Nokia N85 Reviews

The Nokia N85 is similar to the N96 but is slimmer and lighter. View your images and videos on the amazing 2.6 inch OLED Display and automatic screen rotation. Keep in touch with friends and family with instant messaging and internet calls. The N85 has a 5 megapixel camera with autofocus, stereo Bluetooth, FM radio, 8GB memory card and GPS with Maps pre-installed with a 3 month free navigation licence also included. This stunning handset is also a gaming phone with 15 N-gage titles pre-loaded. It is sleek and compact with all the features you could need in one package.
Nice compact phone with great 5mp camera.
This phone would be excellent, but I have had two of these so far and they keep locking up on me. The feature that I find most useful is the FM transmitter, put it in the car and tune the radio to the correct frequency and it plays all of your music, this is brilliant. Nice compact phone with great 5mp camera.
truly superb OLED screen that shows fantastic colour and crispness
The Nokia N85 mobile phone is a sumwhat old school style phone, you wont find a touchscreen here, though of course a lot of people like the fact that there is no annoying fiddly touchscreen controls to deal with and just a basic keypad.
When you boot the phone your greeted by the truly superb OLED screen that shows fantastic colour and crispness, the Symbian operating system on the other hand is not quite as impressive looking somewhat dated compared to others but it still remains quick and snappy allowing you to access all the phone features easily .
Now for the features the standout is the 5mp camera that takes great images for a phone camera, far above something you would see on the iPhone, the video the phone shoots also isnt bad, not up to a dedicated camera by any means but not bad.
So should you buy this phone, I say Yes if you can find it at a decent price as the updated N86 is now released which features a better camera and updated operating system.
Games and N-gage features are very good
Great phone but not the best well made phone I've ever used. Sound quality is not too bad could be better. Games and N-gage features are very good also the internet is very easy to use although there has been a few hidden charges. Would definitely recommend the phone.
its unbeatable in my opinion
This phone is amazing, it does everything, and well! Firstly it is a good phone with clear call quality and great speakerphone. But so much more - it is now my main camera, with a 5.0 megapixel capacity and a great zoom and video with great picture quality making it plenty capable, plus easy capacity to store and send pictures via text or email, or even upload them.
Speaking of the web, it has a great browser, with 3.5G making it fast, and wifi making it even faster! The screen is excellent, large, bright, clear...and it even has and accelerometer so it orientates to suit!
When you add in a great music player, normal earphone jack for easy listening, great stero speakers built in, GPS, google maps and Nokia maps and push email and games including Ngage, and good battery life and reliability and so many apps to add on on the symbian platform, its unbeatable in my opinion - and I didnt think i liked Nokia's!
we both experienced the following problems
Having debated over to have this or the N96, I finally chose the N85, it being smaller and sleeker. It still had what I was looking for - a good quality music player, to save me buying and having to carry a seperate MP3 player, and a good quality camera to avoid the same thing.
My boyfriend also got this phone shortly after me, and we both experienced the following problems. When video recording, the picture would stick every few seconds. The sound was okay, just the picture. Very annoying when your wanting to record a special moment!
Also when I plugged my phone into the car stereo, the phone would play one or two songs and then freeze, resulting in me having to remove the battery. Also when it does decide to play, the volume is very low.
We have tried software updates, changing settings etc but no joy.
Also we emailed Nokia, who informed us to take it to a Nokia approved dealer for repair, which neither of us are keen on doing. My boyfriend has had 3 of these and they all do it, so must just be a generic fault.
Overall the rest of the phone is excellent. Good menu's, easy to use. The phone lock switch on the side is very helpful. It's nice to hold and the slide is great, feels very sturdy.
If I hadnt needed to buy a seperate camera and mp3, then I wouldnt be able to fault this phone.
the build quality and features do make it a worthwhile
I've had this phone for only a couple of days and my first impressions were a bit mixed. The phone seems to be made well and the features are great but I find the operating system a bit slow at times and some of the function button on screen descriptions seem to get "stuck" at times and even when exited a menu will still show "options" and "exit" by the function buttons which is quite annoying. The only way to fix this is to reboot the phone.
The camera is good and is 5MP but even with a dual LED flash I find the pictures have a yellowish tint to them. Another thing I have found which is a little bit annoying is that when choosing a contact from your phonebook and having a phone call with them, if using the option of "close slide to end call" the phonebook is still running in the background and is not actually closed.
This review does seem a little negative but the build quality and features of this phone do make it a worthwhile phone to own.
a very solid and robust phone
The Nokia N85 is a very solid and robust phone. It has a very good build quality unlike many of its competitors. The phone has almost too many features for its own good. The MP3 player is of a good quality too, same can be said of the camera - although it struggles in low light conditions. Navigating around the camera can be slightly tedious at times - think Nokia could have made thinks easier to get to without drilling through numerous menu options. Overall a very good phone.
camera on it is an amazing, 5.0 megapixel and with the built in GPS
Not only does this phone look and feel good, it is also a solid phone with lots and lots of functions!
The camera on it is an amazing, 5.0 megapixel and with the built in GPS it can record on a map where each photo was taken. It also comes with loads of software from internet browsers to BBC iplayer and built in wifi meaning you can access the internet for free from any hotspot. The only down side to this phone is the cheap feeling batter cover, minor issue though.
love the phone but have problems with the button response
I only recently bought this phone and although initially VERY pleased with it (after many years sticking with Samsung I suddenly realised HOW useful a phone can be! But now having had it for nearly four months I'm realising the small gripes that I have with this handset.
Firstly I have to commend the usability - the handset is infinitely adaptable and personalisable. I particularly like how you can change the menu layout AND menu design. The camera is excellent although make sure you keep a steady hand, particularly in poor light! Video calling is also great although I rarely use this.
My main problem is slow response - particularly when answering a call it seems. The phone will sometimes take 3 seconds to 'catch up' and connect me, during which time the person on the other end can hear me, but on my handset I hear nothing and the screen goes ominously blank. This seems like a borderline crash to me - I may take my handset back if it continues.
Otherwise I particularly like the two way slide (works better on the N85 than the N95/96 as it's smaller and lighter) and the navi-wheel is a pretty funky idea (although also flawed...)
All in all, I love the phone but have problems with the button response.
A truly great compromise between design and functionality
A truly great compromise between design and functionality! I've had two Windows mobile phones in a row and to move back to the Symbian platform is great. Far more stable and less prone to crashing. I couldn't think of a better phone on the market. I have the phone on an Orange contract so the web speed is great. GPS does drain the battery but that is true for all devices.
Forget about the massive iphone, get an N85!
