An Excellent value smart phone handset with worldwide GPS sat nav feature! Limited memory, limited applications but very good as a phone, and excellent doubling as a satellite navigation device. Especially like the ease of use for Internet, the speed camera alerts, and traffic updates. Can be a little tricky to get use to at first, especially if used to older mobiles (non smart phones), but I purchased this as a pre pay upgrade, being one of the cheapest smart phones available at the time and am impressed overall. Can actually out perform many features of Blackberry. Needs a descent qwerty keypad though, not just the touch screen one. And a flash for the camera would be an advantage.

The good point is that it is a touch screen, easy to use and the sound of music is fantastic. What I liked about the phone is that you can use it vertically and horizontally. I use it to call my everyday, receive calls and skype my family and friends. The camera is very nice, but you will need more light to take clear pictures. I like the colour which is silver/white, makes it look so stylish and I love the weight of it, not too heavy, just about right. I love the size as well, especially when texting, I have enough room, without having to press other numbers or letters.

I believe for the small price tag it is a great phone. It has all the features you would expect from a good smart phone such as GPS, 3G, a good touchscreen, and the User Interface of the Symbian operating system although there are some sacrifices made such as the camera which is only 2mp and the lack of wifi. The phone itself looks very good and in my opinion even better with the rubber cover which is another accessory although it is quite chunky. The touch screen isn't perfect but works perfectly, well once you know how to use it properly. Overall, I believe the Nokia 5230 is a great phone that I use everyday and is a great touchscreen smart phone when you have quite a tight budget. I have had no problems with the hardware or software and it has worked perfectly since I got it. I would recommend this phone to anyone.

Good points: An advanced phone with plenty of apps for a reasonable price. Excellent for networking, Internet use and access to Ovi Store. Look forward to using a wide range of apps, including music and photo transfer. Sat Nav works well after some early problems in setting up. However, see problem re bluetooth. In fairness, this may be a car audio system solution,
Bad Points: Mainly to do with support to set up and use- Handbook does not deal effectively with basic set up, Help is confusing and it is necessary to work through this like wandering through a maze. Main current problem is loss of voice over on sat nav when bluetooth is paired in-car, Any ideas as neither Nokia nor sellers Customer Support able to help.

Got this phone back in December 2009. Once I knew how it all worked, it was great for about a month. Ever since mid February 2010 I've been having problems with the phone. It started off just keep saying that the memory was full all the time and it couldn't connect to emails until memory was freed:- when checking the remaining memory there was still tons left. Had to phone up customer services on several occasions about this. Recently (for about 4 weeks), it has now decided to keep freezing randomly and you have to turn it off then on again to unfreeze it. The last couple of days it has even just decided at random to turn itself off (e.g. battery was fully charged yesterday, but even so it suddenly put up a low battery message and turned itself off). To say the least I'm getting very frustrated with this phone. I'm normally a big fan of Nokia, but this phone has now put me off. My service provider won't even change it for a new one, so I'm now in a battle of correspondence with them!! Would not recommend this phone.
