The HTC Touch Diamond is a fashionable touch screen phone which is powered by the new Windows Mobile 6.1 operating system. The handset is small and compact measuring at 102mm in height and 51mm in width, making it easy to hold and carry. The touch screen is 2.8 inch in size with a TFT-LCD screen and full VGA resolution. The HTC Diamond offers a great online experience with an ultra fast HSDPA Connection. Other features include a 3.2 megapixel camera, VGA camera for video calls, built in GPS, FM radio and an impressive TouchFLO 3D interface system.

excellent for a work phone and seems to be durable
I dont own the handset my parter does but after playing around with it, its a good phone. The Windows Mobile 6.1 is better than previous versions of Windows Mobile that I have used before.
I only marked a 3 for usability due to the fact that the phones touchscreen at times is not that responsive and to often the stylus is needed. The phone has a 3.2 camera and takes nice sharp images, sadly there is no flash. I also like the in built memory that comes with this phone but it is a big dissapointment that you cannot expand on this memory due to there been no slot for a memory card.
There is also not the possibility of using your own earphones with this handset and the earphones that come with the phone are pretty standard. I also think that the battery cover with it's Diamond design is just a little bit girly.
The HTC Touch HD has just been released and I am going to go with that, yet it does not have the same memory as the Diamond it does give us the option to expand, it also has a 5 megapixel camera (still no flash) it has a standard earphone audio jack (finally able to choose your own earphones not limited to what comes with the phone)
HTC have also claimed that they have worked out the errors of the touch screen and on this handset it will be much more responsive.
But to narrow all this down and get back on to the Diamond it's a nice phone, nice design for a girl, has many good features, excellent for a work phone and seems to be durable.
The iPhone is "nothing" compared to the HTC Touch Diamond
What can I say? The iPhone is "nothing" compared to this. The features are just incredible. Touch screen, accelerometer, the size, camera, battery life, operating system, all superb. The communications are great as well. Wifi, bluetooth, WSPDA, 3G and that funny network type that lets you make voice calls.
The interface is great. I know what you're saying, it is Windows mobile, how can it be great? Trust me, it is. HTC took Windows Mobile then set about ripping it apart and putting it back together, except in the correct order this time.
Everything is quick, smooth and easy to use. Pretty much everything can be navigated around using fingers, not the stylus. While I'm on the subject, very nice to see a stylus too. The main menu has a cover-flo type system to go through contacts, texts, emails, photos and music.
HTC have even built touch-screen keyboards that work with fingers (their qwerty is better than iPhone in my opinion). They have a full qwerty, a 20key qwerty (two letters per key) and a standard 1-9 keypad. Also, their is the transcriber and block letter recogniser facilities. Lastly, for those who still use shorthand, it will accept custom shorthand. The screen in responsive, just like the new Blackberry also.
The phone is beautiful to handle. The thickness of a pen, the width of a credit card and 1cm longer than a credit card. The faceted back is beautiful. The phone weighs next to nothing as well.
The phone was specifically designed to be usable with only one hand and I actually find the qwerty easier to use with one, than using two fingers.
The communication is great, email is a piece of cake. Push email, automatic retrieval of provider settings, automatic seamless sync with Outlook, you name it. Calling is easy. There is a very nice feature where it vibrates once the phone is picked up at the other end. The emails are also previewed in the menu.
Battery life, with WiFi off and emails retreived every 10mins is a day. With WiFi on, 2/3rds of a day. This isn't particularly good but not too bad compared to iPhone. The screen automatically dims and brightens depending on the ambient light to save battery.
Multimedia is great. Photos are viewed with ease. Rotation is automatic (with the accelerometer). Zooming is with the click-wheel. Movies are played either on Windows Media player or on HTC's own system. There is a separate YouTube application (not the crap one that YouTube make but an HTC made one).
Internet: Opera made a browser specifically for the HTC Diamond. It is customised with clickwheel zooming, finger flick scrolling and auto-rotation again. Java is supported.
The hardware buttons on the device are all tactile (except the clickwheel). There is no need to ever use buttons though.
Overall, a smashing piece of kit. It is easily unlocked with software that can be bought for a quid on eBay too.
excellent, and definitely beats the new iPhone hands down
This phone is excellent, and definitely beats the new iPhone hands down. It is available on a range of tariffs, and they are all quite reasonable, so you can get it, and can choose the network as well.
The features are excellent with everything you could possibly need from a PDA as well as an easy to use phone. Microsoft have done it again, this is the best Windows based phone I have had, and it comes with Mobile Office as well.
