The phone does freeze up and needs resetting at times

I mostly enjoy the added apps and utilities I can download off Nokia OviStore, they really increase the usage of my mobile. The phone does freeze up and needs resetting at times and the music and photo gallery lose information, not sure why this is though?

It comes with wi-fi which I found very useful when I was abroad

This was my first touch screen phone, I bought it on recommendation from a friend. Good things about this phone; the graphics are very clear, the camera which is a 3.2 megapixel is better than any phone camera I've used before (only problem is when you use it in poor light as the flash is not automatic)

It comes with wi-fi which I found very useful when I was abroad as you don't get hit by massive data charges. It has a contacts bar feature where you can put on up to four people you speak to the most, and you can contact them directly at the tap of the screen.

It comes with a facebook app already installed which is great, you can upload your phone pictures directly to FB, and can take pictures off facebook onto your phone to print via bluetooth. You can also access the whole internet, which the screen size is great for, as it's not too small.

Things I do not like so much; sometimes when you lock the screen it stays locked and the only way to unlock it is to take the battery out. The battery life is not long, I find I have to charge mine daily, though I do absolutely hammer my phone with usage. All in all it's a good phone and the good outweighs the bad points.

The full touch screen offers easy access to all applications

The Nokia 5800 has the play and build of the future technology of our times. It brings old S60 software and puts it right in the palm of your hand. The full touch screen offers easy access to all applications and features within the phone. It has wi-fi connectivity along with 3g for easy access to the internet and web.

it's features are great and I love the touch screen element.

The Nokia 5800 Music is easy to use just like all Nokia's, it's features are great and I love the touch screen element.
It wouldn't be for everyone though, as the screen has to be protected, or you can end up typing or calling something or soemone you didn't want to. To protect mine I just used a phone sock, again this muffles the sound.

One feature not so good, is that it only flashes a small light when you have a missed call, or text message, so it is easy to miss them.

the touch screen isn't as responsive as one would like

This phone is quite good, it has a great feature of being touchscreen. It allows you to use GPS on Nokia maps and allows you to access the internet and download applications to use. The battery life is good but that is only if you don't use the vibrate function for everything.

It is a good phone that allows you to use it as a MP3 player. It has a headphone jack to plug your normal headphones into. You can share your music, videos and pictures via a TV link which is provided. It has bluetooth so you can easily transfer your pictures or other files.

However, the phone does let you down by crashing from time to time, the touch screen isn't as responsive as one would like so it can get frustrating. When accessing websites, it can be slow at loading pictures etc, especially when you are accessing full website. Some websites are viewed as a simplistic mobile version and is quite basic but sometimes is not as great as being able to view a whole webpage as it would be on your computer or even on an iphone.

This mobile phone does offer a lot but has some features that let the phone down. Overall the phone is good if you want a mobile phone that does almost everything you want it to.

This is the best mobile I've ever owned, very intuitive to use. Have used it all over the world with no issues at all. Have Never needed to read the instruction manual, as it is easy to use. I have never known a mobile phone battery to last as long as the 5800.

it is not very easy to navigate around the menus

The overall phone is ok, but has a tendency to lock up and the screen goes blank, the only cure for this is to remove the battery and switch the phone back on. Also it is not very easy to navigate around the menus to find what you are looking for. The battery life is pretty dire too.

comes with Wi-Fi which is great

Great looking phone and easy to use. Plenty of features and comes with Wi-Fi which is great.
Touchscreen is responsive mostly but is very frustrating when using predictive text and trying to apply either "!" or "?" as even with the stylus you spend time messing about trying to hit the screen in the right place.

The music and video (Real Player) playback is great but navigating around your media files is awkward. This is a let down especially as the phone is marketed as a music phone.

Overall it's a great phone but with a couple of annoying minor flaws. Having said that I would definately recommend this phone to friends and family.

a shame you have to pay for the maps

Very easy phone to use and full of features with an excellent touch screen. What I like is the ease you can select music from the screen shortcut. Screen is easy to see in normal light but can be hard in bright sunlight. The built in gps is good but a shame you have to pay for the maps.

I am pleased to have been given this as a gift

This phone is not for everyone. There are so many features that someone such as I (middle aged) would rarely use many of them in the same way as the youth of today will.

My son, a 25 yr old also has one and his gets a huge usage compared to mine just on the extras. Memory capacity is huge but the big capacity cards are still relatively expensive.

My phone has come into its own since I got a super duper TV to which I can bluetooth pics and film.

The detail of pics is very good. Very convenient to have phone / camera same time same place. That said, the phone camera will never take the place of either my 35mm OR digital cameras.

The screen is large which is handy as my eyesight is not what it was when younger so a good score there.

Touchscreen, I am constantly in fear of the screen being damaged but so far so good. Mine is looked after. Any neglect and I fear for the integrity of the screen. Casing / cover DEFINATELY needed.

Being able to listen to radio can be handy for the news and ocassional music via my limited music.

The phone itself has always worked okay. Battery life is less than the claimed life of 8.5 hours but I am never far from a charger in car or mains so that is not a problem.

All in all, I am pleased to have been given this as a gift. It would not be my first choice which would ultimately be something much less techy.

I can see why my son loves his and his is well used.

When the phone works its a good phone

I have had to reset the phone to manufacture settings 3 times. It is always turning itself off and freezing. When the phone works its a good phone however it is so unreliable I have gone back to using my old Sony Ericsson.

My partner also had to same phone as was on Orange and he had the same problem as me and Orange were so unhelpful he ended up leaving and going to O2 and getting an iPhone. Overall not very impressed.

video camera and image camera are fantastic

Great phone, bit tricky on the numbers front but good nethertheless. Great applications and updates available. Dont know what I'd do without it.

I dont use my phone much for playing music which seems crazy seeing as that is the main reason for its manufacture. I got this fone because I thought it looked great and I'd had a go on one that my friend had and I liked it.

The video camera and image camera are fantastic on this handset. On other phones I never really spent time taking pictures but I find myself getting my phone out to take a quick picture for nearly everything.

love it, can be used with the pencil, plectrum or fingers

Hi, my son got this phone for me at the beginning of the year after previously owning a Sony Ericsson. I love it, its so easy to use and can be used with the pencil, plectrum or fingers. It does so much and with my other phone I could only write a short message or be charged for 2/3 texts, with this one I can write to my hearts content.

good sound quality, good camera

I found this to be a very user friendly handset. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is looking for a mobile with good sound quality, good camera and who is looking for an iPhone competitor.
Main features I like are the camera and video player. This handset also supports real media format which not alot of handsets support yet as a format.

features are good and the music player is also excellent

Good little phone, although I had had a few problems where the phone has frozen and vibration has become stuck on, sometimes the buttons have become non responsive, but other than that a great little phone, quite durable too. The features are good and the music player is also excellent. Text messaging can be a bit of hassle if you are used to using real buttons.

Very nice phone with many applications

Very nice phone with many applications, not very original as it borrows the applications together with iPhone. Most of the apps are actually useless, unless you are a fan of apps just to fill up your memory card

Design is good, but the screen gets really dusty at fingertip touch, you can use the pen which is at the back of the phone.

WiFi is great and surfing the web on it couldn't be better

All round good phone, maybe a little bit chunky to fit in a female pair of jeans but fits perfectly in a cute handbag. Good range of colours too (depending on network) but also has all the great features you'd need.

WiFi is great and surfing the web on it couldn't be better. Touchscreen the best I've ever experienced, very responsive and has never crashed or frozen on me. Camera is brilliant for only a 3.2 MP and takes great pictures. Also music player is great, so are all the funky applications you can download from the OVI store to make you feel like an iPhone customer, all round great phone would recommend to anyone!

for the money I am paying I can't really fault it

I've had this phone a day now and so far so good. I've had no freezing and the camera isn't as poor as people have mentioned.

Don't expect it to be as good as the iPhone, the Internet isn't as fast and switching between applications is a little slower. The GPS was spot on though and the guitar game is quite good.

Speakers are loud and there's loads of room for your music.

Also to the person who said that the caller ID isn't displayed, this can be changed in profiles.

All in all, for the money I am paying I can't really fault it, I'll write another review in a few months.

I needed a good all-round phone, which this is

I bought this for myself as I wanted a touchscreen phone that was not too bulky. I have found the 'plectrum' and stylus easy to use, the screen is a bit too small to text using fingers only, but its OK for scrolling, calling etc.

Camera is easy to use but not great quality, as you'd expect. Although its sold as a music lovers phone, I've not really used the music functions, as I needed a good all-round phone, which this is. Its not gimicky, and is reasonably intuitive, although I did have trouble changing my ringtone!

This phone is a real little gem

This phone is a real little gem if you need something that's not overly complicated to use. The calendar function is actually useful, the pictures are certainly a decent quality for a phone and the music player is very easy. It emcompasses web-browsing, which while a little complex to navigate is still quite good.

My only problem with the phone is that unless you use the stylus, the keyboard on the screen is hopelessly tiny unless you have the fullscreen mode enabled, then you have to keep turning your phone around a lot.

a shame as I love the design and functions of the phone

I am on my 3rd replacement for this phone, only had contract 8 months on range. 2 memory cards flashed now unusable. I have major problems, second phone had 3 repairs as it kept wiping memory cards and going straight to voicemail. Replacement phone arrived from Nokia the other day and have same problem, answers call when it wants.

I have been informed that there have been compatibility problems with Orange sim cards, not too sure if that is the issue. Its a shame as I love the design and functions of the phone but it has been a huge disapointment.

I recently bought this phone and so far am very pleased. The phone looks beautiful and is quite small for a touchscreen, which is good. My first touch screen and I have to say I am very impressed. The Nokia is easy to use and full of easy to use features. it's clear to me already that this is a fantastic phone

I've had a Nokia 5800 for a couple of weeks now and was going to wait a bit longer to review it so I had more time to decide what I thought, but it's clear to me already that this is a fantastic phone, and one I'm proud to be seen getting out my pocket!

Before I bought it I was worried that the touchscreen would be difficult to use - that I'd keep accidentally pressing wrong/extra buttons etc - and was told by a few friends that it took them a couple of weeks to get used to, but I found it easy to use immediately.

The 'buttons' are all perfectly big enough and for anything smaller (eg links when using the internet) there's a stylus and plectrum, though I hardly ever even need to use these. The phone is much bigger than I'm used to, but it still fits fine in my pocket and nicely in my hand - it doesn't feel too chunky.

I know the camera, at 3.2 pixels, is far from the best on the market but it's perfectly good enough, and the 8gb memory is masses for storing photos and music. The phone has lots of useful shortcuts - you can get to contacts, music, photos, the camera, the internet, bluetooth, videos, calendar, alarms...etc using just one or two touches and without even having to open the main menu. You can also select 4 of your favourite contacts and have shortcuts to them on the home screen, so you can get to their details, call or text them with just one touch.

There are loads of apps and games for this phone free for download at Nokia, including a good few already on the phone. I particularly love that the 5800 can connect to the internet via wi-fi and have found this really useful already. The bbc iplayer and nokia maps apps are nice touches too.

The only negative point I can think of is that the battery life doesn't seem that good - I feel like I have to charge it every day or two. Having said that though, it's not exactly a huge problem to do so and I've been using it fairly constantly as it's a joy to use, so maybe it'll last a bit longer when the novelty's worn off!.

I'd recommend this phone to anybody and when the day comes that it needs replacing, I'd more than happily buy the same model again.

can hold plenty of pics and tunes

A nice and compact mobile phone, but sound quality is pretty poor unless on full volume. Web browsing features are difficult for persons needing glasses and navigation is bad too. Screen illumination makes reading the screen in low light, or bright sunlight, hard. Memory is excellent, especially when expanded with a card, and it can hold plenty of pics and tunes.

The camera is also good but could do with a better lens such as that in the N95. Style is good and it has a nice feel to it. Could do with more widgets to make access of features easier though. Personally, I'd go back to my N95.

fairly easy to use and nothing too complicated

I bought this phone originally as a music player as my iPod had recently broke and I also needed a new phone. The music player and all the features attached to it are very user-friendly and I was rather impressed. The rest of the phone is what you would expect from Nokia, fairly easy to use and nothing too complicated.

Internet speed is quite quick. Comes with GPS

Great phone, the sound, camera and screen quality are excellent. The music player is great and doesnt sound like a phone if that makes sense. Takes a little getting used to but worth it in the end. Internet speed is quite quick. Comes with GPS. Also has a game similar to Guitar Hero which is great.

I'm actually able to write this review using its web application

This phone is so good, I'm actually able to write this review using its web application! Yet it doesn't give much of a choice of manipulating the phone hence it doesn't give you full control of the phone. I also have to say that the xpressmusic button is very useful since you can go on music and videos easily. However I feel that you should be able to change the shorcuts available in the xpressmusic menu.

good value for money and a really easy to use phone

Apart from trying to text with a stylus on a mini qwerty keyboard, the phone is one of the best Nokia's on the market. The only phones I can think of that beat it are the obvious iPhone and the Blackberry Curve/Bold. Overall good value for money and a really easy to use phone, once you get used to it that is.

Touch screen is fab, very responsive

Really great phone. Very stylish to look at. Touch screen is fab, very responsive. Only negative point, which isnt really even negative.. but the fact that the screen changes from vertical to horizontal when the phone is turned. This was a novelty at first but it makes it hard to use the phone while lying down, or if phone is accidentally tilted mid-text.

Came with 8gb memory so stores alot of higher end music

Great phone. Easy to use and work and has simple layouts and options. Is a tad less sensitive than other phones I've found out but still easily responsive. The screen wont scratch easily. The design of the phone is very nice to look at and is a long narrow shape that will fit in your pocket easily (however alot chunkier than others)

Came with 8gb memory so stores alot of higher end music and photos, one downside I found is its format is not compatible with older style phones so the photos will not transfer (or transfer and not open).

It comes with bluetooth and data cable so is easy to transfer music and videos across from computer to phone via the phone and the memory card. However it only stored a small amount of texts sent and received and deletes older ones when the phone gets full so its a bit annoying when searching for a message.

Comes with a few games that are good to play like guitar hero and is quite compatible with games downloaded from the computer to the phone. The resolution is very sharp and easy to see and the buttons are large and easy to get to.

The internet on it is good and loads quickly ( it has wifi so can connect to home hub with phone ) and I'd recommend this phone to my friends.

The touch screen is highly responsive, interface is great

This phone is absolutely, without a doubt the most user friendly phone on the market at the moment. The touch screen is highly responsive, and the interface is great. The only thing that I find lacking in this phone is the fact that the camera isn't as great as it should be for a phone of this type. If Nokia made the phone have at least a 5mp camera, then I would have paid even more.

I wasn't so sure about it, but I'm glad I went for it

Overall a great phone; the 5800 is stylish and up-to-date with enough extra features to prevent boredom on long journeys! The sound and video quality are both excellent and the camera multi-functional and accurate.

Of course, being touch screen, its important not to scratch the screen, the phone doesn't come with a case or screen protector other than the screen cover from the original packaging, which has stuff printed on it! This was a little of a disappointment but I found a case cheaply enough online.

Still, the phone came with plenty of accessories as standard: stylus (built into the phone), plectrum (alternative to the stylus), stand (for when watching videos), charger, USB cable (albeit a short one), TV cable and a decent set of in-ear headphones complete with controls.

Mainly I haven't run into any problems with this phone other than a couple of occasions when it froze, the only option being to take the battery out. Also had trouble with installing and running the accompanying software, it took a while to work out how to transfer music from my computer to the phone, and the manual wasn't all that helpful!

Messaging is a little confusing at first, but very easy to get used to. Other than that, it has worked brilliantly. The battery lasts ages, the menu is really logical, and all the buttons are in a sensible place!

So in summary:
Strengths: Audio and video quality, camera, functions, battery life, connectivity, design,
Weaknesses: PC software, touch screen unusable if damaged, messaging is confusing at first

When I was first offered this phone I wasn't so sure about it, but I'm glad I went for it, the 5800 is definitely a phone that any self-respecting mobile user should consider. Oh yes, it makes calls, too!

best choice I have made

I love this phone! I had another low-priced touch screen phone on my contract before, and got fed up with the unresponsive screen, so decided to buy the Nokia on PAYG, and it was the best choice I have made! The screen is far more responsive, and the WIFI and 3G capabilities are unbelivable! I haven't recieved any problems with this phone whatsoever as of yet, and really don't want to get rid of it.

had the phone now for few days and I really do like it

This is the first touch screen phone from Nokia, and what a good job they did with it. I have had the phone now for few days and I really do like it. Its speakers are loud it comes with an 8gb memory stick which I found good as with many other phones this would not be included.

The Nokia software I found easy to use, drag and drop and there are many sites out their that do apps and theme packs for this phone free where as Apple you have to use iTunes and pay. The camera on it could have been better but for the money you pay, its well worth it.

Brilliant, my first touch screen and I love it, absolute ease of use was one of the first qualities of the handset. The picture quality is amazing and the games that come pre loaded on the phone were fantastic, comes complete with all the accessories to connect to a pc and listen to your music and with an 8 g memory card.

Wifi and loudness of the music that plays through it

Since I have had the 5800 I've always found it easy to use. The Wifi and loudness of the music that plays through it are just 2 of the things that electrify this phone. The touch is awesome with a large screen and the flick screen lock feature allows me to lock the phone in music or video mode. All in all a great phone

The music player absolutely blew me away

I chose this phone on an upgrade from Vodafone. Having put up with my Samsung G600 for the last 18 months, I carefully browsed the net and came across what looked like the ideal phone - the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, on Orange, with unlimited free music downloads for the life of the contract.

So on to the phone. It's a neat, stylish phone, with a 3.2" high-def touchscreen, suitable for control by fingertip, stylus, little plectrum that comes attached to the wristband. I find the plectrum a little too bulky for dialling and messaging, however. It's got auto screen rotation - turn it on it's side and the menu rearranges itself into landscape layout.

For text messaging its great if you're QWERTY familiar, as you have the option of traditional input, predictive input, mini and full QWERTY layouts. It also has handwriting recognition, but I've yet to get it to recognise anything I write!

The camera is just 3.2 megapixel, which was an off-put to me at first - until I took my first photo. With Carl Zeiss optics and 3x digital zoom, the stills are incredibly clear and sharp, and the quality of the video is like nothing I've ever seen on a mobile. The autofocus ensures clarity each time, and it comes with a dual LED flash which incorporates redeye reduction option. And you can afford to take as many pictures and video, and download as much as you want, as on top of the 81MB internal memory it comes with an 8GB micro SD card, which is expandable up to 16GB.

It's incredibly light - at only 109 grams it makes my last phone feel like a brick - to put it in perspective, 109g is about the weight of one cd album in its case.

The music player absolutely blew me away. Its the Nokia N series digital music player, with 8 band equalizer, stereo widening effect and a bass booster. The integrated stereo speakers give crystal clear sound & its got a dedicated audio chip. Accessed by a single touch on the Media Bar on the front of the phone means no more scrolling through dozens of menus..brilliant.

What's not so brilliant is - each time I sync to Windows Media Player to add music, it syncs everything I've added to the sync list, plus then tries to do the same with every other track on my laptop. Try as I might I can't stop this from happening, and it only happens with this phone. So beware, watch it when adding music then cancel it once it's finished the sync list!

The 5800 comes with built-in GPS, so no need for me to invest in a satnav - very handy, although I haven't tried it out yet.

Unlike many phones, the 5800 comes pre-loaded with free versions of half-decent games to play. The incredibly frustrating Bounce and GR Racing Thunder. It also comes with Guitar Rock Tour, which you can choose to play the free version of. As you can imagine, this bears a (massive) resemblance to Guitar Hero, and is pretty impressive. And addictive. I've had to curb my enthusiasm for it, as I noticed after playing it a few times that both the stylus and the plectrum were leaving slight indents on the screen, however careful I was, and those indents aren't disappearing. Not a plus!

Battery life is pretty good, given all the applications that this phone runs. The max standby time is said to be around 400 hours, but as I keep playing with it I can't vouch for that.

Along with the phone I got: mains charger (yeah, I know, obvious), a stand (for placing phone into landscape format and watching Gavin and Stacey while on the train), music headset with built in controls (so as not to annoy others on train when watching Gavin and Stacey), wristband with plectrum stylus (pen stylus is built in to the phone), USB connectivity cable, 8GB micro SD memory card, easy to follow user and quick start guides, and a mini-dvd for guidance (I didn't bother watching it, yawn!).

Finally, a quick comparison with the iPhone, which my friend has and was eager to compare my "rip-off version" to, as she called it.

So firstly, the screen. The 5800 has a 3.2" screen, the iPhone a 3.5". But the 5800 has a resolution of 640x360 pixels, the iPhone just 480x320. As the new 3GS still will. Camera - 3.2MP vs 2MP on the iPhone. The new 3GS will still only be 3MP.

Both the 5800 and the 3GS have built in GPS, autofocus and proximity sensor. But even the new 3GS isn't capable of video calling, which is standard on the 5800. Not that I ever plan to use it...

The biggest benefit is the price, with the 5800 costing around £200 on pay as you go, yet the iPhone is still around £330 and the 3GS starts at around £440.

It's a no-brainer, get in there, get the Nokia! But just be sure that you're getting the deal you want. I love my phone and wouldn't swap it for an iPhone for anything!

no faffing around with converting music you just drag and drop

The Nokia 5800 is a great phone if you don't want an iPhone what with all the restrictions it has, and I think the 5800 has some much better features overall. (Partner has an iphone)

The touchscreen is very responsive, the portrait to landscape flip can be irritating at times, but generally works well. Internet is fast once you have 3G set up, remember to get a 3G simcard with your phone.

The handwriting feature is brilliant, once you've taken the time for it to learn your style it lets you create documents and texts so much quicker, and makes writing emails all the more easier as you aren't restricted to the touch screen querty.

The music features and sound quality of the phone are also superb, no faffing around with converting music you just drag and drop. I would like to see more free apps available, but there are some great ones if you have a search.

My only criticism is that it's a little thick and plasticcy feeling, a metal body would have been lovely.

music quality is breathtaking as the speakers pump out great quality sound

Having used a variety of Nokia handsets before, I was pleasantly suprised when I purchased the Nokia 5800 xpressmusic.

Stunning design allows you to seamlessly navigate through the menu's. The music quality is breathtaking as the speakers pump out great quality sound - not "tinny" in the slightest.

The handset it perfect for watching movies/video clips on aswell, having one of the biggest screen sizes! I would highly recommend it to anyone that was even remotely interested.

camera is brilliant with lots of options for editing your pics and videos

This is by far the best phone I have owned by far. It is a good size, and doesnt have lots of buttons you can accidentally press when its in your pocket. The keypad is touch screen which you can enlarge if needed when txting etc.

The camera is brilliant with lots of options for editing your pics and videos. The keylock on the side of the phone is also really handy. It is easy to use with sensors, and you can customise them to your own needs.

The music player is excellent and is louder than other phones I have used before.

especially like the BBC iPlayer and the Sky mobile applications

I've had this phone for nearly 6 months and I believe that this phone is a very good competitor to the iPhone. It's first major difference is the fact that it is not as 'big' and is, therefore, easier to handle - especially with one hand!

The touch screen technology is very responsive and the applications that come pre-installed are very useful. I especially like the BBC iPlayer and the Sky mobile applications.

The camera is good - however, in poor lighting, or if taking a long distance shot (i.e. using the zoom functionality of the phone), then the picture quality can suffer quite dramatically.

Also, with a free subscription to the Nokia OVI store, you can download new applications to customise the phone to how you want it to work for you.

I now see this phone as an integral part of my lifestyle - it is, primarily, my means of communication when 'on the go', but it is also great for use as a diary with it's reminders of meetings, notes, etc.

The main features of this phone that are great are:
1. The touchscreen technology
2. The Music player
3. The Applications
4. The size of the phone (compared to the iPhone specifically!)

The only feature that lets this phone down is the camera (3.2 megapixel, when in reality it should be a 5 megapixel one!).

Would I buy this phone again? Yes, without doubt - I may pass up the option of my next free upgrade - it is THAT good!

I really like this phone, but I find it confusing as it is touch screen rather than keypad. 3.2 megapixel camera is good and I have taken some great photos with it. upgraded my much loved N95 and overall I am very happy

I recently upgraded my much loved N95 for the Nokia 5800 and overall I am very happy with the experience.

First things first the touch screen. It is very responsive although the actual GUI has not really been designed for the touch screen. This means that some things will require a single tap while others require two. This might not seem like a big deal but compared to the iPhone it is a massive disadvantage.

The 5800 is billed as a multimedia experience and as such it performs remarkably well. Videos are crisp and clean with little evidence of motion blurring. The onboard speakers are loud and clear and having the headphone socket at the top of the unit makes perfect sense for those of us who like to have it in a trouser pocket while out jogging.

I must say however that I find the remote / aerial a tad unwieldy and the cable is slightly too short to allow it to be clipped to your waist band.

On to call quality, so far I have found calls to be clear and have not suffered from dropped connections interferance.

Credit must also go to the voice activation for the phone, simply press and hold the green call button for a couple of seconds and say the name of the person you want to call or the application that you want to run.

As for applications the usual programs are included as well as facebook and bbc iplayer apps. This being a S60 operating system however means that you can download hundreds of utilities (my current favourites being Nokia Step Counter and sports tracker)

The phone also has built in GPS (which for some reason manages to find a signal quicker than my TomTom can)

Nokia have released two firmware updates already which means that they are aware of customer comments and are working to resolve them.

Finally the camera, it is in a word awful. The picture is grainy and the built in flash is LED which means that it has very little power over about a metre.

Good Points, Easy to use, Voice control is excellent, Great sound quality, Good battery life (I manage 3 days running a number of utilities)

Bad Points, No multitouch on screen, Camera, Built in browser is a bit slow (Download and use Opera Mini)

the GPS feature is an excellent addition

I got this phone a week ago now and what an excellent little phone. The features are excellent, I think the GPS feature is an excellent addition. The phone comes pre loaded with maps so you can use your phone as a SAT NAV. The screen quality is excellent and is easy to use.

The phone comes with a 3.2 MP camera which is again excellent takes very high quality pictures with ease. If like me it takes you ages to write a text message then this phone truly is the answer, it comes with an on screen qwerty keyboard. Text messages take only a fraction of the time to write. Regards storage the phone comes with an 8 GB memory card which is enough for most people to store photos, music and any files that you may have saved on there.

The only downside to this phone is the case it is made of a cheap feeling plastic, feels like Nokia have been penny pinching, it's a shame as it does let the phone down a little. Also on the earlier models you got a case with the phone. Once again Nokia penny pinching they have removed the case now. So you have to buy one to protect the screen on the phone.

Overall an excellent phone which I am very happy with.

Great for playing music, a free 8gb memory card too

Good design, light with stylus thats built into the handset for easy reach and you also get a free 8gb memory card with most network providers. Great for playing music on, only one fault that I have, the loud speaker can be a bit funny sometimes, some people advise me that it can be a bit crackly when I speak to them. Great for using the internet easy access, also IM to keep in touch with your friends

the MP3 player is just a joy to behold

This phone is amesome! Having had it for just over a week I've mastered all its functions and I have to say was so easy to get used to.

The operating system it runs on is sooo simple to use and is a pleasure to feel your way throught its features, the camera despite being only 3.2 MP is awesome thanks to its Carl Zeiss lense.

The only thing that isnt so great is the wireless connection. Its a bit fiddly to connect but not impossible. Also the MP3 player is just a joy to behold!

decided to go for its main competitor the Nokia 5800 Xpress Music

Originally I was going to go for the iPhone but having read up on some of its kinks (the main one for me not being able to bluetooth) I decided to go for its main competitor the Nokia 5800 Xpress Music.

I've had it for just over a month now and must say that I am getting on with it really well. The touch screen is very responsive but not overly sensitive, unlike my previous phone the LG Viewety, sometimes you had to bash the screen to get working and other times touch it and it would go berserk!

As with all Nokia's the menu is well lay-ed out and simple to navigate, with enough features and applications to get you started. The 5800 also has the ability to used in portrait or landscape modes, this can be annoying at times because the view changes depending on how you are holding the phone and can be a little over sensitive.

As a music player the 5800 is awesome. Theres a shortcut button to take you straight to your music on the top right hand of the phone to get you listening to music quickly. The built in speakers are very powerful and produce a good clear sound and I must say the best I've had on a phone. If you want to listen to it via head phones I would recommend you buy your own because the ones that come with the 5800 have a very short cable (you would have to hold the phone buy your stomach ).

The 5800 has a great video player built in that produces a very good picture but its a shame that it is very limited to the amount of formats it will play. Getting your movies/music on the phone couldnt be simpler with the software included. Just a matter of pluggin the phone in then drag and drop.

All in all I think the 5800 is a great phone and would recomend to anyone. There are more and more applications coming out for it to keep it in contension with the iPhone, but in my opinion it is already better.

This mobile phone is outstanding, easy touch screen allows you to move around each menu with ease with the on board touch pen. The keypad lock on the side is easy to use and saves the batteries life, on a full charge it can last a whole week. I upgraded from a Nokia N95 and have not been disappointed at all.
its also the best rival to the iPhone, with a better camera to boot!

everything you would expect from a Nokia, touchscreen a bonus

Great phone, everything you would expect from a Nokia but with the added bonus of a touchscreen. Very sensitve, and touch not heat so you can use the stylus if you have something long to write.

Would recommend alone for the headphone socket - standard so you can use your own comfortable earphones! Only downside is it is a little bit big, so men may find it uncomfortable in a pocket - for me its big enough to be found in my handbag!

lovely phone to use and very simple even for me

A lovely phone to use and very simple even for me!! The only thing that lets this phone down is the search button for the internet is on the front and if you are not careful you can easily catch this and you end up paying for the internet if its not included in your package.

A good clear picture is also taken but it can take a few seconds as there is a delay once you click the button to take the picture and the subject can move in that time.

Messaging is easy and you have the choice of a qwerty board or just a normal keypad. This is the first time I have had a Nokia phone and I don't think it will be my last either.

both the inbuilt speakers and the earphones are superb

I wanted a 3G phone to replace my original tired iPhone, the new 3G version looks bulky and has a cheap looking plastic back. I bought the Nokia 5800 and I was not dissapointed at first although like another review whilst I could connect the bluetooth with my Audi it will not transfer the contact listing.

The sound is excellent though, both the inbuilt speakers and the earphones are superb, the radio excellent, camera is good, no problems with wifi connecting instantly. The touch screen is less sensitive compared to the iPhone which for me means it is much easier to use. The excellent soft 'rubberised' back stops it sliding around in my pocket.

The internet is a different matter altogether, I found the screen very small after the iPhone and found it almost impossible to use the google search which is why I bought it in the first place. The screen looks like it will scratch easily but mine hasn't yet only time will tell. I hate the Nokia startup 'handshake' music like my old Nokia 9500, it can't be turned off either.

Unfortunately, less than one week old and the Nokia 5800 has now ceased to work, nothing, dead. To add insult to injury a replacement will take at least a week to arrive and I suspect there may be a firmware upgrade due to cure the problem, couple that with a very poor service from Vodafone I am not a happy bunny. If I can't get around the internet and reliability issues when I eventually get it replaced I with send it back for the iPhones 'ugly 3G sister' with O2. Pity, it's very nice phone otherwise.

will not be looking to change any time soon

I've had this phone for three months now and I'm very happy with it. I bought it as a replacement for a digital camera I lost at christmas and to replace my aging LG chocolate.

The camera is very good in bright, natural light although images can by quite grainy in dimmer conditions. Still, the ones I've had printed at 6x4 have come out quite well. Another benefit aswell is the geotagging feature, where GPS locations are appended to the image so when viewing on your computer, you can pinpoint the exact location - handy when you're on holiday and you've got a million photos of 'pretty statues'!

It's touted as a 'music device' and while it's very capable, it's not as good as an iPod for easy of use -however, the 8gb card it comes with is rooms for loads of tracks, and it saves you carrying two devices about.

The phone itself is very responsive, has an excellent user interface (as all Nokia's do) and has been much better than I originally expected. No reliability issues to report. I will not be looking to change any time soon - really good piece of kit.

This is my first touch phone and I was a bit hesitant because I hadn't had one before but I have no regrets. Although it looks like a complex phone it really isn't; I find it really reasy to use.

It really is great for music, it has a larger memory than my iPod and has made my idog redundant because the speakers are such great quality and it is far more convenient.

There are 4 options on how you can text, I find the handwriting one so much fun but I tend to use the regular dialer just because I am so used to it.

The applications are great fun, Nokia's version of "Guitar hero" is epic and as a guitarist myself I find it very realistic because to master the game you have to learn the rhythm.

I would advise anybody to buy this phone.

on screen buttons are well placed and easy to use

I bought this mobile phone, I just like the cool look and 8GB of memory, with mp3 player thats easy to use up. Quick upload from my laptop make its even better. I think I will hold on to this mobile for some time. The on screen buttons are well placed and easy to use.

touch phase is good too with feedback as it vibrates lightly

The phone in a way has similar functions (or even better) than a iPhone. A 3.2megapixel camera, it is already better than the iPhone as well as the flash light and video recording.

The touch phase is good too with feedback as it vibrates lightly when you press a 'button' on the touchscreen, so you actually know that you pressed something. I like the big screen and the three different ways of input, full qwerty keyboard, small qwerty keyboard or just use a normal mobile phone interface. I also love the four contacts you can put on the front page with their pictures on.

It's lovely even though I would have loved to be able to put more favourite contacts on. Generally I really like the phone. It does what a normal phone would do and more. The only thing I don't like about this phone is the complexity of the programs that's already in the phone. Not sure how to use them (like the IM program where you are supposed to be able to go online with msn, yahoo and other messenger) but still haven't figured out how to do it yet.

So if you are only looking for a phone for the basic functions but want the try the new touch feel, this is the phone to go for, for me, I think this is the cheapest touchscreen phone out there and I am happy with it.
