Blackberry Storm Reviews

The Blackberry Storm 9500 (also known as the 9530 & Thunder). This is the first Blackberry with a touchscreen interface, featuring a 3.25" hi-res crystal clear screen. Radio and MP3 Player, 3G Internet and Email access, built in GPS. On the camera front a much improved 3.2 megapixel camera with flash and digital zoom. 1GB of memory expandable to 16GB with memory card. Email on the move and sync with accounts such as Gmail, Yahoo, AOL and live chat via MSN and Yahoo, open documents in Office platforms such as Word, Excel and Powerpoint. The Blackberry Storm, take your office with you.
used to be an avid texter but am unable to use the keyboard
I absolutely hate this phone, I used to be an avid texter but am unable to use the keyboard, I end up sending randomly spelt messages, my friends and family have to decipher what I write. I cant wait for my contract to end so I can get another phone. The signal is poor and the phone keeps cutting off, whether this is the Vodafone network or the phone, I am not sure.
Battery length on the Blackberry is average and poor
The typing takes some getting used to but overall it is very user friendly. Its main competitor the iPhone is much more advanced app wise but each has its own advantages. Battery length on the Blackberry is average and poor when used frequently, there is also the issue of the gprs and 3G services, which as you may have noticed does not include wi-fi, this may be solved with the Storm 2 but yet again it puts the iPhone ahead. Overall I would purchase the iPhone over the Blackberry.
I have finally got one that works properly
After a few 'updated models' I have finally got one that works properly. There is no end to the amount of add ons you can get for the phone. Battery life is really good and internet is quick, but it takes a while for the phone to boot up when you first turn it on. I use it as a business phone and would definitely recommend anyone to try them out.
nice features, but poor battery
I have owned 2 Blackberry's before owning the Blackberry Storm. When I first bought the phone I fell in love with the look of it and loved that you could turn it on its side to use aswell and the screen moved with it. I charged my new phone for the recommended time and then started to use it.
Once I had started to use it, downloading songs, looking at the various apps avaliable etc, I noticed how quickly the battery had gone down. At the time I thought it was because of the amount of time I was using it( although I was only using it as much as my other Blackberry's!!) That night I charged my phone, the next morning within 2 hours my phones battery was completly dead.
I did not expect this from a Blackberry as they are suppposed to be one of the better phone makes on the market. Eversince then my phone has never worked properly and although I have sent my phone for repair on 2 occasions, both times I have been told many people find fault with the battery and its just the phone!
If it wasnt for the poor battery this phone has all the features of a great phone, great camera, sat-nav, app stores, music player etc!! The battery really is the downfall and many people think so.
not a phone I would recommend to some one that is inpatient
The Blackberry Storm looks very smart and is great to start of with but after 3 months of having this phone I had sent it of 4 times and had a new one, I still get problems like snowy screen, cutting out on the phone, phone saying call failed when trying to call people.
The phone is very good if you are going to use it to access the internet and your emails. This is not a phone I would recommend to some one that is inpatient because its can run a bit slow at times.
usability as an actual phone isn't the best
The phone looks great and has many features, which can be added too via the Blackberry application store. It works well as a music player and the camera is quite good. For internet and email use it is ideal.
However I've found it can be a little slow. The battery life is short, and it's usability as an actual phone isn't the best.
business person with the hectic schedule will appreciate the email facility
The e-mail setup is very easy, I have four different emails coming to my phone as well as my pc. The phone has a touch screen interface which to navigation around the phones numerous applications.
The Storm has 1gb of device memory and allows for a sd micro card of up to 16bg to be installed giving you plenty of memory. The camera is a 3.2mp and has a crystal clear picture. The Storm also has numerous different data entry methods, this is down to the fact that the phone can be used vertically or horizontally.
The business person with the hectic schedule will appreciate the email facility on this phone as its unmatched.
quite cumbersome to use especially texting
It is quite cumbersome to use especially texting. Recently also the speaker stopped working after months of use so I question the reliability of this model. The picture quality is great and the memory is fantastic. On the whole its not bad.
I find it very slow and the clicking etc is not very responsive
I have had the Storm now for a good few months and to be honest I am gutted I didn't go for the iPhone. I find it very slow and the clicking etc is not very responsive. The email function is good though, I have 8 email accounts running on it which is good for my online businesses.
The videos on the phone are rubbish, 9 times out of 10 when I record a clip it won't play them saying unrecognised format, I am running latest firmware but still the same problems exist.
After playing with an iPhone these last few days, in my opinion the iPhone beats the Blackberry Storm by a long way.
afraid its not all happy happy with the BlackBerry Storm
The BlackBerry Storm may look complicated to use but I will assure you its as easy as using a Nokia! What I like about the Storm is unlike most touch screen phones, this one you have to press down on the screen to select an item, therefore there is little chance of you phoning Africa by accident!!
But I'm afraid its not all happy happy with the BlackBerry Storm :-(( It can be a bit slow at times. Also when you sign up to your email on it, it seems to slow down the sign in to your email on a normal computer, but I can live with that!
The design of the BlackBerry Storm is quite slim but wide, it does feel a bit heavy but I usually notice that after holding someone elses phone. I am also surprised at how robust these phones are! I have dropped mine a few times now and not one scratch!
Once used to its great - charging it alot though
Takes a while to get the hang of the Blackberry Storm but once you get familiar its great. Lovely big screen and takes good photos.
Three different keyboards to choose from. A very nice slim device that fits easily into your pocket and comes with a lovely leather case that the phone should be kept in to keep battery alive.
Not a particularly long battery life though, find myself charging the battery more that I did with my Nokia N95.
Easy to find accessories online and in store. Comes with charger but you have to buy a car charger.
bit chunky compared to my previous Blackberry Curve
This phone is a little difficult to use at first, but once you get used to it it's a really great little gadget to have.
Pros, looks great - very sleek, unique touch screen, easy to use functions, access to Youtube.
Cons, landscape to portrait switch is a little delicate, bit chunky compared to my previous Blackberry Curve.
this is something you get used to as you use it
A good phone - only slight problems with it hanging, but generally a good phone, with lots of options.
It does suffer from not being the smallest, but this is something you get used to as you use it.
Battery life is poor, but you can get better life batteries.
I'm a bit disappointed that I've got to spend out on things
The Blackberry Storm works well as a phone but you're probably going to be more interested in its other smartphone functions.
The Browser works well as long as you have a decent mobile signal (no Wi-fi). If you use its Sat-Nav capabilities then you'll need to get a car charger or the full colour touch screen will drain the battery halfway through your journey; the screen itself takes a little bit of getting use to but works well but once you've got the hang of it you can bash out an e-mail with ease.
Two Black marks which go against its usability:
1. The Storm only links with my i-Mac via Bluetooth which makes transferring files a chore
2. The Blackberry headphones hurt my ears so I've got to buy a new set of headphones.
All in all I'm loving my new Storm but I'm a bit disappointed that I've got to spend out on things like a car charger & mount, memory card & reader and headphones to get all the use out of it that I want to.
not possible to sync from a non-Blackberry phone to a Blackberry one
Very good phone overall. However there are a few minor things. Due to security measures, its not possible to sync from a non-Blackberry phone to a Blackberry one. As its a touch-screen phone, its not possible to buy a leather case to fully protect it (especially the screen) so you need to be careful not to drop it.
you have to push the screen to get a function to work which can be frustrating
I bought the Blackberry Storm just before christmas after having the iPhone for over a year.
I prefer the sytle of the Storm compared to the iPhone. The Storm was so easy to learn to use with a bright/clear screen however its touch screen...
When they described the phone as touchscreen I just expected to tap the screen, however you have to actually push the screen to get a function to work which can be frustrating while trying to send a text message quickly.
Overall its a stylish phone with great sound and the camera is also so much clearer than the iPhone. The internet is fast but you cant always access the full websites sometimes.
really attractive phone that unfortunately flatters to deceive
A really attractive phone that unfortunately flatters to deceive.. Nice design but usability and adaptability is difficult.. not really helped by a keyboard that is not user friendly.. It is one of a kind though and I would not rule out an improved version soon.
Far too many useless features make the phone annoying and slow
The phone is wonderful to look at and feel, but unless you are a businessman then this phone is pointless. Far too many useless features make the phone annoying and slow. If you have not had a touch screen before then do not choose this one for your first one.
The feel of the screen at first is a new experience, but once the novelty wears off, then theres too much left to keep playing with. Sending a text message is a joke and very long winded and simple tasks like looking at your call log takes forever, not a good choice in my opinion.
takes a while to get used to but once you are, it is really good
The Blackberry Storm is a fun phone, ideal for those people addicted to internet items such as Facebook, you can keep up to date with automatic updates sent straight to your phone. The phone can be slightly slow at times and does take a while to get used to but once you are used to it is really good.
excited to get the new Blackberry Storm but it fell very short of expectations
Was so excited to get the new Blackberry Storm but it fell very short of expectations. The touch screen is so frustrating to use, you would need the fingers of a 4 year old to manage it and unfortunately my fingers are a bit bigger than that so I spend alot of time trying to write emails on it, I usually give up and use my pc.
I've never had a Blackberry so being able to have instant emails is great, it was the main reason I got one just wish it was easier to reply. I like the camera, the picture quality is great and the sat nav and google maps applications are brilliant, really useful for me.
The battery life is appalling. I don't even get the full day out of it. Overall it dosen't quite make the mark for me but I'm hoping I'll get more used to it and find it easier to use
Well done Blackberry for an award winning model once more
As someone who is in the mobile phone selling market myself, I have to say that it is very difficult to find a mobile that really impresses me. When it comes to great gizmos and the hottest new gadgets, I've seen 'em all. Things I look for in a great all-round mobile phone are the following:
Great design, not too bulky, but also with a keypad that you can actually type on quite comfortably. Features; I want to be able to check my emails quite often as I have a busy lifestyle and also I'm an internet junkie - especially Facebook. That's why I instantly knew the Blackberry storm was for me. It's second to none for these two things, and I guarantee as soon as you get one there will be a handful of other people getting them in the office too.
These are great little phones, easy to use, compact and stylish - Well done Blackberry for an award winning model once more.
love the feel of the new Blackberry Storm
I love the feel of the new Blackberry Storm, the touchscreen is great, easy to use, the keyboard is well designed and the way it changes depending on the way in which you prefer to hold the phone is ideal, excellent sound quality. Some downsides are that you have no WIFI, games cannot be downloaded from the Vodafone Live website either.
