Samsung S8300 Tocco Ultra Reviews

The Samsung S8300 Tocco Ultra is a stylish 3G handset. It has a smooth slide opening mechanism to access the keypad. The touch colour screen is 2.8 Inches in size which provides a high quality viewing experience. It's main feature is the 8 megapixel camera with a dual LED flash. The S8300 also comes with GPS, video recorder, FM radio, music player, internet browser, video calling and 80MB of internal memory.

the keypad is by far the better function of this phone
The joint function of a touch screen and keypad is in essence good as it means that users who prefer a keypad but the look of a touch screen have the best of both worlds. However sometimes the touch screen is slow to respond and fast texting is hindered because of this.
For texting, the keypad is by far the better function of this phone, and sometimes it is irritable when you are looking at photos and they begin to slide down the screen - making it difficult to hand the phone to anyone to show off your newly taken photos.
In saying that, the camera quality is good (not so good when zooming) but picture quality is excellent. I took some photos of scenery and had them blown up and framed - you would never be able to tell it was taken from a camera phone!
One thing to note is the software provided to upload photos and videos etc onto PC/Laptop runs quite slow - It is super easy to use and extremely user friendly. Only problem I have with it is that it can be slow at times.
Internet access is good, albeit a little slow at times, however considering it is not an iPhone or similar I was quite pleased with it.
Games are good however with some games although this phone has a touchscreen, there are not touch screen games you can play on it which is disappointing. Some of the games on the phone could benefit from using a touch screen keypad.
All in all the phone is good and smack bang in the middle of those who are sceptical of touch screens and don't want to give up a keypad.
It is difficult to combine the two and as a result there are some positive and negative impacts for this phone - but in general a good all rounder.
The internet is very hard to use
I liked the idea of the Tocco Ultra simply because there is a keypad but it is hidden. I was happy with the design but find the battery cover very hard to get off and the charger cover very flimsy.
The features on the Tocco never impressed me, it is now a very annoying phone and needs alot of patience. When receiving a message you have to use the touch screen to access it, half the time when pressing "open" the box just moves around!
Browsing through photos, once you open a file, if you turn the phone so the photo moves round it suddenly starts to scroll through all the photos just from feeling the movement, its very annoying and hard to stop the photos moving.
The internet is very hard to use, it would be handy if this phone come with a pen for the touch screen, you have to double click everything!
And a year later after owning the Tocco, it takes roughly 5 minutes for the phone to start charging, I put the charger in but it dosent start. It takes alot of moving the phone in different positions for it to charge, currently the phone has to be up on its side leaning on something for it to stay charging!
So overall a very annoying phone to use.
The maps and internet functions are good
This phone is my first Samsung after having used Nokia's and Sony Ericsson's for years. I will admit that it takes a bit of getting used to, especially the text message functions, but now that I have I'm pretty happy with it.
The combination of touch screen and traditional keypad is a great halfway point for people like me who like our ipod touches but aren't quite ready for a fully touch screen phone, I like to be able to push the buttons without looking!
The maps and internet functions are good, I relied on the e-mail access for weeks when the broadband went down at work recently. The design is nice, its light, compact and the screen is clear.
I love the 8 megapixel camera which takes good pictures
Good phone for overall use. This is my current phone and I love the 8 megapixel camera which takes good pictures and you can easily download to your computer. The only thing I dislike is if its in your pocket the 'fake call' button can easily be turned on so it will ring a fake call but that is a good function if you want to get away from a boring meeting!
Its my first touch screen and I would recommend it to friends, its good for downloading music. Lastly great web browsing on this phone as it has a good size screen.

You're restricted by the functions on the phone
I was quite excited about getting this as an upgrade (I loved my G600) but soon realised i'd made a bad choice.
The phone is good to look at and has good spec on paper but lacks so much. This became apparent when I used the iphone.
The camera quality is supposed to be great but I can't say I saw this in the resulting picture. You're restricted by the functions on the phone - can't personalise as much as I would like.
Got bored quite quickly and didn't feel like it was much of an advance on the G600.
The phone is also too large and weighty
This is the worst phone I have ever had! Main problem is that the mute button is in the wrong place, where you hold the phone.
The phone is also too large and weighty. The widgets are a jar and the pics are not great. I have had a few Samsungs prior so thats why I chose it but I am disappointed considering I had to get a higher price plan to get it. Cant wait to upgrade!
caters for everyone's preference.
Overall the phone is pretty easy to use. It combines both touch-screen and keypad use which means it caters for everyone's preference.
The features could be better, with phones such as the i-Pad arriving, the Tocca is becoming dated. For example, there is only an FM radio on offer and I have found it difficult to find channels.
Also the games are poor, however if you are looking for a mobile to do the basics of calling and texting then this phone is brilliant! It has a great camera, ease of use and excellent picture quality. The only downfall here is the difficulty trying to upload pictures from the phone to the PC.
Overall though I would still recommend this mobile as it has proved to be an excellent purchase for me for over 1 year now with no problems. It is stylish, has the sliding technique, an excellent camera and a keypad if you find the touch-screen to much hassle!

It boasts a 8 megapixel camera for taking great quality photos
This phone is fantastically put together. It boasts a 8 megapixel camera for taking great quality photos. I have owned this phone for about 6 months now and still love everything about it.
Have not had any problems with the internet and doesn't struggle when playing music as well as surfing the web, unlike the Nokia N95 for example which struggled doing more than one task at a time.
it's irrating and time consuming to edit a msg using the touch screen
Love my Samsung S8300 Tocco Ultra. I never used Samsung or a touch screen before. I have always been a Sony Ericsson K800i and Nokia fan. I have 2 problems though. When I silence the keypad tones the ringer also goes silent. And secondly it's irrating and time consuming to edit a msg using the touch screen. I would still recommend this phone to everyone.
Easy to use and navigate through
An excellent all round phone. Easy to use and navigate through. Lightweight and wouldn't want to change. The Samsung tocco has an excellent camera as well as a big memory for those important moments you wouldnt want to miss like parties and plays or even just one of those girls nights in.

The camera is really good and the picture quality is excellent
I have found the Tocco Ultra to be a very good phone. The camera is really good and the picture quality is excellent. That is the extra feature that is most important to me, since I don't use my phone for facebook or the net. The memory is also really good, it can store loads of pics and messages it seems.
everything on this excellent and easy to use now I've got used to it
I got this phone as an christmas present, I didnt like it at first as I didnt know how to use it and didnt think I'd get into it has I've had mostly Sony Ericsson's and LG's.
I find everything on this excellent and easy to use as I've now got used to it, the only problem I've got with it, is when I'm on the phone and I slide it down it cuts off, and I can't seem to figure out how to have a phone call with the phone slid down without cutting off.
you can do it just by doing one quick step
For all of you having issues who like to read messages while on the phone, or sending messages and such you can do it just by doing one quick step.
You can see your inbox ect while on a call all you do is assign the camera key to switch. Go to settings, than select phone settings. Next go to where it says camera key functions and assign it to switch. This allows the camera key to access other options even when on a call.
Now when your on a call just hold down the camera key and just like magic theres your messaging options.

all in all this is a great phone, with great features
I have always used Sony Ericsson but my partner bought this for me and I have found it a bit difficult to get used to but I love it now.
Touchscreen is really easy, camera is excellent, this phone has been dropped and chewed (by my nine month old), and still in great working order.
The only problem I've had is that it could use a stylus for touch screen. all in all this is a great phone, with great features, I would recommend this to anyone.
camera is ace and I love the Samsung layout
Fantastic, the camera is ace and I love the Samsung layout making it by far one of the best and easiest to navigate phones available.
The Samsung layout I feel puts it above that of Nokia, I love that this also has a keyboard as I hate touchscreen only phones but feel that this incompases the best of both worlds. Sadly though I feel that this type of phone could be coming to an end - get it while you can peeps
love the pictures sliding when you tilt the phone
Love this phone, it has everything you could want or need. Once you get used to the touchscreen for texting you won't need the keypad which slides up. I love the pictures sliding when you tilt the phone, excellent fun,.The 8mp camera takes fantastic pictures. Highly reccommend this model.

I bought it mainly for the camera - 8MP
Overall, this is a fab phone. It's my first touchscreen phone, so that has taken a little bit of getting used to, but seems fine now. There are however a couple of irritating issues with the phone, especially if you have been used to other Samsung handsets.
It doesn't have speed dial - not something that I personally use, but something that you may have problems with if you use your phone in handsfree mode whilst driving.
Because it has a touchscreen, they have done away with arrow keys, which is fine for the most part, except when you are texting. When you receive bluetooth files, it doesn't tell you where it has put them, which can lead to spending ages searching through every folder in your phone.
Aside from these things, it's a great phone. I bought it mainly for the camera - 8MP. If buying a phone that's new on the market is important to you and you don't fancy going down the iPhone/Blackberry route, then this phone is highly recommended, but if you don't mind buying a slightly older model, I would say, in my personal experience, that the Samsung G600 is actually more user friendly.
part-touch facility is great for those people who prefer texting on a phone pad
At first, for some reason, the battery life was terrible, around 30 minutes worth of phone calls, and you'd have to charge it again, but I've noticed that the longer I've had the phone and using it for other things as well, such playing games and listening to music, somehow the battery life has improved, now it needs to be charged roughly every 1-2 days.
I really like the quality of the phone, and the design is really nice, in my opinion. The 8.0 megapixel camera is definitely a wow factor and the part-touch facility is great for those people who prefer texting on a phone pad rather than a keyboard.
use the touchscreen if you're sober and the keypad if you're drunk
Had this phone now for about 2 months and have fell in love with it. My last 5 phones have been Samsungs and I just feel they can do no wrong.
It looks good, has fantastic features such as video editing, 8mp camera and the touchscreen or keypad (it was described to me as a drunk/sober phone - use the touchscreen if you're sober and the keypad if you're drunk).
The speed of the phone is really good compared to my old G600 - it took ages for me to scroll through the items on my memory card on that whereas the ultra is super quick.
Only have 2 complaints, the battery is pretty rubbish (but I spend practically all day on the internet), and when you're making a call and your face touches the screen it has a tendency to mute the call which is rather annoying.
Apart from that it's fantastic, the best phone I've ever had (and here was me thinking I wouldn't want to upgrade from the G600)

you also have the function buttons which slide down
This is a really good mobile phone with good features. It is very compatible if you do not really like using the touch screen, you also have the function buttons which slide down on the phone. Really good camera and holds quite a bit in the memory. I had the older Tocco but like this one better.
Not for those who make lots of calls
I've had this Phone for some time now (3 months).
Overall it's pretty good to be honest. However the battery life is appalling and I wouldn't recommend it to people who make lots of phone calls throughout the day.
The touch screen is also good, but there is some delay with it.
Nice looking though the battery life isnt the best
The Samsung Ultra Tocco phone has very nice sleek look and the colour (red) is a very nice.
It is very easy to use once you've used it a few times.
One set back is the battery life doesnt last very long and I tend to have to charge mine every other day if not every day depending on how often its used throughout the day.

Camera is very good quality and transfers to computer easily
Overall a good phone although I tend not to use the touch screen feature as it is very sensitive and quite hard to use. Text messaging using predictive text is difficult compared to other phones I have had in the past. If you change from the first word that comes up it is difficult to add punctuation! Camera is very good quality and transfers to computer easily to print.
phone itself is very quick and is very rerely any form of lag.
Love the design. Full of features and a great camera. Only downside is that it could do with a stylus since the touch screen is sometimes a bit finnicky for your hand. The phone itself is very quick and is very rerely any form of lag.
combination of touch screen/slide panel is very useful
I am very satisfied with this phone as a whole. The camera function with 8.0 megapixels is very good and the sound quality is also excellent. The combination of touch screen/slide panel is very useful.
The only downside to this is with texting. The phone likes to generate what it thinks you are trying to say which can be very annoying and takes a lot longer to text! Overall though - excellent, would recommend!

Poor battery life compared to my old D900i
I was told this phone was amazing so I went and got it on a 24 month contract, my deal is great dont get me wrong which is more than can be said about the phone.
Poor battery life compared to my old D900i which I would swap for this phone anyday. Its not all bad though, the camera is amazing, and the games are not bad too, the internet is quick so you dont have to wait around for ages.
For those who like to text while on the phone, this is not the phone for you! I hate the fact you can't text while your on the phone it drives me crazy! You can text out but cant read your inbox.
Anyway overall its not too bad although I have more negative things to say than good.
my last three phones have been Samsung but this is the best so far
Hi, my last three phones have been Samsung but this is the best so far, good photos, the colour is brilliant, the phone is so easy to use, its nice to have the keypad and the touchscreen.
I found that the battery life is not as long as some of my other phones, but because this phone has loads of features it dosent matter. Excellent I would recommend it to anyone.
this phone does have a wow factor for many people
This wonderful compact phone is stylish, useful and longlasting. It's a touch screen with large icons for ease and typing and it comes with either a cover to protect the screen or one that just leaves the screen visible.
It has an easy lock system to prevent accidents and has a very good battery life. I would say that the typing is the easiest particuarly if you have nails or large fingers and it can be frustrating. But this phone does have a wow factor for many people and it comes with all the useful applications and has very good sound.
I would say that this is more of a fashion phone, not for those who have a hectic lifestyle.

Want to like but more use more I dislike it - no thanks!
The AMOLED screen is great indoors, but try looking at it in the daylight - rubbish!!
Unlike other reviewers, I've found the Tocco Ultra phone to be slower than previous phones.
I like the feel of the phone, the design is highly attractive, but it is form over function.
Customize widgets!! no you can't, you can select/deselect "most" widgets from a list, but you can't create your own, can't link the betfair app to a widget or anything like that (yet).
Composing texts is a bit clunky as there is no back button on the keypad, so you are forced to use the touch screen, which is slower to react than the keypad.
The camera quality is excellent, no question, but I disagree with the other reviewer that it is quick. I still think there is a huge delay from click to pic. Try taking a photo with a SonyEricsson W880i for example.
I don't hate this phone, I want to like it, but the more I use it the less I like it. I tried to take it back, but I was too late.
Speed dial..my old phone = press 2 then the green button.
Tocco ultra = slide up/down to the speed dial contacts widget, drag that onto the idle space, click the picture of the person, click the phone icon. (this may be down to my lack of investigation, but then that is down to the boredom induced by trying to personalize this phone)
I've used it solidly for about 5-6 weeks, personalized it as much as I am able to (limited), entered loads of slang into the T9 dict, created photo albums etc, but none of this seems to grab me.
I don't want this review to be come across as completely negative, and I'm sure there are smarter people out there who can get more from the phone than I, but for me - no thanks.
touchscreen reacts quickly and the features are good
I am currently using this mobile phone and its better than I expected. The touchscreen reacts quickly and the features are good. Lacks wi-fi which is a disappointment and the camera is not as good as I hoped yet I still love my phone! Definitely the best touch screen phone to use if you text a lot as its very easy to text, either using the screen or the keypad. Overall is a very good phone!
brilliant clear touch screen, fantastic sound/picture quality
Good points, a brilliant clear touch screen, fantastic sound/picture quality, top quality camera, very easy to use, widget shortcuts are great.
The bad points, the phone is slow if data is stored on the phone not the memory card, no screensaver choice or speed dial option.
