The HTC Hero has a similar design to the HTC Magic and is the third device running on the Android operating system. The user interface, called HTC Sense is a selling feature to this stunning handset. You can personalise the phone and 7 home screens to suit your business and personal needs. The TFT 3.2 inch touchscreen with multi touch input makes it easy to use and there is also support for handwriting recognition. It comes with 512MB of internal memory plus an option for further storage using a Micros SD card up to 16GB in size. The HTC Hero also features a 5 megapixel camera with auto focus, media player, GPS, instant messaging, video recorder and much more.

UsabilityThis phone is the best one I have ever had
This phone is the best one I have ever had. It has 5 individual screens which you can personalise to suit, the marketplace is exceptional. You have thousands of games and apps that you can download for free, some do charge but to date I haven't bought any. Only negative is that bluetooth doesn't work, just waiting on the new software update being released and hopefully that should solve the problem. Don't know how I managed before I got this phone.

The touchscreen is slow to respond and text messages can take a long time whilst you wait for the letter to be typed. Internet browsing is fantastic however the quality of the 5mp camera lens lets the handset down. Battery life is excellent and accommodates my heavy usage well.

What a phone, easy to use, fast internet access, great apps, massive storage, quick to charge but a camera with no flash! You have got to be serious, how can you take a decent picture without a flash? The answer is you can't and that is where the phone let's itself down.
After making an excellent Android market they forget to also make sure that Bluetooth works, which was a big mistake because yet again it failed just like the G1. Other than the petty things I have picked up on the phone is actually one of the best I have came across in the current market, and yes it is better than the iPhone!

Fantastic user interface, great design, wonderful touchscreen and multi-touch just like the iPhone. Everything on the Hero can be customized - if you want to, not that you need to. There's an app for everything in the apps market, and mostly for free. Forget the iPhone - hold out for a Hero!

Great looking and great to use, just one thing let it down badly, I could not get a decent signal with it and Orange coverage in my area is excellent on other phones so had to send it back for replacement and that was the same as well so sent that back too.
A real shame as I thought it was a great phone at first but a phone is no good if it cant do the basic thing of making calls and texts, I think the antenna is made of wood.

Described as the king of Andriod. The HTC Hero is quite literally. Since the recent update, the phone has become even better. A smoother and less frustrating touchscreen experience. The brilliant intergration with mail, contacts, facebook etc. Makes the phone one of the best and most intuitive smart phones made.

I'm a big fan of this phone, having used it for a couple of months. However, as I found out, the longer I left my messages to collect in my inbox the longer it took to delete the thread and as I had two thousand texts on one thread. It was near impossible to delete it.
Sadly I ended up having to factory reset my phone, an extreme pain as I had to begin everything again and lost my apps and information stored in them, as I could no find a way to delete it without crashing my phone. Pretty poor. Otherwise I am satisfied with it and would recommend it, just delete your texts frequently.

Could not recommend this phone enough! Really good predictive text service which can sometimes be abit tricky on touch screen mobiles. Applications available on the market are fantastic, and normally free. Very easy to use, and does not take long to get find all the different applications.

The HTC Hero is a brilliant handset that easily rivals the Apple iPhone. It possibly is better than the iPhone!
I have only had the phone a few days, but already i am fluent in using it, and found it really easy to set up and find my way around.
I am sure that there will be a multitude of applications for it soon as well, which will again match the iPhone market as well.
It has the ability to do everything the iPhone does, and in my opinion, is better than the iPhone, and will surely be soon the main rival to it.
If you dont want an O2 contract, then get this phone.
Overall Design Features UsabilityReal touch of quality but few annoyances
The HTC Hero is sharp in design and has a real touch of quality but my main gripe is I can't access the SD micro card direct. I can see how much memory is left but thats it.
I cant see a way of putting diary notes on its home screen which is something I live by. Also it would have been nice to have the phone as a window mobile.
I am aware HTC make a lot of other windows mobile phones but to me its 1 of 2 things that let it down.
