Apart from that, it's very good. Making calls is easy and you can turn on the speakerphone before the call is answered, plus the call quality seems perfectly fine.
A secondary camera in front means 2-way video calling is possible. One thing I'd recommend against is using this phone on the 3 network, as their signal seems less reliable on this model to me for some reason. The other UK networks work fine. What about the other features I hear you ask?
Being a CyberShot (tm) phone an inspection of the camera is obligatory, a 3.2 megapixel one in this case. The shots it takes look perfectly acceptable under normal conditions with plenty of clarity and colour, and there is a night mode and LED flash to help you cope with poorly lit conditions (the latter doubles as a torch). Photos from this phone won't stand up to close scrutiny when compared to a dedicated digital camera, but they're great for an inexpensive multi-purpose device such as this. The music player is of a high standard for a cheap phone, and you get the feeling that the Walkman (tm) label could just as easily have been applied to this product. The speaker is perfectly positioned at the back of the handset to achieve the best possible acoustic effect as you hold the phone in your hand.
Other notable features include a voice recorder, calculator, calendar, a multi-event alarm that can be set to recur on set days of the week, a stopwatch and timer, and a flight mode for offline use. To sum up, this is one of the best-value phones out there, intuitive and a triumph of design.

still a great phone to own with a 3.2mp camera
This phone has been around for some time and it still is now a great phone to own with a 3.2mp camera and a good screen for viewing videos. However the only fault in my opinion is the performance when watching youtube videos using WAP. Other than that It is a great phone to own.
an excellent all rounder
This phone is an excellent all rounder as in price, looks, accessories, colour and features including the cybershot 3.2 camera. Ideal first phone, easy to use in every way. Problem free, internet options, music, photos all easy to use and comes on a variety of networks for best price deals.
easy to use and stylish, the keypad is ideal for texting
The phone is lightweight, easy to use and stylish, the keypad is ideal for texting, which is incredibly easy. The screen is just the right size, but the camera could be improved upon, although its functions are useful. The only problem are the buttons on the side can be activated by accident when holding the phone.

has lasted really well and I really like it
I have had this phone for a year, it was given to me as a gift. It has lasted really well and I really like it. It has skype and msn and is on the 3 network on pay as you go so I get lots of free minutes and texts. The camera is good and has a good flash on it and is very easy to use. Overall a very good phone.
a great range of features, but is also easy to use
I love this phone, it has a great range of features, but is also easy to use. The camera is fantastic, takes great pictures, and it also has video capability. It's got a really nifty 'go back' button, which I haven't seen on other phones.
It's design is slim and light weight, but still durable (I've dropped it a few times so I can definitely say that!) looks great too, mines purple and I'm always getting compliments on it's look! Battery life is good. Can't really think of any bad points! Really would recommend this phone!
Only gripe is the memory is not assesable without taking the back cover off
Stylish phone, always had confidence with Sony Ericsson up there with the best. Its a 3G phone and viewing is clear. Good camera that automatically switches on when lens cover is slid open. Texting is good and I'm a male with not so petite fingers,no probs at all.
Only gripe is the memory card is not assesable without taking the back cover off. Colour is brown, not sure if they do any other colours. Body of phone has curved edges feels comfortable when texting. Got mine via Virgin Mobile, great customer service if you have any niggly probs. Go for it.

wanted a phone that was sleek, modern and easy to use
This seemed initially to be the perfect phone for me. I have not been swept away by touch screen phones and applications galore and wanted a phone that was sleek, modern and easy to use.I certainly got it from the K770i.
Big buttons, loads of features, decent camera and (as every with Sony) a good quality MP3 player built in. I have epxerienced a few problems with the battery, which does not hold charge as well as some phones I have had, and have had to send it back for repair once in the last 9 months. Aside from that though, this phone is tip top.
I would certainly recommend it to anyone not in love with the iPhone era.
simple and easy to use with everything I needed on it
Really enjoyed going to this Sony Ericsson after using a Motorola, found it simple and easy to use with everything I needed on it. Not the latest or best mobile phone out there but it does the job and has everything I need on it. Even dropped it a few times and no damage to it yet.
a hard wearing phone and can take a knock
Good phone overall, I work on building sites and was suprised it's lasted a year, it's a hard wearing phone and can take a knock but still looks nice for a hard wearing phone. It has all the handy tools like a calculator, calender and a small light for the camera or just if you quickly need a light to look for something. The camera and video are quite good aswell and overall easy to use would definitely recommend it.

Enjoyed using this phone the past 18 months
I've enjoyed using the K770i a lot over the past 18 months - The camera is good (for a phone - 3MP and autofocus is enough for me) and the battery life quite acceptable (mine will last 5-6 days with a few texts per day and short calls).
The screen is slightly small considering the phone's width, but it is QVGA resolution so it looks sharp.
Dimensions are quite good too - slim, but not too slim, and the rounded back feels good in the hand and in a jeans pocket.
The active camera cover is very handy - as is the ability to use the camera's LED as a torch.
One thing to note however is that after a year of use the shiny coating on the keys has started to wear off so it's looking a bit tatty. A few of the keys are also less responsive than they once were (they've become a little sticky). However this doesn't cause me a problem.
It may be a reminder though that this is a mid-range phone and they don't really build them to last more than the length of an average phone contract.
For comparison I'd had this phone for nearly a year when my contract renewed. I chose a Nokia 6220 as an upgrade, but it went on ebay after about a week. The Nokia housing was a cheap, creaky, plastic toy compared to this Sony Ericsson. And it's battery life was 2 days tops. Perhaps that model is a bad example of a Nokia, but I'll be using this Sony Ericsson for quite a while longer.
Overall, if you want a no nonsense phone with a usable camera, this one comes recommended - just don't expect it to stay looking perfect forever.
probably most suitable for a very moderate user
I purchased this as it was the most similar phone I could find to the K880i I'd previously had. The camera is not as good quality as the K800i, although megapixels are the same. I've been quite disappointed with the camera, and would not recommend buying this specifically for the camera quality.
The design is simple and sleek, and not bulky. The brown colour sets it aside from other phones on the market. The screen is not particularly large but the display is bright and colours are good.
The power button is quite fiddly, so not good for big hands. It is also tricky to remove the sim card.
Battery life has been pretty good - much better than any other Sony Ericsson I have ever owned. My phone is 16 months old and battery still lasts well. It has recently lasted five days without recharging with moderate use (a few phonecalls and texts).
The keys started to wear out after 9 months, so not reliable for those who do a lot of texting. My "3" button barely works anymore. This isn't very good if you are on a contract for 18 months, and half the time the phone doesn't work properly.
There also seem to be some problems with the memory card - it often doesn't recognise that I have a memory card in the phone, so I have to switch it on and off until I can view anything saved on the memory card.
The navigation around the menu is quite straightforward and easy to get to grips with. It is similar to other Sony Ericssons, particularly K800i. I've still not worked out how to divert calls to voicemail though!
Web access is pretty poor - the screen is small and web pages are difficult to read. I access internet via T-Mobile and it is very hard and slow to navigate via this phone.
Other features include mp3 and radio. The radio is good, although you have to use the Sony Ericsson headphones rather than standard ones, which I have found annoying because the earpieces are too big and make my ears sore.
Overall, this is a simple, straightfoward and attractive phone which is probably most suitable for a very moderate user who wants a phone simply to make calls and text, and is not particularly interested in using the media features.
Personally, I send a lot of text messages and want a phone to have a good camera, so this has not suited my needs at all and I am looking forward to upgrading soon.
have no regrets whatsoever over buying the phone
A fantastic phone. It's easy to use and has a pretty good camera with it. It doesn't however have a zoom feature for the camera, only for the video, which I feel is a minor flaw.
Also, it cannot cope with an excessive number of texts being held in the inbox as it tends to freeze on the odd occassion if there are, say, 150+ texts on the phone, but this has not happened when the phone has a lower number of texts.
Overall though, I have no regrets whatsoever over buying the phone and have recommended it to friends.

nice to handle with it's curved edges, and texting is a dream
Got this phone on Virgin Network. Cannot fault the phone or the network (Good Reception and Signal) have always rated Sony's.
This is stylish and nice to handle with it's curved edges, and texting is a dream. It's a 3G and good on internet. It's a steal with the 30pence a day browsing with Virgin. Has more than enough features for the average person,I believe its expandable up to 2GB. So that gives you around 500 songs to listen to, and the sound is really good both on the music player and radio.
Menu's are self explanatory and easy to follow, only used the manual once and that was to find out how to open the back to install the battery, my only gripe is that the memory card cannot be accessed externally.
The phone is also cyber-shot and has a slide cover on the camera lens, it's funky when the slide is opened the phone keys light up blue, right little poser.
It offers the most features for the money
This is the best phone I have owned to date, to the point that when it was stolen I brought another.
It offers the most features for the money, and both of mine have been of high quality, never frozen or faulted in anyway, and has survived being dropped. I have large fingers and find the keypad superb, and the hand set intuitive and easy to navigate, the camera takes really nice sharp photo's.
The only faults are that the video capture is quite poor quality compared to the fab photo's, and you can only use the headphones supplied, but these are great so only a minor point, all in all, the best phone I've found to date.
the slidy lens cover slides open too easily
great camera, but the slidy lens cover slides open too easily, and sometimes thinks it has been shut whilst it's still open, and this causes the camera application to shutdown, very annoying. Also the call answer/reject buttons are too sensitive and the phone sometimes answers/hangs up on itself - also very annoying. Otherwise good phone.

overall a good cheap durable cameraphone
Great little phone from Sony Ericcson, easy to text, big keys, clear screen and excellent Cybershot camera, good video camera too. On off switch a bit fiddly and battery life not perfect, but overall a good cheap durable cameraphone and if you can a silver or purple one they look fantastic.
Great for most users unless your a complete techno buff
Good little phone, camera is a bit slow, unless used on cybershot mode. Great for most users unless your a complete techno buff in which case it wouldnt be suitable. Comes in a choice of colours, easy to navigate, like the ringtones and lightweight fits in your pocket.
mainly for calling and texting and this meets my requirements comfortably
Nice looking, easy to use handset. I had another Sony Ericsson before and like it so decided to get another and I was not disappointed.
Nice clear display, excellent camera pictures and video is good. I'm not a power user, just use it mainly for calling and texting and this meets my requirements comfortably. Battery life is an improvement on my previous handsets.

feels like a phone rather than a camera with a phone added to it
I love this phone, it's so easy to use and it actually feels like a phone rather than a camera with a phone added to it. It's got lots of features on it though if you like to play games, take photos/videos etc. Good phone if you are not too bothered about all the extras.
Pretty easy to use interface, navigation is reasonably straightforward
Slim, sleek mobile which is ideal for the more adult user. Pretty easy to use interface, navigation is reasonably straightforward, has all the standard features of a modern phone and 2.1 Mega Pixel Camera.
One fault though - despite the key lock being on, I have found it at times with the browser online which obviously costs me money.
slim, lightweight design that means it is easy to carry around
The phone looks good and is very easy to operate. The menu system is good. It has a slim, lightweight design that means it is easy to carry around.
This phone has 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus and a zoom. Negative points are that the battery life is only about one day and the keys can be a little fiddly especially when texting.

having the antenna on the headphones isnt a good idea
I've had this phone for about 10 months and it still goes alright. It's your basic cheap phone so I didnt expect much from it, as other more expensive phones I have had have died early from being dropped or easily broken.
The downsides it has is that I find it hard to hear people talking to me if I am in a relatively loud room, not a really loud building site but just if the tv is on too loud .
It doesnt have many features, the games arent great but they pass the time on the tube, the radio stopped working after about two weeks for some reason, having the antenna on the headphones isnt a good idea as cheap headphones brake easy.
So mostly all I use it for is texting, think I might buy a new phone soon.
all in all a well thought out, well designed phone
Lots of features, looks good, durable, easy to use, fast. Easy to text. This is a problem I had with my last phone so much happier now. The camera is 3.2 megapixels with flash included. However no zoom unfortunately. But all in all a well thought out, well designed phone.
after 12 months the joystick in the middle has broken
Not great, as after 12 months the joystick in the middle has broken and I can no longer text. The phone was brilliant at the beginning, but over time the back section keeps falling off in bag, which loosens the battery and means that the phone keeps going off when it is my bag.

camera isn't as good as it could be
This is a nice light phone, it has a good loud alarm and has very good internet access. The downside is the camera isn't as good as it could be, in comparison to other Sony Ericsson phones, it's quality is poorer. It has a good internal memory and the buttons are sturdy and nicely designed.
easy to operate and the quality of photographs is impressive
This is an easy to use, reliable phone with good features. The camera has lots of additional features and settings which are easy to operate and the quality of photographs is impressive. The design of the phone looks great. The screen is also a very good size so it is easier to read.
very impressed with this phone and would recommend it
This is my third Sony Ericsson phone and I really like it. It retains the same user friendly interface that I liked with my old K700i and K750i but offers a better camera and a sleek design. It is easy to use, nice looking and has great features - most notably the 3.2MP camera.
Just two criticisms in 1 year of owning this phone. The "paint" has now scratched off many of the keys and the phone is starting to look like it has seen better days and my phone recently reset itself for no obvious reason - wiping all of my games, ringtone and pictures permanently.
But overall, I've been very impressed with this phone and would recommend it.

very annoying when using on speakerphone
Although the phone is quite easy to use it has flaws with a very weak speaker that fades in and out and is very annoying when using on speakerphone. The battery life is also much shorter than I was led to believe in the description. Overall though the phone functions reasonably well and most the features are easily obtainable.
pictures are sometimes quite blurry, also the video camera is not that good
I think this phone is very easy to use, but the camera is quite difficult and the pictures are sometimes quite blurry, also the video camera is not that good, other than that the rest of the phone is very good quality, had mine for 4 months and never had any problems.
very good camera which is one of my main priorities
Easy to use robust phone, very good camera which is one of my main priorities. Good memory storage on the phone enabling me to store quite a lot of music tracks, photos and videos. Quite slim and the keypad is easy to use. It is also capable of video calling with a very discreet camera at the front of the phone. Overall the phone is compact and user friendly.

candy bar design is not very chic, but it serves its purpose
This phone is very well designed and I love the user interface. It is not as fancy as some of the new phones and the candy bar design is not very chic, but it serves its purpose and in my opinion practicality always outweighs fashion.
This is a great phone like all Sony Ericsson's but if I had the choice today I would now choose one of the newer phones with the improved features.
is my 4th Sony Ericsson and yet again I love it
I find all Sony Ericsson phones are great, none of them have ever let me down yet. This is my 4th and yet again I love it.
I have it in the purple colour and it is so pretty, the brown one is also nice. Simple and fast to use with a great camera, yet to have any problems and it its 4 months old.
Holds loads of data on the phone and also comes with a memory card, would defo recommend.
fairly basic, but easy to use and functional, stylish too
Good phone for practical use, fairly basic, but easy to use and functional. Quite a nice size. Only concern I have had is the wear of the paintwork. Otherwise I have been really happy with my phone. Have had no other problems, its been reliable and quite stylish too.

phone looks great, and is a pleasure to use
This is a great phone and if I lost or broke mine tomorrow I wouldn't even consider any other models before buying another K770i to replace it. I originally chose it as I have slight dexterity problems and the keys looked large enough for me to use without any trouble, and I haven't been disappointed.
It's very easy to use, not at all fiddly, and the thin handset fits very nicely into a pocket without feeling bulky. Picture and sound quality are both high and I've been very happy with all the features.
I'm not bothered about having the newest and best features around so don't have much idea how the K770i compares to other handsets out there in that respect.
I can only say that it's more than good enough for me. The only thing I'd change is that the shiny coating on the number keys doesn't last long. I've had mine about 8 months and there's a lot of white plastic showing already, and I'm a pretty careful user. Other than that the phone looks great, and is a pleasure to use.
perfectly good, lightweight, affordable 3.2 megapixel mobile phone
It's pretty cool, the colour is beautiful and the features work well. The only gripe is like a lot of Sony Ericssons the signal isn't great (network?). Oh and the shortcut key annoys me. But it's a perfectly good, lightweight, affordable 3.2 megapixel phone. The buttons are smooth, the design is sweet, just needs a bit more memory.
Wasnt sure what to expect, but very happy
I hadn't seen the phone or held it before purchasing so wasn't really sure what to be expect.
I was pretty pleased however with what I got, the phone only cost me £15.00 on a new 18 month contract (renewal) with Vodafone - after bargaining for a while on the phone I managed to get it for that price on a £25 per month contract, (phone is normally £100 on that).
The camera is pretty reasonable, but prints are a bit pixelated past 6"x4" so not the best there is. Sound quality is great and the unlimited music download program that comes with the phone (£1.99 per week) was rather good too.
Not a bad phone all round. Can't really find any faults.

Camera quality is great, shutter speed could be improved though
The K770i has a very slim, sleek design which means it's comfortable to hold and fits neatly in your pocket.
The 3.2 megapixel cybershot camera is quite good quality for a camera phone. The camera itself doesn't have as many features as the previous model but is still a good quality camera. The only problem I have is that because the camera is so light, I find it difficult to hold the phone still enough to take a picture, thus resulting in blurred shots. Also the shutter speed is quite slow so you would have to adjust the settings to say 'burst' mode (which takes 4 pictures simultaniously) when capturing moving objects.
The menus are easy to use and it's easy to set up. On your first use you can use the setup wizard which goes through the basic setup e.g.setting time and date, wallpapers, ringtones etc. All in all I think this is a good all rounder.
Very good phone which has improved the flaws of it's predecessors
Stylish slim phone with an excellent camera and a decent amount of memory, just like the K800i but slimmer and lighter. Also it has done away with the toggle stick which was prone to malfunctioning after a while and replaced it with a different button system which is much better. Overall a very good phone which has improved the flaws of it's predecessors.
Overall an excellent camera phone
I have owned the K770i from Sony for 2 months so still getting used to it as I have always had Nokia's prior to this.
Phone fits in hand nicely and has all the features you would expect. Excellent battery life both standby and talk time. Excellent picture quality from a 3.2 mega pixel camera.
Centre joystick is a huge improvement on the previous model which my son owns and has proved problematic but not on this phone. Good size screen which is easy to see and read. Marked down as when on hands free you cannot hear everything through the hands free kit ie tones on dialing a number but this may be me not understanding its settings correctly.
Could also do with auto keypad lock after set time rather than having to remember to lock the keypad when putting it in your pocket as this can prove expensive should you go browsing or dial a number without knowing it.
Overall an excellent camera phone with very good features and the best battery life I have ever had from a mobile phone, well worth getting!
