Sony Ericsson Elm Reviews

Made from Eco friendly materials, the Sony Ericsson Elm is part of the expanding family of Greenheart devices, handsets that are designed to be friendlier to the environment whilst still offering the best in modern mobile technology. The candybar style Elm offers a 5.0 Megapixel camera with video recording facility, and captured images can be geotagged thanks to the built in GPS support. Wisepilot navigation software is pre-installed on the phone, and other features include media player, quick access to social networking sites and a built in picture editor, amongst others. The Elm is HD voice ready, and supports noise cancellation with a dedicated microphone. The splash resistant Elm is finished with waterborne and will be available in Metal Black and Pearly Rose colour variants.
The 5 megapixel camera does its job nicely
This is a really nice phone. It is a natural successor to the k and w series phones, with a familiar interface and with all the features in a more compact body. The 5 megapixel camera does its job nicely, and the switch from Sony's proprietary memory cards to the more universally compatible micro SD is welcome.
There have been a few changes to the interface, some more welcome than others - threading text messages into conversations is, on the whole, a better way to manage your messages. However it is not without its annoyances - you have to actually open a message to clear the "new message" reminder, even though with short messages you car read them in their entireity just from the notification.
It's a pain to have to go back into the menu to re-open the message after clearing the notification. Also, the conversation interface seems to require one click too many to actually send a message. Sometimes I have completed messages sitting there unsent for ages because I thought I clicked the final send command but I hadn't.
My biggest gripe though, is the facebook and twitter button splashed all over the place. It is incredibly annoying if you aren't interested in facebook and twitter, and it can cost you money since you are never more than about a click away from accidentally going online and incurring data charges. I contacted SE about getting rid of this branding and they showed me how to completely wipe the phone. It didn't get rid of the facebook and twitter, and the backup facility failed to restore my calendar.
These gripes aside though, it's a great phone, probably one of the best I have ever owned.
