Apple iPhone 3G S Reviews

Apple iPhone 3G S Mobile Phone Main View
Manufactured By Apple
Handset Overview

The latest incarnation of the popular touchscreen smartphone, the iPhone 3GS adds some significant improvements over the previous handsets. The iPhone 3GS now includes high speed data access, with HSDPA mobile broadband speeds now available, alongside WiFi, and with Bluetooth connectivity too. The iPhone 3GS can record video at up to 30 fps, and now has a 3.2 megapixel camera. These additions have not impacted the usability of the device in any way; the iPhone still remains one of the most pleasurable phones to use, with multi touch input for ease of use. The iPhone 3GS also comes with a music player, FM radio with RDS, USB, QWERTY keyboard and built-in compass. Available in black or white, there are two memory size options to choose from, with either 16GB or 32GB available.

A fabulous piece of modern design

A fabulous piece of modern design, combined with enough features to keep even the most hardcore gadget addict entertained. Excellent reception quality, great camera and plenty of storage for all your music. Added to this is the almost endless supply of applications to keep you amused forever!

this phone could not have been easier to get to grips with

I received this phone for Christmas after having my old Samsung for over 3 years. I had been determined I didn't need a new phone and so when I received it I was a bit reluctant to use the new technology. However, this phone could not have been easier to get to grips with. I didn't even need any instructions or any help from Google!

The fact it doesn't have a keypad is brilliant, as the keypad that comes up on the screen adapts to the situation (eg, putting the @ and .com keys in when you're on the internet, but not writing a text message). If you move the phone so the screen is horizontal as opposed to vertical, the screen moves too - which makes texting much easier, and internet websites much easier to read. Because of the large screen, it is even possible to watch videos clearly.

I find it really easy to type on the pad - it is not overly sensitive, and you can move the screen up and down using your finger. Again, you get used to this very quickly. Any applications downloaded are also controlled by your fingers, or by shaking the phone. This is actually fantastic, and I have had no problems with any of the games.

The apps I have got include several games, and a newspaper. I zoom in on the paper "double-pressing" with my finger which works very well.

I have not used the camera on my phone much but I have taken a few photos which are of good quality and the camera, like everything else on the iPhone, is very easy to use.

extremely easy to operate

Overall an excellent mobile, extremely easy to operate. Having a phone with you where you can download hundreds of applications for any purpose and a large storage capacity you never get bored. The internet function is very handy, its just how its displayed on a household computer and is very helpful on the move. However the battery life is very poor only lasting for around 24 hours and the camera quality is not very good and lacks a zoom fuction.

This phone is pure genius

This phone is pure genius. It's easy to use. It has a sleak design. The apps you can download onto it are never ending. The only down side with this phone is the battery life, but this is to be expected from this phone. Can't wait for the next iPhone.

fantastic camera and all my mates wanted to play with it all the time

I upgraded to the iPhone about a week ago. So easy to use, great for texting, fantastic camera and all my mates wanted to play with it all the time. But the battery is not very good. This isn't much of a mobile when it could do with a permanent power supply. My network provider talked me into a replacement handset which is the same. Come on Apple, if you can make such a great phone, why cant you put a decent battery in it?

The applications are easy to download and install from the AppStore

I've had this phone now for six months and absolutely love it! I had problems at first with the touch keyboard not turning but that was user error rather than a problem with the phone.

The applications are easy to download and install from the AppStore and it is really simple to transfer data from the phone to the pc and vice versa via iTunes.

The iPod on this phone is great, has a decent volume level too and obviously holds so many tracks. The only thing I haven't really got to grips with is setting a song as a ringtone. Unlike normal phones you cannot just go into the song options and select "use as ringtone" you have to take various other steps.

I'd highly recommend this phone to anyone!

fast connection to internet and just generally great!

I love my iphone! It's easy to use (especially if an Ipod touch has been used before), fast connection to internet and just generally great! The battery life isn't fantastic but lasts me a full day so I just recharge at night. I was worried about damaging the phone so I use a protective case with it.

I love apple products and the iphone doesn't let me down

This phone is a must have, I love apple products and the iphone doesn't let me down. The app store is an added bonus and although the amazing apps are to be paid for, you can get some pretty good ones for free! And sometimes the apps that are expensive go on sale! Fast Internet too!

The apps are very good and overall a good phone.

Bluetooth could be better, like being able to send pics and
being able to have proper ringtones downloaded. The apps are very good and overall a good phone. The battery life could
last a bit longer but I guess that is due to how much you use the phone. I am really glad they brought the iPhone out on
more networks as lots more people get to have the same fun I'm having with this phone.

All in all this is the best phone I have ever owned

After months of trawling the internet on finding a smartphone that fits in with what I want from it. I floated between the iphone and the HTC Hero. Both had what I wanted from function, I didn't need a fully featured camera, but liked a decent MP3 player.

The iPhone camera doesn't have a flash I know, but it takes great pictures of the kids when needed, usually at short notice mid action. I have found the lack of flash no problem as there seems to be a little light enhancement when I have used the camera indoors. Obviously it has an ipod built in, it is very easy to synch with my mac and itunes and the sound is incredible.

Making calls and texts is also very easy and the ease of the on screen keyboard is refreshing when you have been used to an numeric keyboard. The sound of the voice calls is very clear and I have had no issues with dropped calls. The apps store is something else, despite the cost of some apps, there are plenty of free ones available and you can probably get an app to suit.

All in all this is the best phone I have ever owned and would not hesitate to recommend to another. When it is time to upgrade in 15 months, I may even keep the handset instead of upgrading. I wish Apple would allow the price to drop a little.

It's the easiest phone I've ever used

This is a great phone when you get some apps on it, without them it's pointless paying lots of cash for. It's the easiest phone I've ever used and is fast when moving from various functions.

The annoying things are: 1 charge of the battery doesn't last long, the camera is poor, you cant change your sms alert tone unless it's jailbroken and it's bluetooth is not very good.

Its a great phone and has all the features you need

I've had my iPhone for around 6 months and love it. Its a great phone and has all the features you need. I am able to store all my contacts, pictures and music as well as download loads of applications. Three friends of mine have since bought iPhones and also love them. I've dropped mine quite a few times (oops) but it hasnt made any difference to the phone aside from a few extra scratches. Still in perfect working order.

app store is a bonus, especially for games to keep the kids amused

I love this phone, so simple to use, smooth, quick responding, straightforward, it cannot fail to impress. Apparently they have shortened some processes compared to the 3G version and it shows, everything is within a fingertips reach. Battery life is good, sound is good and the app store is a bonus, especially for games to keep the kids amused.

clear quality of videos makes the recordings on the 3Gs a pleasure

If you're looking for a phone which offers more than the ability to call, this is phone for you (that said, even the call features are extra special!).

Although not a huge change from the 3G, the 3Gs is faster - and that's not just a statistic, it feels faster! Opening apps...etc is faster. In addition the 3Gs offers the ability to capture video. Although this is nothing revolutionary, the way to edit videos (by pinching which section to keep) and the clear quality of videos makes the recording of videos on the 3Gs a pleasure. Unlike other phones which record video, the iPhone 3Gs records videos at full screen meaning they are large and a good quality compared to other phones, whose videos are often impossible to watch off the phone itself. A must have phone for all!

I am not disappointed

It was with eager anticipation that I ordered my iPhone to replace my previous Samsung smartphone when my Orange contract was ending. I am not disappointed.

The handset is excellent to hold and carry, for someone like me who has an Ipod Touch it is the most logical handset to use. Applications are extremely easy to load, and over Christmas more and more of my regular websites were emailing me to offer their new applications.

The only criticism which I have offer is that the camera function is pretty poor compared to the 8mp which my Samsung featured, having said that the rest of the functions and user friendly applications render the Apple to be in a league of its own.

Only problem is I've just heard from a colleague that a new iPhone is due later next year (2010) and I can't upgrade again for 18 months, get one if you can, you will not be disappointed.

browsing the web is made effortless

Having had Blackberry and Nokia in the past I can confidently say that as a consumer item, this is the best mobile device on the market and I run a mobile telephone company.

The iPhone text function is better than the LG Arena, and even if you have larger fingers this will not be a problem.

The scroll and enlarge function are such that browsing the web is made effortless and such itmes as google maps are readily usable, unlike on the Blackberry Curve where the screen is too small

sceptical about the lack of keyboard but got used to it very quickly

Fab phone, I was sceptical about the lack of keyboard but got used to it very quickly. The applications that you can dowload are excellent and very easy to do even if you are not very technical. Also you do not need to spend a lot on the applications as there are plenty of free ones.

Windows Mobile apps seem to be at a stand still

All in all a fantastic phone. A cut above all other phones available in the market at present. I upgraded from a Windows Mobile and thought the functionality of that was good and then saw the available applications that were free and downloadable. These are constantly being updated and the Windows Mobile apps seem to be at a stand still.

Use as a hand held gaming device, check work and home e-mails, share prices, weather forecast, you name it the iPhone can probably do it.

very impressed with this phone however it has a few downsides

I am very impressed with this phone however it has a few downsides. Number 1 is that runs out of battery power alot, I have to charge it 3 times a day sometimes even more, I notice it when I am doing things on my phone like apps, internet etc. If I dont use any that day I only need to charge it once, my last phone I only had to charge twice a week so big shock for me.

The bluetooth on it does not work, it has bluetooth settings and you can switch it on but nobody can send me anything and I cant send anything out, whats the point of having it when it does not do anything is my view?. I sometimes lose sound, I wondered why that is and its because the speaker is under the phone where my hand is covering it, please Apple you could have put it somewhere useful.

You have to use your finger to type which is very hard, my last phone Nokia Music Xpress 5800 I used my nail which was helpful as I have long nails. I had to cut them in order to operate, I was pressing the r letter and accidentally pressing the t letter so if you are thinking of buying this phone and you type in a message move your phone onto its side the screen will automatically change sides and the letter keys are larger which is helpful as it was very hard to do. I bought a pogo stylus which is the only stylus there is for the iPhone and it was not that good ended getting a refund.

The plus side to this is you will adapt and now I am a whizz at it, I dont need to turn the screen round for the bigger letters and I am making less mistakes and I have only had the phone for 3 weeks which is great, I read a review saying the typing was hard but you will get used to it and I was like yeah right, bear with it, it will get better I promise.

When someone sends you a txt with their new number get them to write the number on the txt instead of just saying this is my new number as Apple does not let you save it like that but it will if there is a number typed into the txt which is helpful but annoying at the same time.

I got carried away and downloaded a whole load of free apps and I soon noticed that there was alot of free apps and to take my time my phone was full of them so I tried to go to the iPhone settings and I could not delete them, you have to sign into itunes to do that how annoying.

You cant download anything else on your phone apart from the apps that are on itunes etc which is annoying but there is alot of apps and anything I have searched for I have been happy with receiving, there are also alot of time saving apps out there to, I have amazon, paypal, ebay apps on my phone and it is a real great invention I would like to shake hands to the person who thought why not manage your ebay account through a app. I also have the 02 app as well which saves me having to call 02 to know my balance etc.

Now the good stuff, dont believe anything you read about the iPhone being slow, yes it has its moments but it is so much faster than any phone I have had before, its even sometimes faster than my normal broadband and thats saying something and I am not with a mobile broadband either, the good thing also is all 02 pay and go customers get a free internet and wifi bolt on for 12 months which I think costs £7.50 a month rrp. Which is great.

It is not a difficult phone to navigate around as much as people think it is, its not. When I first got it yes I was confused I have never had a phone this advanced before, but once I got into the swing of it I was off. There is even a mobile me link where if your phone gets stolen you can locate it and even wipe off everything on your phone to, a great addition to have but you have to pay although you do get a free trial and a free email address also.

Speaking of email addresses I also have my sky email on my iPhone you just go to settings type in your email address your email password and wow it downloads, my old Nokia used to allow me to view my yahoo one but not my Sky one.

When your buying apps you dont use any of your phone credit either, I went and added £30 on my phone when I first got it to buy some apps and I did not need it as it comes off your itunes account you pay by debit card. Which is very handy to.

The camera on the phone is not the best but when on good lighting it takes a great pic, there is no flash but there is a free app you can download to get flash, there are also other apps where you can change the settings on your camera. Apple is very sly doing it that way giving you the basic camera then you add on what you need and want which is also very clever too as not everybody wants all that fancy stuff they may just want a basic camera.

Anyway I am sure there are other reviews maybe loads of reviews on the iPhone 3gs so I was just highlighting the important points I think you need to know thanks for reading and good luck.

far superior to previous touchscreen phones

I have recently got the new iPhone. The touchscreen is far superior to previous touchscreen phones I have had. You can do all the usual - text, mms, internet, camera. The camera seems quite good. Wi-fi and 3 G work really well for the internet. Instructions that come with phone could be improved but the Apple website has more details.

Largely a very good phone, but tricky to work some things out! once you know how though it's very easy!

still a benchmark to other phone manufacturers

The iPhone has been around more than 2 years, but the iPhone 3GS is the best phone by Apple so far and its still a benchmark to other phone manufacturers.

It's designed to be very easy and friendly to use. Email and ipod feature can be accessed in just one touch by the main screen. Music, videos and ringtones can all be downloaded on iTunes straight to the phone.

One of the plus thinsg about the iPhone is the ability to add on programs. Since iPhone has been around for 2 years, there are more apps to support the iPhone than other phones at the moment. Even better, a lot of the good apps are free so you dont have to pay anything extra.

Its Genius feature suggests what apps, ringtones, videos and songs based on the stuff downloaded to the phone. And if you like social networking, Facebook and Twitter can be accessed within one touch.

Its wifi feature makes it easy to download. I use wifi a lot in my place.

Gaming is excellent due to a faster processor and a 3D chip, and a lot of good games can be downloaded for FREE! Other smartphones on the market may be lacking a 3D chip.

It doesn't have a physical keyboard but its touch screen keyboard is very good with auto correction. Whatever way you hold the iPhone, its virtual keyborad always allows you to type with ease unlike other phones on the market.

The downside of the iPhone is that it doesn't have a flash for low light photography. Plus the iPhone 3GS is based on the 2 year old iPhone, new phones from other competitors seem to offer some features that iPhone misssed.

Overall, I would say the iPhone 3GS is still a very good smartphone on the market as an all-rounder at the moment.

To call this a phone is like saying the Hilton is a B&B

To call this a phone is like saying the Hilton is a B&B. I had a Blackberry for 2 years before taking the iPhone and I've got to say it's a world apart, it's not just a phone, an MP3 player, a camera but it's a hand held PC and more.

The applications are amazing - the map function is a good free alternative to a sat nav, you can find the nearest bank / fast food outlet/ supermarket etc at the press of a button. Games galore, the list is endless.

There are only two drawbacks to the phone in my eyes:
1. Battery life
If you use the internet or applications, the battery drains quickly and there's no way you can simply swap it with a spare. Mine has drained after 6 hours on occasions, an incovenience when you're not near a charger.

2. Apple Customer Service
Design, function - yes, service - no. The manual is non existant, if you want to know how this phone works you need to go onto the support forums.

Complete arrogance on Apple's part, but as they're so far ahead in other areas they can get away with it. Fortunately most problems are usually solved with a quick Google.

Would I buy this phone again? Most definitely, but be warned - it's not a phone, it's an addiction.

Brilliant phone, I absolutely love it, the best upgrade I have ever had! I was a bit worried about having to keep the phone for 24 months due to me getting bored of every other phone I have had in about 2 weeks. As you can keep updating what you have on the phone it is an ansolute genius.

to begin with was quite disappointed that voice activated dialling

I purchased this phone 2 months ago and to begin with was quite disappointed that voice activated dialling did not work with a Bluetooth headset. Happily, Apple have updated the firmware, so this now works perfectly.

There are thousands of apps available for the phone, some free and some paid for. With the amount of apps available, it is easy to customise your phone exactly how you want it for little or no cost.

the camera is one feature that hasn't really got any better

Its absolutely wicked, the new features make a good phone even better. Being able to copy and paste and video record is worth upgrading your phone just for these new abilities even though the camera is one feature that hasn't really got any better.

Apple make a big deal about how user friendly the camera is - it's certainly easy to take pictures (partly because it totally lacks any useful features such as a flash, macro, autofocus, etc that all of Apple's competitors include as standard)

speed of startup, applications and the internet is a alot faster

Having previously been introduced to the iPhone world with the 3G, we were quick to jump on the 3Gs bandwagon. A long hunt to find stock eventually found us with a black 32Gb and a White 32Gb 3Gs.

First thing you notice is that the speed of startup, applications and the internet is a alot faster than the old 3G. The design is the same as before, traditional iPhone design at its best, lovely curves...

The box contains the new style charger, which is really just a flat plug that you put the USB cable into, as well as the new head phones with the volume remote. Voice control is also featured on the 3Gs and you can have some fun with it!

Excellent Phone, well worth the money!
