Manufactured By Nokia
Handset Overview

The Nokia N97 Mini offers a competitive alternative to the N97, with a more compact style to attract those put off by the dimensions of its big brother. All the main features are included on this device, including high speed data transfer via 3.5G Mobile Broadband, plus WiFi with UPnP support. The N97 Mini includes a 5.0 Megapixel camera, with Carl Zeiss optics and dual LED for both images and video recording. A multi format media player is included on the phone, plus a Stereo FM radio and TV Out facility. The only major downsides to the main N97 is the N97 Mini offers only 8GB internal memory as opposed to 32GB and also has a slightly smaller display due to the smaller handset dimensions.

a great little user friendly smartphone

I've had this phone for a month now and infact I am posting this add from my Nokia N97 Mini.

Its a great little phone especially for the younger generation who are all into multi tasking and into online socialising eg. Facebook and twiter.

Since I have had this phone there has been a lot of ups and only a few downs. The phone is by far one of the best phones I have had. One of the downs are because of the qwerty keyboard, the phone becomes unstable and when the keyboard is closed and you tap round the edge, the screen is a bit wobbly and shakes a little which can really get annoying at times.

Another downside is in the application area when you scroll down (not using the scroller) it jams a bit which slows down the process and it takes approximate of 7 seconds to view the last line of apps. Also when you download the facebook app from the ovi store you cannot log out which is unsecure.

Other than these minor miss understanding's by Nokia they have developed a great little user friendly smartphone device which I and a lot of other happy Nokia N97 mini owners love.

superb functionality

The Nokia N97 mini is a versatile, attractive smartphone, featuring superb functionality and a range of attractive features.

Ideal for those who cannot justify purchasing the much more expensive iPhone, the N97 mini is a very nice little package. The touchscreen is easy and responsive to use.

Nokia maps with GPS lets you know exactly where you are at all times, and has proved essential to myself on many a long journey. The Wi-Fi feature allows full internet browsing at all times. Highly recommended if you are looking for the full smartphone experience, with a surprisingly durable battery life.

The user interface is especially poor

I've got one of these puppies and hardware wise the N97 mini is good and bad. It has a great range of features, for sure.

I love that slide keyboard and the screen has good rez. My gripe is that the GPS takes forever to lock, even in the open. Actually, battery time is also bad, unless you don't use your phone and switch everything off.

Sound quality is unusually bad (when not using external earphones), it's behind every phone I've ever owned (5 of them). It's like listening down a long pipe and it also has very limited frequency range. Probably using an original Edison earpiece design.

The user interface is especially poor. It's too inconsistent and unnecessarily limiting at times, not to mention some of the bizantine menus. I also get software errors on the phone.

Overall, yes, it's a usable phone but not an especially good one. Considering all the features, sadly, it's a missed opportunity for Nokia.

I certainly would not have another.

Alas my 3 months of contentment with the phone, wasn't to last. The fault began one night when I tried to charge it after the battery went flat.

It would not charge at all and and would not switch off. The screen went white, displaying the Nokia logo! I took the handset to my local Vodafone shop to report the fault.
The phone was checked by the staff and consequently sent to the repair centre the next day.

I bought the Samsung Genio Touch and used this for the week that my Nokia was at the repair centre. So I had to part with £60, so that I would have a mobile because I didn't have a spare.

The Nokia came back a week later with the report that it was a software problem and the phone had been re loaded.
I am still not happy since the phone has come back.
Now the phone has lost some contacts on the sim and the envelope icon is constantly flashing in the top of the screen!

I have checked that my text messages and email boxes are empty and yet, this damn envelope still flashes. This icon indicates that the 'sim memory is full' But I only have 48 contacts on a sim that holds 250!!

I wanted the N97 mini from the moment I saw it advertised and I am now so disappointed with it. I certainly would not have another.

This phone would be great with a faster processor

I've had my N97 mini a month now, I liked the look of the phone but the bad reviews was something I worried about. Not had most the problems others have had, battery lasts 2-4 days depending on usage, internet drains it. Only froze once in the month, plenty of 3rd party apps and games you can get for free off internet.

Video recording is great and camera just ok. Internet can be slow sometimes, and YouTube seems pointless, just keeps buffering, very hard to watch anything on YouTube. This phone would be great with a faster processor, but its early days for internet phones.

Other negatives are the apps stay on unless you press exit each time, there's no short cut to turn them all off. Qwerty keyboard is handy for surfing and texting, good sound quality too. Overall about as good as any other phone on the market for similar price.

It constantly locks up and needs turning on and off to free it

Very disappointed. Phone has been nothing but trouble since I bought it. It constantly locks up and needs turning on and off to free it. The screen often freezes too. Nothing worse than half way through a text it locks up. Although it has alot of features I don't think the processor can cope. Wish I had bought a palm pre instead.

one of the major problems I faced with is the battery life

The N97 mini is a real value for money phone. The phone comes with a 5 MP camera which is good but the night images do not come up in the natural way.

The sound quality is extremely good and I enjoy listening to music on it. Although one of the major problems I faced with is the battery life which I feel is not that good. If you have applications which are on throughout the day the battery drains out quite fast.

QWERTY keyboard which makes texting and emailing a whole lot easier

I was a bit wary of buying a touchscreen phone at first as I didnt think I would be able to use it as easily as previous phones. However I dont have any problems using it. Its a great phone especially with the QWERTY keyboard which makes texting and emailing a whole lot easier. The menus and layout of the phone is really easy to use. Really pleased with it.

Touchscreen is perfect even if you have big fingers

The phone in general is great. Nice to hold in the palm of your hand, easy to work and use. Some features you will not find on most expensive phones, but the Nokia software is a little untidy. What I mean by this is the phone goes blank or try to load content, maybe wordpad or paint etc and phone crashes and I cant find any updates to rectify.

In general the N97 Mini is slick, sharpe stylish and unique nothing will touch it for a good few months.
Touchscreen is perfect even if you have big fingers. but touchscreen not for everyone, even I get bored of it.

must say that this is my favourite mobile phone to date

I am constantly changing my phone, normally due to dropping it breaking, and I must say that this is my favourite mobile phone to date. It is stylish and easy to use. To navigate yourself round the phone is simple and finding things is easy and well sign posted. I would highly recommend this phone. Additionally I have dropped this twice so far and it doesnt scratch easily and still works perfectly.
