it's not exciting, not clever, but as a day to day reliable phone its fine
This phone is better than the sum of its parts. Its a usable size, great battery life, I charge mine once a week and mostly good buttons and navigation. It has reasonably good looks in a no-nonsense sort of way.
For a reliable phone for outdoor sports use or in workshops its build quality and rubber trim are reassuring. The keyboard backlighting is very good indeed.
One or two buttons are on the fiddly side but they aren't the most frequently used. Some of the menu logic is more convoluted than Nokia and there isn't a great deal of choice on ringtones etc. Ringtones could be louder, but at least the onboard speaker phone is good and clear.
The display is plenty bright enough for daylight though is an old technology (not always a bad thing).
Onboard memory (NO expansion card option) is tiny, though it does have GPRS WAP access. Bluetooth too.
So it's not exciting, not clever, but as a day to day reliable phone... I give it 4/5. And I've kept it.
Be aware that the camera does not have a flash
I've owned this phone for a month or so, bought it online without having my hands on it, don't think I can live with it, for a phone that's marketed towards an active job/lifestyle, the ring volume is way too low, I keep my phone in a leg pocket and with any background noise at all I just don't hear it ring.
Also, it lacks several of the features about my previous phone (also a Samsung) that I liked.
Be aware that the camera does not have a flash, the LED that is next to the lens is purely for use as a torch, handy, but come on. Mind you, the camera's pretty poor anyway, and there's no USB to link it to a computer anyway.
I wanted a basic phone, but it's a bit too basic to be honest and that's coming from a confirmed tecno-phobe. I kept my last phone for well over 2 years, only needed a new one as sticky buttons were bugging me.
I generally choose my phones by button size - bigger the better - this one is just about ok for that.
Guess I'll have to grit my teeth and go to a shop and bore some poor assistant for an hour with all my little requirements, doh.
Great battery life! Makes a change!
It really is a release to have this phone.
I was sick of breaking my phone every six months or so and then having to bring the charger everywhere with me.
The battery life is so good on this phone that you need to charge it only every one or two weeks! It is such a release!!!
I recently purchased the Samsung M110 Solid phone which was new into Tesco. In general I am satisfied that it performs much as expected...except for one glaring silliness!
There is a currency converter application on this phone, but there is no conversion possible for either Sterling or American dollars!!
When I queried this with Samsung customer services I was informed that the conversion was intended to be useful for interchange of values within countries currently using Euros and the UK does not qualify in these terms. I suggested that this was nonsense since it could reasonably be assumed that people from these countries would visit the UK from time to time and what are they supposed to do then?
We are talking about a line of software.. why wouldn't you include Sterling? You might think that if the phone is now being sold in the UK, then an upgrade could fairly easily be made available.
