the phone regularly freezes or turns itself off and back on again

I currently have this phone and personally feel that it is the worst phone I have ever had. When writing a text the keys are too small so you press other keys and the phone regularly freezes or turns itself off and back on again. When ending a call you have to wait several seconds for the call to actually show as ended on the screen as it just freezes, I would advised anybody to not buy this phone.

Its a shame because I enjoyed using the phone

Well I am onto my second replacement hanset after numerous issues, the first deveolped its own mind and would switch itself off and on again for no reason whatsoever including when making calls. The second, I could not answer calls correctly, I would press the screen and nothing would happen, have to switch it off and back on again to get the screen to work, so I am waiting for Orange as they are sending out yet another.

Its a shame because I enjoyed using the phone, all they say is, I have ran a diagnostic and there is a fault, lets see what happens with number 3.

randomly ringing people when I receive a text message

I loved this phone when I got it last year but now I am having real problems with it. It keeps randomly ringing people when I receive a text message from them and I know its not me touching the screen as it will do it even if its sat on my desk and then it wont let me put the phone down - the only way I can stop the call is to take the battery out! Which is getting tiresome and also costing me a fortune as people's answer machines kick in by the time I manage to take the cover off and battery out. It also does this sometimes when I make outgoing calls and wont let me end them.

Going to try and sort the software out on it, if it doesnt help I will have to get a different phone as I don't want the same thing to happen again.

it looked so good and promised so much

I bought one of these 20 mins ago, havent even had the chance to put my contacts in and its restarted by itself. Then when it had rebooted, it froze for a bit then switched itself off. I turned it on again and its got halfway through the boot up cycle and completely froze, best thing to do is to avoid this one altogether. My is now boxed up again waiting to go back to the shop in the morning.

Gutted really, it looked so good and promised so much.

isn't as good as it looks, but it's still an ok phone

Pros, looks good, cons, isn't as good as it looks, but it's still an ok phone.

Camera can not really be called a 5 mp camera. Full settings and average photo size 1mb, choppy when viewed in full size. Music player is ok, but volume is only accessible when playing music from music widget. FM transmitter works well.

GPS is a nightmare to get working (still haven't managed to get it working yet) Google maps was working, but since updating the firmware, it can't connect to the net so is now useless.

QWERTY keyboard mode would be good if I was a small midget. Otherwise useless. Texting is ok but easy to press other buttons on the way. Much slower to text now than on my previous non-touch screen phone.

Browsing the net is too slow, browser rendering is slow, phone is overall sluggish. Battery life is ok if used for phone / text only. If playing music, taking photos/ videos, forget it. Won't last a day.

Video recorder is actually quite good, but slow processor means video suffers low frame rate on occasion.

Review claims 8 mb but internal memory is actually 8 Gb. This is good, haven't run out of room yet. Cannot watch youtube, cannot watch many videos. Cannot watch avi movies taken from my other camera.

It's an ok phone, but do your research and you will find something better. Don't get sucked in by the looks.

only downside to it is the fact that it regularly freezes and crashes

I love this phone, the design and features are very good and I can see that it would be a great phone to a wide range of users. The only downside to it is the fact that it regularly freezes and crashes. It also scratches and shows marks very easily which is a major disadvantage if I accidentally drop the phone.

This phone is an absolute nightmare

This phone is an absolute nightmare, it constantly freezes, I can never answer a call or hang a call up if I finally actually manage to make one. I cant send any text messages becuase the touch screen won't work, and adds in random letters that I have not pressed.

It crashes all the time, switches itself on and off and the list goes on, I can never get a signal with it either, I am on my third phone now which I have had for about 20 minutes and already it is starting to freeze up. This phone should be taken off the market.

touchscreen problems are killing my love to Arena

To David, you're completely wrong. I have Arena for 6 months. Had some crashes and sometimes screen was not working, but this was still acceptable.

Now, for 2-3 weeks, I cannot type a name, cannot write sms, can not find a person in my address book. Screen is not reacting or is reacting not in the right place. Assume that you're saving new contact, but instead of saving, phone is scroling down.

P.S. I've upgraded firmware, which fixes many bugs, like navigation problems, Wifi problems, but these touchscreen problems are killing my love to Arena.

Stop complaining, it's a good phone

Reading these reviews, it's hard not to assume most of the negative ones aren't by rival companies. I have this phone and there is nothing wrong with it, I've had it for 6 months. I had a few problems with USB in mass storage mode but LG released a fix recently. Stop complaining, it's a good phone.

it just went to answer phone, but I had reception

I got this phone in July, I am now on my 3rd one, got this on the 12th and already it has been playing up. After reading other reviews my phone has been doing just what everyone else has put. Today my new one did not even ring when a friend called, it just went to answer phone, but I had reception.

I am looking through the sales of goods act as I have stated to the Orange shop and to them on the phone that I do not want this phone as it is poor.

overpriced and under preformer

Awful piece of work, overpriced and under preformer, infact I'd say this has been the worst phone I've ever had and that just about sums up matters. I ended up getting another Nokia, the move I should have made from the start, it was my house content insurance who provided this awful Arena for a N95 8GB which I'd claimed for. The LG is way overpriced and poor for texting as its touchscreen is hopeless.

started crashing and restarting itself

I got one of these from T-Mobile, it started crashing and restarting itself and would also lose signal so I couldnt ring out although it said it has full signal.

I sent it for repair and got it back around a week later and it was still doing it so I rang back up and they exchanged it for a new one. I received this the next day and within 4 hours I couldnt receive or make calls or texts and the screen kept crashing.

They have now replaced it with a Nokia 5800 they didnt even give me a choice of what phone and I have since found out the Nokia is only £25 a month where as the Arena was £35 so they should have replaced it with a better phone. So today I managed to argue for £10 off my bill

I loved the phone for the first couple of weeks

I got my LG Arena 5 months ago from T-Mobile. I loved the phone for the first couple of weeks, but since then I have had to send it off for repair 3 times, which means I have physically had the phone for about a month.

They have replaced the camera, replaced the cover and replaced the main board. I got the phone back a few days ago and within 10 minutes it had turned itself off.

I charged it back up and the phone got incredibly hot. It also continued to stay hot for the next few hours it was on, then it stwitched itself off for good.

I took it back AGAIN and it has been sent off as an escalated case (yeah right) I know they will offer me a replacement phone but to be honest I have no faith in this model or make and dont know what I can do about it. I am so sick of this phone and its problems argh.

looks great and is so light but its usability is quite disappointing

This phone looks great and is so light but its usability is quite disappointing, especially compared to previous LG models.

The music player is like it was an after thought and just bodged together, the touchscreen is harder to use than any other I've used- you have to be holding the phone and using your fingertips not your nails and is not pen compatible and although there is a function to move the curser around your text its practically impossible to get in the right place.

I've thoroughly had enough of mine after only a few months.

did software upgrade seems even worse now

Phone exchanged after a few days, new one ok for about a week then freezes, turns itself off and on, when some one calls unable to answer as nothing shown on screen. Turn on camera this then turns itself off, etc etc did software upgrade seems even worse now, only goes to lg welcome screen and no further.

In the last 20 years of mobile phone ownership this is the most un-reliable phone I have owned. I have had to carry a spare phone with me since the end of June now going to LG repair center, good job I kept my old Sony Ericsson phone.

would like to change the pictures behind the homescreens but overall I love it

I love the phone, the design and interface is beautiful and it has so many good features. It has a couple of bugs, like the screen begins to flicker after a while and I would like to change the pictures behind the homescreens but overall I love it, although when it randmly has no signal that gets annoying.

When this phone works it works well and I love it

Purchased the Arena and had to return it within the first week, losing signal and having to remove battery to make a call. Not a problem the handset was replaced as it was less than a week old.

After 3 months of enjoying the handset it started to freeze and crash!! Spent time on phone trying to rectify the problem. Unable to recieve or send messages or calls! However the web still worked fine????

Battery use time decreasing each charge, handset getting rather hot!! Waiting to see if LG can repair or replace the handset!! When this phone works it works well and I love it. However when it goes wrong it's bad.

take it back to the service centre and get them to repair

I had my LG Arena for less than 6 months and sent for repair 3 times. Problems like it turned off by itself when you use an application, touchscreen not working seems like a common problem for this phone.

It looks nice on the outside, but I certainly think LG needs to improve its S-Class User Interface software which seems to be unstable. Guys, if you were having problems like mine, no point keep on removing the batteries, take it back to the service centre and get them to repair as the problem will continue to persist and it just continues to annoy.

the lag on the camera shutter is a bit of a pain

I love the concept of this phone, and when it works its great. Though the lag on the camera shutter is a bit of a pain. So far the phone has crashed 3 times, and only removing the battery fixes it. It calls people when I am not around and regularly hangs up for periods of time. Not sure what to do about it, am looking at my options.

I find it quite difficult to text on either keyboard

It looks lovely, has great features and a fab camera... but the battery life seems poor, having to recharge the phone every night which is ridiculous for a modern phone. I find it quite difficult to text on either keyboard (qwerty or normal).

When I have incoming calls the caller id doesnt come up on the screen for 3 or 4 rings which is also very frustrating, I have only had the phone for 4 days and already its starting freezing when I'm texting or using an app. I loved my first LG, and feel let down with this one.

I have found myself having to recharge the battery nearly everyday

This is a fantastic phone with plenty of features and applications. The video camera in particular provides pictures of high quality and bright colours. One of the only downsides to this particular phone is the battery life. I have found myself having to recharge the battery nearly everyday which simply is not good enough for a modern phone.

Serious software problems LG won't fix

The Arena has serious software problems and LG wont repair it for me because I lost receipt even tho the phone has only been on sale 2 months.

Im not happy with LG. This phone is now of no use to me. Its frozen on the start up screen wont turn off unless I remove battery.

LG don't seem to care about it.

Anyone else had this problem?

Since I've had this phone it's been in for repair twice, touch screen faulty. Anyone else had this problem? Now I'm stuck without the phone I wanted while its being repaired again. Great phone, I like the features, easy to program from my computer but not a lot of use if I have to take it back to the shop every couple of weeks.

for me very laggy and crashes frequently

Nice phone with lots of great features but for me very laggy and crashes frequently. I have also found that using the internet on this phone is a nightmare as I have to zoom in to be able to see the text and select options.

This could have been a great phone but these 3 big problems as well as serveral minor ones make this phone unreliable and awkward for me - it's also left me with two days of banging my head against the wall.... it's going back!

I love using my phone to shoot fun videos and this phone is very good for that. Wi-Fi connectivity make this phone is one of the best. All I can say is wow what a phone!

aesthetically pleasing and easy to use, but disapointed with the camera

The Arena is aesthetically pleasing and easy to use but will only recognise the touch of your finger tip (or skin in general) so not easy to use if you have nails (real or false!).

Also I find the camera is the worst I have ever seen on a phone, the shutter does not close quick enough regardless of the ISO setting you have chosen so when trying to take a nice picture of my 1 year old niece it always comes out blurry.

I tried the Sony Ericsson C905 which I didn't really like but compared to the Arena I wish I had kept it and just got used to it as now I am stuck with this phone for the next 18 months. Not happy.

Great product in design terms, fab features

Great product in design terms, fab features. Handy size, nice and slim. But the battery life is absolutely useless - my new Arena goes flat in about 3 hours of light use. It takes ages to charge up again also. It's poor for multi-media use when the battery isn't up to it.

all of the features and useability that you need in a touchscreen phone

Forget the iPhone! The Arena has all of the features and useability that you need in a touchscreen phone and no gadgety applications to download either. The user interface takes a little gettingused to, not a 2 -D interface but a three dimensional cube of symbols to choose from, but the media ability and massive 8gb memory holds all of the sounds and video you want to take around with it. Love it!
