HTC Desire Reviews

The HTC Desire is designed around the Google Nexus One - a smart handset which runs on Android 2.1 OS and powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 1GHz processor delivering super-fast web browsing. Sporting a 3.7 inch AMOLED touchscreen display with multi touch support, optical trackpad combined with HTC Sense this handset is a joy to use. The HTC Desire offers multimedia applications while on the move. Capture images on the 5.0 megapixel camera, watch videos and listen to your favourite tracks on the MP3 player and FM radio - plus plenty of room to store your media on a microSD memory card. Stay in contact with friends and family plus share your videos and photos via your social networking sites. Bluetooth 2.1, Mobile Broadband, WiFi, 3G, EDGE and GPRS are all included.
Thousands of apps make this just as good as the iphone
I bought my HTC and was very excited by the way it looks, not much bigger than the iphone. Many people have asked me if it is infact an iphone.
The multiscreen display is great, having the widgets on the home screen makes it very attractive, especially the weather widget with the animated sunshine, rain etc.
Thousands of apps make this just as good as the iphone, and personally, with the easier texting function I actually would buy this phone over the iphone!
It will freeze then display an error message
Love the HTC desire, however I have had mine for less than three months and it is starting to slow down. It will freeze then display an error message where I can either 'force close' or 'wait'.
I am forever being cut off during phone calls where I have excellent reception one minute (in town) then limited service and all applications freeze. Photos in phone book disappear then reappear. I am currently attempting to download the update off the internet however with the phone difficulties I cannot sync with my PC. Very frustrated as phone had been fantastic.
The super bright screen makes everything crystal clear
The phone is very fast, it has a great processor which handles common day to day tasks, as well as demanding tasks such as games very well. It's large screen also makes gaming, testing and general usability a breeze.
It's design and smooth rubber back gives this phone a really nice modern feel to it and feels nice in your hand. The super bright screen makes everything crystal clear even in sunlight. Sometimes the phone can unlock itself in your pocket which can be a little annoying, but in its case it does not happen too often.
a great all round user experience
Simply a great phone. As a techy the rich user interface, colors, Google navigation give it a great all round user experience.
The only downside I have found with this phone is the reduced battery life when using it regularly although it is on a par with my brothers iphone so can't be to hard on it for that. I have noticed that the phone sometimes lags when using it if on charge. Even with these two minor concerns I recommend it to anyone who wants a smart phone.
Pictures taken with the 5mp camera are sharp and clear
When looking for a phone it was a choice between the Desire and iPhone. So glad I got this as it is so easily customisable with its 7 home screens.
Response times are very quick and internet pages load up in an instant. Style of phone is good and is so easy to handle. Pictures taken with the 5mp camera are sharp and clear. Hundreds of apps available on the Android store with many of them costing nothing.
the touch screen is extremely responsive
I was really looking forward to getting this phone, but having done so I'm a bit disappointed.
It's good points are; Fab Screen, fast web browsing, lots of Fun Apps.
Bad Points are; not always very intuitive, screen outside in bright light is un-readable, can be frustrating for tasks like email & calendar. Poor battery life if using all the features.
I use this as a work phone. Previously I had a Blackberry curve 8310. This phone had fantastic integration with MS Outlook and allowed reading of emails, marking items as read/unrewad, and very good integration with the Outlook calendar.
The Desire is not as good. Emails do sync with MS outlook, but are a little slower to do so. However the worst aspect is the calendar integration. With the HTC, if you have several calendar items/reminders on a day, you can only choose to dismiss ALL of them or none of them - you cannot dismiss a single item. I have also found no obvious way of amending an existing calendar, although you can add new items.
The phone itself is an object of desire - all week i've found myself touching/holding/feelng it. The casing is silky smooth and gorgeously thin plus the touch screen is extremely responsive. The way items scroll/slide & move on screen is a joy to behold.
The battery is disappointing. It will last a day with judicious use, but the days of charging on Sunday & topping up on Wed/Thur (as I did with my Blackberry) are a thing of the past - you MUST top this up every day.
Overall the applications you can run are wide ranging and can be fun; The tube-times and train-times apps will be useful.
An amazing piece of technology with some great apps - serious iPhone rival, but not sure it's the best phone/email tool - if all you want is to be able to work, you may be better off with a Blackberry.
features are really easy to use
Just to let you all know, this is the most fantastic phone I have ever had!
The positives are; easy music downlowd, great apps, large memory capacity, internet access is fab and the features are really easy to use. Even the touch screen keyboard, which magically seems to know what you want to type. Also a great plus if you're into social networking, as it streams all your facebook/myspace/twitter contacts into one list.
The one downside I can think of is that as it is a touch screen, I called a lot of people by accident when I first got it, however once you are more used to the phone, this is easily avoided.
Phones use is very good and after a bit of playing is very easy to use
The Desire has only 140mb storage, not 512 as stated on HTC website and T-mobile spec. Apps store on internal memory only, option not on mobile to put apps on SD card, after only 15 apps only got 75mb left!
Video recorder audio is .amr type only, poor audio on recorded sound, pre fixed sound types only for text sms/MMS only (unable to add .mp3 type to text or mms)
Issues raised with HTC. Phone is labelled as configure it your way, with the issues I've found it unfortunately means I can't! Phones use is very good and after a bit of playing is very easy to use, processor is rapid!
Overall experience is very good, new phone and few issues. Supplied SD card from T-mobile is 4gb, not 8gb as shown on HTC site! Battery at 1400mah is too small, power runs out fast if viewing a lot of internet.
Buy it but beware of the issues at present!

Mobile phones are constantly being updated in a constantly evolving industry with huge demands. Where camera phones go up by the megapixel on a monthly basis and the next big feature just around the corner, it certainly can be confusing finding the right mobile phone.
Most handsets now could be classed as 'smart phones' based on where mobile phones were a few years ago with the current crop of buzz words - 3G, HSPDA, megapixel, social networking, apps, A-GPS and more. Thats why reading impartial user reviews is the best way of deciding what phone to buy next!
