The Motorola Defy Plus is a handset marketed on its ability to deal with the everyday knocks and bumps of daily life. Now Motorola have teamed up with JCB, creating a special version of one of the toughest phones on the market. Whilst the 'lifeproof' elements of the Defy Plus make it an ideal choice for the active user, the Defy Plus is also perfect for hard working environments, such as those found on building sites, where dust and debris abound. Teaming up with JCB, who have dabbled in 'tough phones' before, provides the Defy Plus with extra credentials for the...

The Advertising Standards Authority has banned a Motorola ad for the Motorola Defy Smartphone, which made the claim that the device was 'life proof'. In the ads, the Defy was seen being dropped onto the floor and not receiving any damage. However customers who had brought the phone complained that the ad was misleading after accidentally dropping their phones and damaging the screen. The ad made claims that the Defy was built to be 'pool party proof', 'dance floor proof', 'life proof', 'water resistant, scratch resistant and dust proof'. Motorola stated to the ASA that the ads were not misleading, and claims about...

Motorola has joined HTC and Sony Ericsson in confirming the arrival of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich to several of its Android devices, stating via Twitter the updated OS could be coming by the beginning of next year. The first device to rollout with Android 4.0 is the Galaxy Nexus, which was announced on the same day as the updated platform. One of the most well known names in the mobile phone industry, Motorola has been around since the beginning - one of the pioneers in communications. Motorola produced one of the biggest selling ranges in mobile phone history with their RAZR range - the ultra slim compact flip phone selling over 120 million units alone in 2005.

After a quiet period over the past few years Motorola have focused heavily on producing Android mobile phones, a platform which is helping Motorola to emerge as a force again within the industry and continue to gain a strong, loyal following having produced some exciting and powerful handsets of late.

History of Motorola phones

Motorola are one of the most well known names in communications, not just for mobile phones - pioneering the world's first working cellular system using GSM standard in 1991 in a demonstration. They were the world number one mobile phone manufacturer for selling mobile phone handsets until overtaken by Finnish company Nokia in 1998.

In 2000 Motorola supplied the cellular network to BT Cellnet in the UK - the world's first commercial GPRS network.

In 2005 their RAZR line of mobile phone handsets was so popular in the compact fold format selling over 120 million units that put Motorola to number two slot again in 2005 for phone sales for manufacturers.

Today Motorola focus on producing Android mobile phones and are seeing revivals of their stock with consumers with the Motorola Milestone and Dext. Other interesting releases include the Motorola Backflip and the Flipout which continue to offer options to suit a variety of consumer tastes.
