started locking up and the updates dont seem to help
I have had my iPhone a few months now and now its started locking up and the updates dont seem to help. I'm a little bored of not having the video facility, once the novelty wears off its the same as any other mobile and it doesnt sent picture messages which is standard on most phones these days
deliberately hobbled the first iPhone to pave the way for upgrades
Apple's first entry into the mobile phone market is certainly a head turner. Like most Apple devices, it is instantly recognisable, and stands out from its competitors. So it's a looker, but does it have the brains to go with the aesthetics?
Well, it's difficult to fault the usability. Even if you have never used an Apple device before, the interface is clean, easily understood, attractive and responsive.
However, my big gripe does not concern what is included, but more what has been left out. A cynic might suggest that, with one eye on the next model and an already bulging sack of cash, Apple have deliberately hobbled the first iPhone to pave the way for upgrades.
You want this to replace your iPod and phone? With a pitifully small storage compared to it's now doddery relative, the Video iPod, most likely a painful downgrade awaits. If you've got a new 3G phone or PDA, you'll be sacrificing connectivity and versatility for style. You will also, in all probability, be giving up a decent camera for one whose resolution would cause acute embarrassment and uneasy floor-gazing amongst the mobile class of 2006.
It's difficult not to like the iPhone, but I can't help but feel it's an almost scandalous missed opportunity. Perhaps deliberately so. Fleece the early adopters (they're guaranteed to buy the next model as soon as it hits the shelves anyway) and drip feed the features. A real shame, but in terms of functionality, as it's hard to recommend it against PDA phones, or even the sort of mobiles that share its price band. Having laid down so many notes, I expect more. I expect Apple to pack in all the technology available to them, and make the best phone they possibly can, not to hobble the device, in the name of squeezing every last cent out of their customers.
If style is more important than substance, maybe this is the phone for you, but for those demanding more than just a pretty face, or a replacement for several digital devices (camera, ipod, phone, pda), keep walking. There's nothing to see here.
nothing else out there as a phone experience
Apple's first phone stormed the market with pre-orders selling out and people swapping networks just to get hold of one. This phone is definitely a style icon - instantly recognizable and becoming a much copied look in the same way the original iPod was all those years ago.
The phone is lovely to look at and hold - the interface is familiar to Apple users and not too hard to understand as a newbie either. The slick animations and rotations between programs are lovely to behold and so smooth - this phone is really like nothing else out there as a phone experience
The phone has loads of great features with its wi-fi internet browsing and iPod / iTunes intergration - all the usual software you expect to find on a mac and a proper web browser - no more wap and .mob sites this phone has a almost complete version of Safari.
Javascript and flash are not fully supported for fears of virus' but other than that this is the whole web - it is annoying that it doesn't support these things but it is still a world better than previous mobile web experiences.
So - those are the good points - the bad points are also apparent. This hasn't got 3G - luckily Apple has since seen the light and brought out a new version - if you want to browse the web (and live in London or a major city of some kind) 3G is the way to go - anything else is far too slow. The speeds shown on the tv adverts are wi-fi connection ones.
The second gripe... The new sensitive screen technology uses soft touch - lovely - as long as I cut my nails off as a hard point of a girlie nail wont operate this screen.
And lastly... I hate propriety software and leads... and Apple almost always use both - you have to be prepared to buy into not just the phone - but Apple iTunes and other software as well to get the full use of this - for most people that isnt a problem but for me it was a turnoff - I dont want to use iTunes and it was a pain to have to install it and load things via it just for use on the phone - whats wrong with drag and drop?
But these are me - if you love Apple or have a mac and dont have really long girlie nails this is a lovely phone - I would suggest holding out and saving up for the 3G one if you fancy internet usage but there are plenty of wi-fi hotspots in the city if that isnt your main priority.
There is also a load of cool software, games and general stuff being made for this phone which add to the fun - the tilting beer game is a must have (it uses the phones amazing tilt detection to allow you to pretend to drink a beer by holding the phone up - hard to explain but its great and provides hours of pleasure at the local pub.
great except for the fact that you cannot forward texts
Excellent phone, great features and easy to use. This phone is great except for the fact that you cannot forward texts and the reception is poor. (network or area issue maybe?)
Other than the poor reception the features on the phone are easy to use and the fact that the phone has a built in iPod makes it even better. The camera on the phone is only 2.0 megapixels but I didn't get the iPhone for the camera.
The 3G version of the iPhone has a plastic back and that has improved the poor phone reception and call dropout.
camera is not that good but I think everything else makes up for it
A really cool mobile phone, lots to do, its fun and stylish, free internet access where you can download things to your iPhone and make it even more stylish.
The touch phone is great, better than typing in letters, the internet is fast and reliable and you can get plenty of cool asscesories for it. The camera is not that good but I think everything else about this phone makes up for it.
sleek and fashionable and the internet is absolutley free with a contract
I love the Apple iPhone and I think it clearly shows that the technology industry is developing fast. This phone can do so much and the applications are so useful. Just today I have used the ebay application and have searched the weather as well as being obsessed with solitaire.
The phone is also sleek and fashionable and the internet is absolutley free with a contract. The only downside that I would give Apple would be how early they released the new apple 3G after they release the orginal iPhone.
what more could you possibly want
What an amazing phone, you simply cannot beat the iPhone, well except for the iPhone 3G. The iPhone rocks, amazing facilities, check the weather, check the shares, chat to your friends, immaculate call quality, what more could you possibly want,
The best mobile phone designed ever
The best thing ever to be designed, has the odd crash but not anything like my previous reign of XDA's, I no longer have to reboot a couple of times a day.
Added to this... I now actually use the internet on it all the time.
Still has a couple of short comings with regard to sending texts to multiple people and bluetooth being limited and the big thing with mms but the rest of the phones abilities far outway those handicaps.
The only disappointment is the 2.0 megapixel camera
In my opinion this is the best mobile phone on the market at the moment. The only disappointment is the 2.0 megapixel camera which fails to compete with other phones of the same calibre. Despite this I still believe it is the best phone out at the moment, the music player is the best around, internet access is very good and it still looks the bomb with an easy to use touch screen.
Revolutionised my life, would not be with out it now
I have had my iPhone for 3 weeks now and it has revolutionised my life. Being able to access emails so easily including all of my email folders etc is so useful, and it is easy to view web pages using the zoom functions. Once you get used to the touch screen it is fairly easy to use. I would not be with out it now.
There is just too much to take in with this phone, its brilliant
Where to start? The design? The fact that its an iPod and a phone? The brilliant web browsing abilities? There is just too much to take in with this phone!
It sits comfortably in your hand, and the multi-touch screen works a real treat. Whether you are re-sizing a picture, zooming into a web site or using the well laid out keyboard to tap out a text message, everything feels fluid and natural.
Yes there are a few down sides to this phone, Bluetooth functionality isn't great (you can do little more than pair to a headset) and flash websites wont work, but these are just tiny faults which are bound to be fixed in a few updates.
If you are a Mac user, this will fit into your life really well. If your a Windows user, you will soon discover what all the fuss is about.
Enjoy!!!
forever on the internet checking my emails
I like the iPhone, it is easy to use and adapt for addresses, names and my contacts, a few bits I dont use on it but I'm forever on the internet checking my emails. The tariff with O2 allows me to do it all without having to bother about the extra costs as its all included, I,m hoping the 3G version will have the few extra features that the old one doesnt have.
iPhone doesn't offer mms messaging which is annoying
I changed to the iPhone from a Sony and after having all the features on the Sony the only difference really is the internet access for me.
The iPhone doesn't offer mms messaging which is annoying and if you want to send a picture its by email or nothing. I like the phone but I don't think the phone is as good as it was made out to be, maybe the 3g version will be better.
I just thought some basic bits should be on it and they are not. Still tying to get videos from my pc to work and the fact it matches whats on the pc is also a little stupid as I now have to have all my folders on there to have the pictures on the phone.
The design is flawless and impressive
Apple have once again delivered a fantastic product which has shown what can be done with todays technology. The touch screen reinforces Apples edge for uniqueness and is definetley the USP of the phone.
The 8GB allows enough memory to store all iTunes songs on the phone along with memory to save videos on.
It is user friendly to navigate, the camera is reasonable, it has bluetooth and finally, the design is flawless and impressive.
Apple's iPhone has surpassed my expectations
Since purchasing the phone it has definitely lived up to my expectations, and if anything it has in fact surpassed them.
I've found it hard to put the phone down since I bought it, and the features that the phone beholds are astounding; a 2 Megapixel camera, full featured e-mail and web browsing, 8GB of on-board memory.
It even has Wi-Fi and EDGE connectivity for the ability to connect to the internet completely free of charge when you're in one of the many free Wi-Fi hotspots that are located all around the country.
The phone itself is blessed with a 3.5 inch screen which is absolutely perfect for tasks such as browsing the internet and watching videos whilst on the move and so far I have had no problems whatsoever with it.
Quite simply the best mobile phone available on the market
This phone is quite simply the best phone available on the market. Internet, music, video, google maps and many others all available at your fingertips. Coupled with Apples ridiculously good UI and just using this phone on a day to day basis is a pleasant experience that will keep you coming back for more.
Executive style with a few poor areas
The iphone is stylish and light. I like the silver outline which gives the phone its executive high class look.
The features are great especially the easy access to emails, youtube videos and other sites. The camera was also great, didn't notice without reading that it was only 2 megapixel!
It's not too difficult to use but its not easy either. Hard to work out how to forward texts etc. Big problem was the fact their was no Bluetooth and it's annoying when auto texts dont stop.
Volume without earpiece is poor.
More style than substance
The iPhone is hard to beat for its simple, elegant and practical design. The connections are straightforward and easy to use. The only thing that lets it down is some would say it has more style than substance - it just doesn't have the features (GPS, PDA etc.) of some of its competitors at the top end of the market.
Way ahead of anything else
The iphone is simply amazing and way ahead of anything else in the market as far as I am concerned.
Yes it lacks certain features including 3G but I must say that its made up for in the WLAN and the access you have to wireless hotspots.
I can usually always find somewhere to pick up a connection and when it does its brilliant.
Way way ahead of anything else and quite simply its the best toy on the market!
The iPhone is leading the way in some respects
Ive had the iPhone for a week now and its hard to review. I think it is a great phone but it lags behind in terms of some features.
The software is way way ahead of any other mobile phone out there though and its a dream to play about with.
It looks cool but I just feel its lacking in features hardware wise. Just think it should have 3G capabilities.
Top marks to Apple though you can see where things are heading with mobile phones in the future. The iPhone is leading the way in some respects.
Buy an apple iphone I guarantee you won't be dissappointed!
I got one from America and I adore it. Its such an attention seeking phone!
All my friends have been playing with it so ive been the main kid on the block who has the latest toy. Not anymore as it comes out today! Its looking like its going to be massive here in the UK as well.
I just love playing with the iPhone's menu system. Just oooooooooozes quality like all of Apple's products.
Buy an apple iphone I guarantee you won't be dissappointed!
