Very good battery life on this phone, one charge lasts a week
A simple no frills phone. Ideal if you just want a second phone as a spare or for those who don't want an expensive contract with a phone featuring loads of extras you will never use.
Very good battery life on this phone, one charge lasts a week. Nice colour screen which is sizable considering this is such a small phone. The graphics are surprisingly good too. It has 3 games; Sudoku, beach rally and snake xenzia. Beach rally is fantastic. It's just a simple car racing game but I used to love this game back in the 80s.
Phone also features an FM radio which is only accessible if you plug the earphones in. I've not used this feature but it is still quite useful to have on a phone. There is no MP3 player or camera. You can't access the internet and it doesn't have bluetooth functionality.
The back of the phone is difficult to get off which only really becomes a problem if you are taking your SIM card out all the time. Useful other features include a flashlight and stopwatch. Quite a few ring tones to choose from too.
some really nice features and good display
Good basic phone. No camera, bluetooth, etc, but for the price this shouldn't be expected. Big display, some nice features, e.g. stop clock, torch, weight converter. Light and slim and battery life is good.
On the minus side it has two big problems for me, which is why I've marked it down. Firstly the back is impossible to get off in order to get at the battery and sim. Secondly the keys become really clunky after a while, if you do a lot of texting and you can hear a kind of crinkly sound behind them.
In summary it is good for a cheap phone. Basic and easy to understand, some really nice features and good display. But don't buy if if you do a lot of texting.
large screen and large buttons make it easy to use.
A cheap and basic phone for those who simply want a phone to do what it was originally intended: talk and text. No camera or frills, just FM radio. Slim handset with a large screen and large buttons make it easy to use. Excellent battery life for the price.
mobile for occasional calls on pay as you go and this certainly fits the bill
Just wanted a small, simple mobile for occasional calls on pay as you go and this certainly fits the bill. Very impressed with styling and ease of use. Only one gripe, I had to take the phone into Carphone Warehouse as I found it impossible to remove the back to insert battery and sim (back totally smooth). It took 3 people before one managed it, so not just me, otherwise, a great product.
reliable, and sleek, for £10 you cannot go wrong
Do you remember the Nokia phones of old? The ones with the simplest menu system ever? This phone is for anyone who already has a digital camera and an iPod and just wants an easy to use, reliable, and sleek phone. For £10 you cannot go wrong! You may even be able to sell it at a profit in 6 months time. Consider it an investment...
represents good value for money
The Nokia 1661 is pleasant to handle, a solidly made, basic mobile phone. Ringtones are clear and plentiful, screen is bright and it has an fm radio and the display is easily customised for easy viewing.
Phone book numbers stand out bright and clear. This phone has a good selection of extras, everything from a currency converter to a torch. No camera or internet functions, but for as little as £10 when bought on line, it represents good value for money.
lacks advanced functionality such as Bluetooth or a camera
The 1661 is a nice phone for its value. It runs S30 software. It lacks advanced functionality such as Bluetooth or a camera, but it has colour screen and a radio.
Its interface is easy to use and although its keys feel a little cranky, writing messages is easy. Its very thin and its glossy plastic finish makes it look like a more expensive phone. Overall, as long as you know what you are getting (and not getting), 1661 is worth its value.
bought this model for it's simplicity
I only need an emergency phone, nothing super technical and bought this model for it's simplicity. I have since discovered that it is also possible to use it on the web if you want to, but I am a pay as you go user so do not use this facility, and indeed do not want to use it. The handset is comfortable, light and easy to navigate with a little practice. Altogether a nice phone.

Mobile phones are constantly being updated in a constantly evolving industry with huge demands. Where camera phones go up by the megapixel on a monthly basis and the next big feature just around the corner, it certainly can be confusing finding the right mobile phone.
Most handsets now could be classed as 'smart phones' based on where mobile phones were a few years ago with the current crop of buzz words - 3G, HSPDA, megapixel, social networking, apps, A-GPS and more. Thats why reading impartial user reviews is the best way of deciding what phone to buy next!
