Great all round phone with a high megapixel camera

Great all round phone with a high megapixel camera. I bought this as a present and was so impressed with it, I decided to purchase one for myself. This phone is very easy to use and comes with a computer suite to download your pictures, videos and fies on, which is great.

It was really easy to use and brilliant for a touch screen phone

I really loved this phone. I loved the look, the style, the size and the shape. It was really easy to use and brilliant for a touch screen phone. Even though it was a touch screen, it still had some buttons, three along the bottom, which I liked having and found really helpful and also oddly comforting as a reminiscent of the traditional mobile phones.

Texting on this phone is easy peasy, with the simple choice between the traditional numbered keypad with or without predictive text, as well as the more up to date landscape keypad.

This phone also has an amazing camera, which I fully took advantage of! It was as good as having my own digital camera with me. Brilliant phone, infact the only down side to this model was the battery life seemed to fail after a while, for which I had to buy a new battery.

The large screen makes it an excellent camera phone

Good looking phone with great sound quality that is easy to get to know and use.

The large screen makes it an excellent camera phone and with a 5 megapixel size it is great when you want to print your photots as well as look at them on screen.

The touch screen works well with and without the stylus. It would be better if the style's had a slot to fit into as it look a bit like a lip liner hanging off the side of the phone, not a good look for the guys. The inclusion of a QWERTY keyboard for texting is great, really speeds things up if your not a big texter.

Overall, a neat package that you can use as a camera/video as well as a phone. Great addition to any pocket/handbag.

The best thing about this phone is that it comes in different colours

I really like this mobile phone because it has a 5mp camera and an excellent focus lense. It also has a memory card slot in with the sim. The best thing about this phone is that it comes in different colours, I have a purple one. The internet is very good, it comes with java which is not always the best version but if you know a lot about phones im sure you can change it.

The main disappointment as time progressed became the battery life

At first I was quite happy with this phone as an insurance replacement for my k800i which was lost. Although the touchscreen was not as responsive and easy to us as I would have wished, I learned to get used to it and the phone looked smart.

The main disappointment as time progressed became the battery life which is appalling! I have tried different settings, brightness, powersave but none of these really helped - nothing more annoying than going out with a fully charged mobile, taking only a couple of pictures or a short video and bye-bye phone for the rest of night!

This brings me to the camera which for a 5mp is grainy, lacks colour and suffers terribly in lower light conditions (not a patch on my old k800i 3mp, ten times better in all areas!) After only 6 months with this I am looking for a serious cameraphone.

I have missed many a priceless moment due to both the poor battery and camera on this handset. Looks like it will be back to Sony ericcsson or Nokia as this first experience of LG mobiles has left a bad taste.

The camera takes pretty decent pictures

I have had this phone for a few days now and I am really liking it. It is perfect for me as a light user and I am finding the organiser very useful.

The camera takes pretty decent pictures for a mobile with its 5 megapixel image sensor, I particularly like the fact that it looks like a camera when you use it. My only criticism is that it is a bit heavy but as a free phone with the cheapest plan it ticks all the boxes for me.

Overall, very easy to navigate around the different screens and the camera is exceptional, just like using a normal digital camera and packed with features.

Have had difficulty finding software to download my pictures to my pc but other than that have found the phone very easy to get used to, packed with features and a smart looking phone, have ordered a stylus as mine didn't come with one but that's no big deal

screen is small which makes using the internet very difficult

This phone is one of the earier touch screen phones and it shows. The screen is small which makes using the internet very difficult. The screen is slow to respond and not very sensitive.

However, the menus are clear and easy to use. The camera is also easy to use but with no cover the lense gets scratched easily. Also the zoom is not well designed, using it puts your hand infront of the lense.

takes excellent photos and a good video recorder

This phone is an excellent touch screen phone. It has a calibration setting so that the screen responds well to the users touch.

It has a 5MP camera that takes excellent photos and a good video recorder which picks up the sound and pictures very clearly. It has internet facilities as well as bluetooth and an inbuilt FM radio. It also has Muvee studio software which enables you to turn your photos into presentations. Overall an excellent phone.

compared with some of the other touchscreen phones, it's not the best

The phone is good, and quite fun to use at times, however compared with some of the other touchscreen phones around, it's not the best. You don't have any of the features on the camera like on the Samsung, and you don't have an amazing touch screen either.

As well as this, the battery life isn't the best, and it doesn't always seem to charge very well, although this may just have been mine? I had to buy three bateries overall for my handset. Also, the back keeps falling off. Overall, it is quite a good phone, although the novelty will eventually wear off.

some say that it's better than the Renior

Not a bad phone, some say that it's better than the Renior. I'm yet to find out if these rumors are true.

Cool little features that allow you to have a video as a ring tone, fun for about five minutes as you'll find yourself online always looking for new ones and dancing along and missing the call.(Maybe that's just a me thing)

Was sad when it died but like with all touchscreens I believe a cover of some kind is well worth the investment if you are as clumsy as me.

I've begun to fall out of love with this phone

As far as phones go this one isnt too bad. 2 of my friends also have this phone and we all liked it when we first got it. After a while though I've begun to fall out of love with this phone.

It starts off well but it seems more and more impractical. The touchscreen isnt very sensitive so it can be hard to use, hard to text on as well. I think I will just stick to good old fashion buttons from now on.

Although the good thing with this is that the internet viewing is good compared to normal phones, its not a great phone but its not a bad one either.

over a year, I am generally pretty happy with it

I've had this phone for over a year now and I have to say I am generally pretty happy with it.

Plus points, cheap, great Camera with Macro setting and Flash. Can take a 2GB Micro SD Card. Well made, reliable and pretty funky looking, easy to navigate through the Menus

Negatives, Touchscreen is fiddly and difficult to use with just fingers. Stylus not integral so you have to carry it around seperately. Will take a 8GB Micro SD card but will only recognise part of the memory (though you can still use the rest for storage)

Battery life poor and suddenly drops from fully charged to battery low with little warning

doesn't appear to be any protection for the lense

This impressive phone from LG has a nice 5.0 megapixel camera which includes autofocus and flash, combine this with the very easy to use touchscreen and you have a winner in my eyes.

A nice touch when shooting video is the ability to upload directly to the internet and impress your friends via youtube. Oddly though there doesn't appear to be any protection for the lense which is a tad shortsighted in my book.

Overall I feel the light weight and fairly easy to navigate controls make this a good phone, although the price may put some off!

excellent value for money

Have had the Viewty for roughly 15-16 months now and apart from the K800i(my previous phone)think that it is one of the best phones available. The touch screen is not as responsive as my partners iPhone, but the rapid Bluetooth exchanges to my iMac(2 secs)and the video facility make up for that.

I sell on ebay, so the Bluetooth picture exchange/quality of the pictures are incredibly important to me. It's a great looking phone. Has been bounced several times and still works ok.

I will say though that it isn't a very loud phone and the quality of sound is pretty poor when playing music with/without head-phones. Can be purchased now for £100 or less so in my opinion is excellent value for money. Overall,a great phone!

with a litle tweaking all these bugs can bne sorted out

This is an excellent touchscreen phone, although lacking in certain features these can be deactivated using a few pc programs, such as the camera noise is irritating and can't be turned off but with a litle tweaking all these bugs can bne sorted out.

The touchscreen itself lasts well over a year if kept scratch free and clean. the internet connectivity is also excellent and you can get a signal almost all of the time, be it 2g or 3g.

The camera is the feature which actually made me buy this phone as it is one of the best mobile camera phones I have seen and used. Overall I would say that this mobile is overall better than the 1st iPhone

Functions are clear and precise, the video playback is unpixelated and crisp

Just got on contract, very stylish, I dont know why anyone would complain its bulky ? is not so much as a camera phone, its a camera and a phone both fully featured, full size camera if your into photos then its as good as any 5 megapixel providing you have the brains to read the instuction book (unlike some it seems) the camera is very high quality.

Lets face it, you are going pay £100.00 for a decent 5megapixel camera and its around the same size so I really cant see the issue over the LG size.

Functions are clear and precise, the video playback is unpixelated and crisp. Only gripe I have is the fact that it should come with a case, just be careful if you carry in your pocket that you have no coins or keys etc as I see this phone would damage easy.

Anyway on the whole does what it says on the tin, a very nice bit of kit. If you want a smaller slimmer phone then just buy one instead of buying one of these then moaning its bulky? you wouldnt buy an estate car then grumble its to long.

had this handset 18 months and I'm very satisfied

My handset is the Purple LG Viewty KU990 I have had this handset 18 months and I'm very satisfied with it. It is stylish, suitable for all generations male or female. Camera is fantastic, text message memory is huge, sound is loud enough, only down fall is if you arent careful the touch screen weakens in the corners and you could find yourself with your screen coming out, if you have insurance this will not be a problem.

Better quality than the new Viewty Smart

If you want to know whether the LG Vuewty KU990 is the mobile phone for you then just go to YouTube where you will find a number of reviews plus a set of short, snapp video tutorials from Mobile Phone Training and The Human Manual taking you through the operation of all its features.

The two big positives for this mobile are its intuitive touch interface on the clear 3" screen and the ability to take you straignt onto the internet whenever you are in range of a wireless router whether it's at a service station or in a private house you just happen to be passing by.

The built-in modem and browser work fine and there is a bonus of being able to download Opera Mini if you prefer that interface.

The only point to watch is the variant you are offered - various boxes are labelled KU990, KU990i, KU990GO etc. They all contain the same handset but vary in the number of accessories they include. If your box does not include the half-size CD of LG PC Suite II software you can easily download it along with a pdf copy of the manual from http://update.lgmobile.com.

If you can't comunicate with your PC byBluetooth you may need the PC to handset cable with a standard USB connector for the computer and a mini-USB for the socket on the handset that also acts as charger and headphone socket.

Your Viewty will be locked to the network you buy it from but if you want to unlock it so that you can use SIMs from a variety of networks you will need to use an unlocking service. The IMEI number you will need for this purpose is printed on the tiny label with the serial number in the compartment below the battery.

You will probably want to buy the 2gb memory card (under £10) for extra capacity and music. If 2Gb isn't enough for you then you need the more expensive 8Gb Renoir or new 16Gb Viewty Smart. Both have higher resolution cameras but the Smart is less well built than the original Viewty.

In my view the now one year old Viewty is better value at around £100 than the new and less fully featured Cookie.

many things you can do with photos and videos allowing you to edit them

I really like this phone as it is easy to use. The only downside I would say is the memory being so small but there is still the memory card slot to give you the choice of extra memory if it is required.

There are so many things you can do with photos and videos allowing you to edit them without having to copy them to your computer first. It also gives you the options to type sms messages in a variety of different ways to suit the preferences of individual users.

Overall I feel this phone is the best I have ever had.

The large screen enables perfect viewing and good size buttons to press

This phone is user friendly even if you are someone who is not very techno-pro. The large screen enables perfect viewing and good size buttons to press.

The camera is obviously the best feature about his phone and for someone who enjoys taking photo's I enjoy using the Viewty for just this. With a large memory is allows me to store a vast number of phone numbers. One downside is that there is not a lot of memory space to "add events" into the calender or notepad, and for someone with a bad memory I need the extra space in my phone.

I have dropped the Viewty countless times but have never experienced problems. Overall I would recommend this phone.

This is the first and last time I will choose LG, even though I love the look of it, I find it uneasy to use compared to previous phones, also the signal seems to break constantly. I find this phone extremely handy! The touch screen is really easy to use, and the keys aren't so small that when typing texts you hit more than one letter. The keylock function is really easy to put on and off and handy.

Bad points, battery doesn't last long if the screen brightness is on maximum, yet a dimmer light means it is hard to see the contents of the screen in daylight.

reasonably cheap for a phone of its standard

The LG Viewty is getting a bit old now, but that does mean special offers have began to pop up making it reasonably cheap for a phone of its standard.

Advantages: This is a very nice looking phone, it's stylish and expensive looking, and the large touchscreen is such a bonus. The camera 5 megapixels which means you can take large photos, and they are pretty good quality. You've also got tonnes of camera features and mainly editing features, in addition there's even a front camera which is incredibly useful if you love taking photos.

The video is amazing, but only if you actually need it which I unfourtunately don't. It's good fun with the slow motion but not very useful. The music player is decent, it's not a music phone, but it's pretty good for an LG. The touchscreen is simple to use and very responsive usually, and the stylus is a wonderful little extra.

Disadvantages: Yes it's nice looking, but it's very thick! Try putting it in your jeans pockets and it will fit, but give you a large bulge which is not very attractive. The camera often comes out in poor quality if you haven't got it set up with perfect settings (go for the smaller megapixel settings). It also annoys me how the theme of your Viewty is restricted to boring text and backgrounds etc. It would be nice to be able to create your own themes.

So this phone is great if you want a slightly cheaper, not as high tech but still touchscreen phone. Therefore I love it and have done since I've had it. It's got a decent camera and video, but if you want a really good camera phone just go for a higher priced one, it's really worth it.

words "poor man's iPhone" initially spring to mind

The words "poor man's iPhone" initially spring to mind with this phone. The phone doesn't seem to quite know what it's trying to achieve. It's slightly too big to be a descreet, sleek phone and it's screen is too small to effectively browse the web or look at pictures.

The 5mp camera was initially a selling point, but there are too many features on it to be truely effective as a point and shoot camera. Unless you fiddle with settings that only a photographer would understand, the pictures always look slightly washed out and always lose focus if there is any motion in the shot.

The touchscreen is greatly overshadowed by the iPhone's. There is nothing intelligent about it. If anything, it can be fiddly and hard to tap on what you actually want - especially on the web.

Overall, I've had to learn to live with it, and it has enough features to be completely redundant. However, I would recommend anyone looking to buy this for the pose factor of a touchscreen 5mp phone to think again.

the focus is blurry and the image not sharp at all

The LG Viewty is a beautiful phone, it looks amazing and on first use is very impressive. The touch screen takes a while to adjust too if you are not used to a touch screen phone.

Overall the phone is great if you are happy not to try to use it beyond its potential. It has the possibility to rival the iPhones usability with the addition of apps...but this is something LG have not tapped into.

The camera is also of a poor quality given that it is a 5.0 megapixels, the focus is blurry and the image not sharp at all. If a great camera phone with great usability is what your after....I'd go for something else.

All fingers and thumbs and very easy to mis-type

This phone is terrible! I really find it so hard to use. All fingers and thumbs and very easy to mis-type, not great for sending a text, using the internet or basically doing pretty much anything.

And scrolling a screen is the biggest nightmare! you scroll, and suddenly you have been moved onto a new page- having had the phone mis-read you and think you have made a selection/pressed a selection on screeen rather than wanting to scroll the page. And thats if you can get it to scroll in a controlled manner- not 10 pages a second. And also scrolling in the right direction is very tricky- for some reason, you have to roll your thumb/chosen finger up the screen to get the page to scroll downwards.

I also found it impossible to use in daylight, the images on the screen just vanish before your eyes nothing to see, the sun just seems to be too strong, only an indoor phone?

Added to this when using an automated phone service which asks you to press certain buttons. Even an exfoliated (non greasy) face leaves a slight smear on the phone screen which then makes it impossible to see the actual screen, your immediate reaction is to wipe the screen clean, only doing so, you invariably press number keys which put you onto the wrong menu.

Luckily there is a quick-lock key to do that, but its not so fast to unluck when you press it, there is a good 5 second delay, annoying if your using a call center automated service (like with your mobile phones service center.)

Battery dies within a few hours if your on the net. Not tried music but know from previous phones its not going to help the remaining battery power.

Signal stregnth is not good. I have had a Nokia and a Sony Ericsson. I could get a signal just about, in my home. With the LG? No signal, not until I am a good few minutes away from where I live. So not practical.

Chunky chunky phone, not so pretty but good for holding onto and not losing, just get a case for it, that screen is probably going to get a scratch on it at some point.

This handset has overall been very reliable and easy to use for the most. The touch screen can sometimes be difficult to use however and I would not recommend it for someone who is not used to technology, or has difficulty using things that can be a little fidly to use.

Not very usable, the touch screen is poor, battery life is bad and you very often have to use your pen to get the touch screen to respond. If you like playing games then it is almost impossible to do so on this phone. A real let down for me.

wanted a phone that was a good enough replacement for my digital camera

I love my Viewty! I wanted a good looking phone that was also a good enough replacement for my digital camera, to save me from carrying both around. The Viewty has done the job!

It has a great 5MP camera, but I find it does a brilliant, sharp job using just 3MP. It also has an MP3 player facility and radio with quite good sound. The touch screen is easy to use with or without the stylus provided.

Summing up, if you want a great camera phone then this is for you!

A good phone for what it costs. It has some of the features of an iPhone for alot less money. It is a bit bulky but all these type of phones are. The screen does start to scratch after a while and there can be a delay when trying to text but its never let me down and I've had it for over a year. So all in all its a good phone for me.

the 5.0 megapixel camera being by far its best feature

I think this phone is fantastic, the 5.0 megapixel camera being by far its best feature, the fantastic thing I discovered is that unlike a lot of handsets video recording playback on other devices is small and very pixaly unlike the Viewty which whenever I playback on my pc I get crisp clear quality and plays back divx large screen, so ok its a bit bulky but hell its worth it just for the camera.

I was really impressed with this phone when I first got it. It seems a little dated now, but is still a great phone that is very easy to use and looks so stylish. This is the first phone I have ever used WAP on and because of the touch screen it makes it so accessible. Overall an amazing phone

new, upto date but not expensive, I was not disappointed

I bought this as wanted something new, upto date but not expensive, I was not disappointed. I have used it in America to phone home and have never had a problem. My one gripe is sometimes it is hard to scroll down with the pen to get to the phone numbers.

The camera is great, I got just as good pictures with my phone than with an 8 mega pixel camera. It is a great sytlish, touch screen phone for a fraction of the price as some of the new ones just out. Plus it is red and I love it.

Very good phone but does scratch

The LG Viewty is a very modern phone - which over time is very simple to use.

One main problem is that the screen does scratch rather easily.

Another problem is that you can not listen to music whilst charging the mobile.

Overall the mobile phone is a very good, stylish and versatile piece of technology.

interface is easy to use and finger friendly

It is a great phone. It takes very good photos with its 5MP camera. The interface is easy to use and finger friendly. The touch screen is resistive so you have to apply pressure to register your touch. Using your nails is accurate or you can use the stylus that comes with it as an attachment (which might I add looks like a lipstick).

Texting is made easy with the alpha-numeric pad with predictive text, handwriting or by using the qwerty keyboard. It comes with a not so impressive 120MB memory with only a 2GB memory card capacity (which you must buy seperately if you need the extra storage).

Calling someone is easy via the phone option on the main menu which brings up the numeric pad. The web browser is crippled with no flash support and is slow. The battery life is feeble especially if you're taking on the phone for more than an hour a day, in which case you'll have to charge the phone every other day. Overall a good phone if you're looking for a phone with a decent camera and talk infrequently.

has all the features I wanted, especially the camera

I really like the look of this phone and it has all the features I wanted, especially the camera, and the handwriting recognition (normal texting is difficult due to disability).

I've had the phone now for just over the year and although I'm still ok with it, it is causing problems: despite all attempts to be careful, the screen is now badly scratched which makes texting a real pain in the neck; and the touch screen means that you can sometimes switch off the microphone during a conversation without even realising it. To be honest, don't think I'd have one again.

what lets the Viewty down is its poor user freindlyness

I received my LG Viewty about 2 months ago and the overall toughness of it is exceptional. I have dropped it several times and, apart from a few minor scratches the phone is in very good condition!

The phones features a 5 megapixel camera which takes outsanding pictures and has a pretty decent music player. But what lets the Viewty down is its poor user freindlyness, the touchscreen often doesnt respond and the phone crashes regularly.

The software is definitely a major problem but if that doesnt bother you, and your wanting a touch screen with a very good camera I would definitely recommend the LG Viewty!

A very good all round phone

A very good touchphone. Its camera is 5mp and takes good quality photos. There is also a flash for indoor photos. A good mp3 player and voice recorder. Access to the internet is good.

There is a sylus attached to use on the touch screen but it is very easy to use without that, even with chunky fingers. The keypad is straightforward and there is also the option of an onscreen QWERTY keyboard.

It is very sturdy yet compact. A very good all round phone. I fully recommend the LG viewty for anyone.

I think I have been converted

Great phone, was hard moving from Sony, but I think I have been converted. The LG Viewty has very similar qualities to a Sony.

The touch screen, 5MP Camera, and large screen make it great for taking and viewing Photo's. This phone is the best I have used for WAP, accessing loads of websites that are normally not accessable. I can use it with Online Banking, Ebay, MSN, Facebook with ease.

Good Points:
5MP Camera, Large Screen, Touch Screen, Easy Use Menu

Bad Points:
Annoying zoom button on the back.

very good phone for camera use and as a general phone

Had this phone for around 2 weeks now, so far its working very well, mainly bought for the 5mp camera which is very good as long as you have a steady hand.

Touch screen works very well although if your a big user of txt messages, it does take a little while to get used to not using physical buttons but rather the on screen keypad instead, although there is handwriting recognition aswell which works well but a little slow for my liking.

Other than this, everything works great, good with general phone calls, clear signals and good volume etc.

The computer software is pathetic though with the LG PC Suite just not detecting my phone via Bluetooth and the USB Connection causing the suite to crash and this is not my PC - I'm a PC repair technician and have not been able to resolve this issue as of yet

So in summary, a very very good phone for camera use and as a general phone. Works well with txt despite the on-screen keypad but the connectivity to computer can be frustrating.

touch co-ordination goes out of sync which is really annoying

I think that the Viewty is a very good phone overall. However after having it for a while I found out that the touch co-ordination goes out of sync which is really annoying. For example if you try and click new text message it wont work and you have to click on it several times before it even know's you are doing it.

The music section is very good on the phone, you can store and play lots of songs and the headphones are great too. However I lost mine and i'm finding it very hard to find a replacement set for a reasonable price.

The text message storage is also good, I can save about 300 texts on my phone. When you have reached all it can store a little red envelope appears at the top of your screen if you click on it, it then takes you straight to your messages so you can delete a few.

The camera is also good although sometimes even if you hold it really still it still comes out blurry, I don't know if this is a fault that all the phones have but mine definatley does.

The photo wizard on it is also very good if you want to crop photos it also gives you an option so you don't have to overwrite the origional photo you can save it to another file.

The phone book is also very easy to operate I didn't realise but if you pull the zoom trigger on the back of your phone it scrolls down the numbers to save you having to drag it with the pen.

The pen on the phone is another thing I found annoying, when you press it on the screen you can only press it gently or it retracts into its case, this is why I gave up using the pen and now use my thumbs. Other than that a great phone overall.

a decent, if not amazing phone

The LG Viewty is an all rounder in many ways. Its layout and touch screen is top notch with a bright 5inch screen and good solid feel when pressing the screen. Has a decent 5 mega pixel camera and video suite is easily worked but where this phone fails is the actual phone itself.

The actual phone itself feels a bit "cluncky" and the back is flimsy - mine and one of my friends have broken off. Also (not sure if this is to do with my memory) it can take some time to load up films and pictures, mine has incandescently just crashed. The sound through the phone is decent at best and the screen can be hard to see when in light, web browsing can also be difficult. The picture quality can also be very poor in the dark even when the flash is on.

Overall the Viewty is very efficient handset, one that you cant really go wrong with, its not as flashy as say the iPhone, doesn't have the same quality as the new Ericsson or the design of the Blackberry but does tick all the boxes for effort in combining most of the good points into a decent, if not amazing phone.

definitely is one that takes a lot of getting used to

I was really excited about getting this phone as I thought it looked like the new iPhone. When it arrived I was very impressed by the professional looking packaging and the screen was really big.

However, the phone itself is quite thick which means it is more like a compact camera than a phone. I also found the touch screen extrememly difficult to get used to, the response is quite slow and the buttons are quite small so unless you use the pen which is equally as fiddly it is difficult to get a text message right first time.

However, the phone camera is very good quality and it also has wap access and mp3 player. I was unimpressed with the games feature as the phone only comes with one game and this is just a demo which lasts about 20 seconds if that.

The battery lasts a fairly long time but the screen does get quite dirty if you are talking on the phone for a long time. All in all it has the same features as most phones but definitely is one that takes a lot of getting used to.

Must use a screen protector as it quickly becomes scratched

Beautiful phone to look at and impresses. The frequent automatic locking facility is frustrating, as it locks itself whilst you are trying to use it. Scrolls move too fast and it is not easy to access a number accurately and quickly, as it goes past it.

Using the "pen" is more efficient than a finger, but its not always practical to carry it with you and have it to hand when you need it. Must use a screen protector as it quickly becomes scratched.

Has a delay when using the same "key" again, when texting. Some "keys" at the bottom of the screen are placed too near to each other and cause a function to occur, without intention. Not a phone I would choose again.

Writing txts is the easiest I have been able to do in a long time, especially if you do predictive txt. I will say once you get the phone it takes a little time getting used to it.

The camera is high quality and the camcorder is great also. You can make a video as long as you want to not the 30 sec clips that my old Nokia did. The camera and camcorder is 5 mega pix and it has settings on it that a normal camera would have, which would suit keen photographers. It has video calling and you can put a pic of your friends in the phone book so their pic comes up when they call. I would recommend this phone to all.

The LG Viewty is a very nice phone to look at, with a simple black design and the lack of a keypad allowing for a large screen which comes in handy when you want to view your pictures, videos etc. For a large phone it is also surprisingly light to handle.

first thing I will say is get rid of the damn stick that comes with it

The first thing I will say is get rid of the damn stick that comes with it, it hung from the side and caused numerous scratches to the screen. At least LG were kind enough to supply screen protectors before any permanent damage was done.

The phone has a nice camera and video recording feature however purchasing at least 1GB card is a neccessity. Most functions work okay, and there are very few freezing issues. The only downsides are limited theme changes and no wi-fi.

I dont think you could get much better in this price range

This is the best mobile phone I have ever owned by far, the features really are a leader in the mobile phone market.

I now love texting my friends and family, as the pen that comes with the phone allows you to write your message on the screen instead of using the buttons, a few of my friends have had this feature on their mobiles but it was so slow to use and inacurate it wasnt worth doing, it took ages to write just a short messsage, but with this phone it is very easy use, it really is as simple as writing on paper and you can write your message at a decent speed.

The music player is very high quality also, on christmas morning my family was shocked that it was my mobile playing the music they could hear, there wasnt even a hint of the usual tinny sound that mobiles usually have, the sound is smooth and clear.

The last feature I feel I must mention is the camera, this really is as good as a regular digital camera, in fact looking at the phone from the back angle it looks just like a nice little camara, and the pictures it takes are excellent quality.

Overall, this is an amazing phone, I dont think you could get much better in this price range at the moment, the only thing that isnt perfect with the phone is it looks slightly blocky, but as you need a big screen for the texting this would be difficult to have a better design.

My 16 year old daughter knows everything there is to know about the latest trends and fashions, and she is so impressed with my phone, she has gone out and bought one for herself, although so we can tell them apart she has gone for the limited addition purple version.

texting and scrolling down the screen it is sometimes hard to do

This phone is very user friendly, the only problems I find with it is when texting and scrolling down the screen it is sometimes hard to do.

Like when texting, if your next letter is on the same key you have to wait like 2seconds for it to start flashing before it will chose that letter. The scrolling down part, its as if the screen isnt so sensitive and doesnt register your touch all the time, so obviously doesnt scroll down the page, other than that the phone is a good all round phone

the best feature of this model is the 5.0mp camera

The LG Viewty is fairly easy to use with touch screen technology as one of the main features. For me personally, the best feature of this model is the 5.0mp camera which includes red-eye reduction and an image stabilizer. The quality of the pictures are better than standard for camera phones.

The design of the Viewty does leave some room for improvement as it really does just look like a camera. It's not the best choice for a mobile if you are looking for something stylish or more slimline but what it sacrifices in style, it makes up for in features.

On the whole, this model is one of the best I've seen on the market and with LG you can almost always guarantee quality. I've had this phone for a year now and have had no problems.

a great touchscreen phone with excellent screen size

It was the touchscreen that really appealed to me with this phone, along with the 5.0 megapixel camera. The camera images are the best I've had from a mobile phone, and the led flash works pretty well. The 3 inch touchscreen is really good for surfing the web, and it connects up pretty quickly too.

It has a really fast autolock which means there is very little chance of pressing the touchscreen in error while it's in your pocket or bag. It comes with a little pointy stick to touch the screen with, but this is a little irritating as it dangles from the handset that you'll probably find it easier to ditch that and use your fingers.

All in all a great touchscreen phone with excellent screen size and very good quality photos for a cameraphone. I would buy this phone again.

Keypad lock and general usability could be improved

I got this phone as I thought it looked a bit like an iPhone, so at first glance, passers by would think it was, oh how wrong I was.

Firstly, its about 3 times thicker than the iPhone which makes it a bit brick like. Secondly, its not particularly good in the ease of use category, for example, it has an automatic keylock, which sounds like a good idea, but it activates after 10 seconds, so you find yourself having to take it off all the time which gets a bit annoying.

This also means that when you have rung, say, the bank, and after listening to the automated message for a bit, you then have to take off the keylock, press another button to put the keypad on screen and then you can type in your numbers. Imagine having to do this every few minutes, damn, its annoying.

The charger plugs into the side and is really sensitive, so if like me, you don't quite get it in right, it wont charge. It is so easy to do this and I have done it many times and been left without a phone the following day.

Its not bad to look at, apart from being a bit thick, but its not worth the hassle that comes with it.

good touchscreen mobile phone, although there are a few flaws

Very good touchscreen mobile phone, although there are a few flaws, like where the charger port is, its very awkard if you have it plugged in and you are talking it seems to get in the way. The camera could have a cover to protect it and there is no setting to have the flash on when you are recording which is no good if you are filming at night. Other than this its a very good phone.

lovely big screen ideal for playing games and viewing your pics

I think the LG Viewty is great, it has a lovely big screen ideal for playing games and viewing your pics and vids, and the camera is second to none.

The multiview screen comes in very handy too, I love the fact that everything can be done on the touch screen but you will need one of those screen protectors. It has a large memory so you can store everything. The web'n'walk, mobile tv and jukebox functions are just what you need to keep your fingers busy.

I didnt like the fact that it didnt come with any games or that the emoticons in text messaging are so basic, other than that I love my Viewty.

Overall a very nice handset, if you don't need all the singing dancing extras

A stylish and well designed phone, with well laid out menus and an excellent screen, that allows for easy operation, by way of a very sleek touch-screen interface, which is normally quite responsive. The only trouble I found was that the scroll feature can sometimes be a bit hit or miss. The inbuilt features are not top of range, but are perfectly adequate, including a decent well specced camera.

The only truly annoying feature is that when calling an automated call centre, where you have to go through a multi-layered menu system, the phone will repeatedly lock itself after every 15 seconds or so, which means that you have to keep unlocking the on-screen keyboard before you can enter your next key option. It does include a very smart-phone like address book, but there are no in-built office compatible applications.

Overall a very nice handset, if you don't need all the extra features of an often more expensive all singing, all dancing smart-phone.

camera on the phone is of good quality and the flash is very good

Good phone although texting can be challenging at times as the touch screen recognises the heat from the tip of your finger. The camera on the phone is of good quality and the flash is very good, the camera also features a video recorder that uses DIVX and has software to support where you an edit your videos. Nice design and a good attempt by LG.

The phone has a great design and easy to use once you have played with it for a while. Picture quality is not as good as I expected though. Touchscreen is fun. Great for messaging. Like the touchscreen but does take longer to text

Great looking phone, slim and black. Like the touchscreen but does take longer to text, though have got quicker and only had for a week. Have put free screen protector on to prevent scratches as using fingers, didnt like the stylus. Good sound for music and radio and on music videos that I put on the micro sd card. Great on internet as can swivel pictures, overall a great phone.

Besides being a little bulky in the pocket this phone is a winner, it has everything, touch screen, MP3, video, 5.0 Megapixel camera and many more features to drool over. The only thing missing is the games that come with the LG Secret "My Toy" they are motion sensitive games that are completely opperated by the movement of your hands.

handwriting recognition, great camera and superb screen

Really nice looking phone. Takes a while to get used to a couple of it's idiosyncrasies, like when selecting something you have to click just above the relevant character, rather than on it. Also, it's tendency to lock itself at inconvenient times. Great points are handwriting recognition, great camera and superb screen.

a good phone to own if you like the iPhone but cant afford the tariffs

I like my LG Viewty and would list it as a good phone to own. Like all phones though it has its good and bad points.

Pros, good camera, touchscreen, layout on screen, memory card slot.

Cons, bulky, pen becomes loose after a while which can be annoying.

Overall this is a good phone to own if you like the iPhone but cant afford the tariffs or the phone itself.

The phone is adequate however I find the screen hard to use. Often I mis-type or press the wrong option which is annoying, it works slightly better with the free stylus but its still quite poor.

The features on it are good, except the movie maker, it never seems to save no matter how much memory you have on the phone. The sound quality is great.

less than 6 months, and have had one major fault occur with it

I've had this phone less than 6 months, and have had one major fault occur with it - one day I plugged in the headset to ensure it worked properly, ever since the profile has been permanently stuck on headset.

You cannot make or receive a call through the handset and you cannot select any other profile. I have sent the phone back to LG and am waiting for a response.

When I initially took it back the assistant mentioned she had seen this a few times now and suggested it was a programming fault not just a random incident. Has anyone out there had a similar problem happen?

The phone is very stylish and minimalistic

This is the first touch screen phone that I have ever purchased and I am pleased to say that it wont be my last.

The phone is very stylish and minimalistic with only three actual function buttons on display. I mainly use my phone for texting and the fact that it has a querty keyboard makes it a breeze (most of the time) sometimes it can be a bit over sensitive and it can be quite easy to hit the wrong letters, the stylus pen does avoid this happening most of the time.

The only thing that annoys me about this phone is the rapid 'locking' of the phone, if its left inactive for a few seconds it locks itself and I cant work out how to extend the time.

The phone is overall very good. The camera is decent enough. Excellent phone, great display and functions, size is great and easily slides into your pocket. The camera is quite good though the zoom is not that great and you lose some distinction in the picture.

Sound is great on loudspeaker for music and the text functions are great with it all being touch screen it senses your fingers really well and I rarely make a mistake or get an option next to what I wanted though the screen covers are not that good and you end up with air bubbles which is a shame as it takes away from the style and design.

appears to have it all, some fantastic features, interface could be improved

The LG Viewty appears to have it all, it definitely looks very smart and is very appealing to the eye. It boasts a 5.0 megapixel camera, with 120fps video recording, not only that but HSDPA is built in with 3G.

However, the downsides to this phone include the user interface, it has been poorly designed and after a while, just becomes a pain.

If you are looking for a wow mobile phone, this certainly isn't the one in my opinion, but it's a great every day use phone.

really cannot recommend the camera and camcorder facility enough

I wanted a phone that made it easy to surf the internet, had a good camera and a long battery life as I have found as phones get more sophisticated the battery life gets shorter.

This phone is ideal, I really cannot recommend the camera and camcorder facility enough, it has a 5.0 megapixel camera with a superb zoom and is so simple to connect to my computer and take the images from it. In fact it is often mistaken as a camera and not a mobile phone at all.

As a design it is surprisingly light given its size, my one criticism would be the width which I am sure is there to house the camera option but a little slimmer wouldnt go amiss.

In terms of usability its touchscreen is just the right amount of sensitivity and as the lock button is on the side of the phone it remains locked even in your handbag. As with all touchscreens they do take a bit of getting used to and I found the instruction manual on the short side - for example it doesnt tell you were the delete button when writing texts is located.

On the whole does the job and has a great battery life.

A beautiul phone with fantastic camera facility, easy to use in general, however can be a little slow and also the battery does not last very long at all, if your using the phone function a lot especially.

The stylus is lovely and smooth and hangs very nicely like a 'phone charm' however can sometimes be a bit annoying, getting caught up in your bag etc.

Most of all, the phone is delightful to use, lovely to look at and practical, as long as you keep your charger on you.

Terrible battery life, I bought this and noted some concerns about battery life on other reviews. I thought I had overcome it by unplugging and re plugging the charger beyond it saying fully charged.

However the last few days my battery has only lasted 8 hours and that's only sending 5 texts, no calls and the backlight switched off, I'm afraid I'll be going back to my Sony Ericsson K800i when I get home which also allows me to voice call when driving (again something the Viewty doesn't do) and leaving this as an emergency spare

Touchscreen a pain to use when an automated call system asks for numbers

Bought this phone six months ago as it was inovative with functions that seemed a must have.

In reality the touchscreen can be a pain to use at times especially when an automated call system asks for numbers, in this scenario you have to press a button on the side then an icon on screen to get a number pad then finally the number, for me this is just hastle.

The battery time from full charge to dead poor, less than a day if the mobile is left switched on without making or recieving any calls, if the battery is alowed to fully drain it is difficult to get the phone to begin charging, I have to remove the battery plug the phone into its charger and replace the battery to get the phone to begin to charging.

Combine this with the quick discharge time and you have an idea how much of a pain this phone can be.
If I could turn the clock back six months I wouldn't buy another Viewty, or LG as I have had battery problems with other LG mobiles.

The LG Viewty is a good all rounder, a few things that I have found to be a pain though.

The pen/stylus that comes with it came right out of its holder and needed to be glued into place. It does not stay fully charged anymore, the lack of themes ability to personalise and it takes ages to browse through pictures when you have taken loads with the not so great camera.

It didn't take long for my feelings of contempt to subside

My first instinct when presented with an LG handset was to laugh. Not because it looked bad, but simply because it's made by LG, let's face it, they haven't got the best track record (just look at the '3' launch handsets over here in the UK on 3rd March 2003).

However, it didn't take long for my feelings of contempt to begin to subside. It seemed to have all the features I needed, but most importantly it seemed to have a logical menu system - surely a first for LG. The vibrating feedback when pressing virtual buttons on the screen also seemed to be rather a Godsend, making it far easier to know that you've made contact.

Anyway, I semi-grudgingly accepted the handset and have now been using it for quite a few months. Do I have any complaints? Well, no. I wanted to have some, I wanted to say that my initial scepticism was well-founded - that it fell apart in my hands or was just a bit poo ... but it wasn't.

I've dropped it quite a few times and subjected it to some sights a mobile phone really shouldn't have to endure, but it's still kept on going.

In short, it's a great phone. In fact, it seems that this previously unwanted handset really was a perfect replacement for my considerably awful Nokia N95 (but that one's another story ...).

Good phone and features, not compatible with a laptop though

I bought the LG Viewty because of the brilliant reviews it had been having. I also wanted a good camera phone and music player.

However, one thing which nobody seems to have had a problem with other than me is that I have a laptop not a desktop computer and subsequently have been told by LG that syncronisation with laptops is extremely poor and should I wish to download or upload anything then I will need to change my laptop to a desktop (bit expensive).

I am now left with a phone that is less than useless to me and which I am stuck with for the next 12 months (yep I am in a contract). So be warned.

Not only a fab phone it's also a brilliant camera/video phone

I have had the LG Viewty KU990 for almost 6 months now and there are a couple of things that could be improved on

(1) you have to be careful as the touchscreen can start to go at certain points. (because of this I had to replace my phone and I am not heavy handed). (2) if you are a mac user you cant sync very well.

Apart from that its a fabulous phone, I know that they say it's the poor mans equivalent of the iPhone but I would have to disagree as it's not only a fab phone it's also a brilliant camera/video phone.

Touchscreen is excellent, scrolling and the jog wheel is a bit fiddley

I do like the phone and think the touchscreen is excellent, scrolling and the jog wheel is a bit fiddley. Some of the instructions and software are not too user friendly, had problems getting the bluetooth working after pairing up to play music through my headset, but then again that maybe me being of limited mental ability.

Have had the phone about six months and have had to send it back under warranty for problems mentioned in previous reviews, first for the battery, after being on full charge then emptying again within 24 hours with little use, they sent me out a new phone which is now back with O2 because it keeps freezing and also turning itself off.

At the moment I,m using my wife's Sony K850i, the phone I also nearly got, I still prefer my Viewty just want it back working with no problems.

touch screen is tempremental

This phone is pretty decent, its got everything you need on there. The only thing about having a touch screen phone is that its tempremental. I have had the phone for about 7 months and already its playing up.

The phone switches itself off every now and again and I cant switch it back on until I take the battery out and re-load it in.

Sometimes, I have charged the phone over night and the next day, without no warning the phone says low battery and cuts off!

They have only just bought out a plastic cover for it which unfortunately, due to the phone being touch screen, doesnt protect the screen so I keep mine in a soft socky pouch that you get.

Overall the features arent too bad, but I have seen other phones with better features, it depends what you want really

I always get compliments with this phone

I bought the LG KU990 on an Orange contract. I have it in black but I wanted it in purple (I would get this one, my sister has it, much nicer)

At first I found it hard to text, yet there are so many ways so it's just trying to find the best way for you. I prefer it with the pen. I also had to get used to the scrolling which can be tricky to master, sometimes when you want to quick text, it's annoying.

The camera on this phone is great, instead of taking my camera and phone out on a night out all I need now is my phone, there are a number of ways to edit pictures too.

I always get compliments with this phone, so if your a stylish go for this phone.

The best feature is the camera with a good 5 mega pixels and image stabilizer - this has come in useful on a few occasions.

If your looking to upgrade your phone think about getting one of these!

Let down by poor design faults

I had wanted this phone since it first came out, but I have to say on receiving this phone, it was a real disappointment to me.

I previously had a Sony Walkman and feel that my old phone had far more capabilities than the Viewty.

The touchscreen is temperamental and texting is a complete nightmare, positioning of the buttons on the side was not well thought out either.

If you are a fast texter, forget this phone. As there is no physical keypad, there is no contingency if the touchscreen plays up.

I have had the phone for one week and it has already frozen on me 4 times.

All in all I feel this does not live up to the hype.

A real let down ;o(

If you txt a lot it is pretty painful

Great phone BUT if you txt a lot it is pretty painful although the writing stick is a useful tool but is not attached to the phone so why include it ?????

Saying that it looks cool and the touch screen is very reactive and you adapt pretty quickly to using it.

Exactly what I was looking for

Love my new LG Viewty mobile phone. The name is a bit odd but it was exactly what I was looking for. 4 for the usability because I still feel mobile phone manufacturers will eventually do even more with touch screen devices.

Great mobile.

THE LG VIEWTY IS GREAT! TOP MARKS!!!

Simply say wow what a phone. I never review stuff but this time I simply had to! Ive had my Viewty for about 1 week now and I really like it. I liked the lg prada mobile phone which had a touch screen as well but was put off by it being a prada and me being a lad. This phone is what I would call the unisex version but is much more. The features are even better now! I really do like this phone and can easily see this being the next big thing! THE LG VIEWTY IS GREAT! TOP MARKS!!!

LG Viewty KU990 Reviews

Mobile phones are constantly being updated in a constantly evolving industry with huge demands. Where camera phones go up by the megapixel on a monthly basis and the next big feature just around the corner, it certainly can be confusing finding the right mobile phone.

Most handsets now could be classed as 'smart phones' based on where mobile phones were a few years ago with the current crop of buzz words - 3G, HSPDA, megapixel, social networking, apps, A-GPS and more. Thats why reading impartial user reviews is the best way of deciding what phone to buy next!
