My Land Rover S1 has certainly lived up to my expectations. I purchased the phone two years ago from tesco (not available as upgrade from orange). It has been in constant use since, sixteen hours per day, still on original battery and am getting two to three weeks use on one charge. Yes if the GPS is permanently on battery time is reduced, but this is as per warning in the technical manual! It has survived some horrible abuse, full immersion, a number of 2+ metre drops, cement dust, dust from metal grinding, paintball excursions and use by children! I am thoroughly happy with its performance.

I live an active outdoor lifestyle - between my work in Construction, my family background in Farming and my hobby of Mountain Biking, so I thought that this phone would be the ideal tool. This thing is rudimentary at best, the technology inside is dire, illogical to use and unreliable. Yes you can submerse it completely, drop it and it will look fine and work fine... initially! Repeated impact from general living do have an effect on the phones ability to operate reliably. I have had one phone repaired and destroyed two, one of which was run over by a car! Real world testing should be the basis for manufacturers claims not laboratory tests! I would never recommend this phone to anyone at all.

Riding off road on my motorbike the S1 promised to be the right mobile phone for my outdoor activities. However I couldn't use it at all as the battery doesn't last for an hour. First I thought this problem might be related to an individual defect of this particular phone. After changing the battery the problem didn't disappear. In contrary after fully charging the battery the mobile switched off immediately once disconnected from the charger. So if I want to use it I have to keep it connected to the car-motorbike charger. What a joke for a "mobile"! Trying to sync my contacts in outlook I noticed that the Sonim is not compatible with Windows 7. In conclusion I spent 2200 AED for a phone which I cannot use at all. The advertisement is promising 1500H in stand by, stand by a charger!

Really disappointed with the battery life. I get 2 days maximum and it doesn't charge if it is turned on. So every night I have to turn it off for the night just so I can charge it and use it the next day - not good. From reading these reviews I find that I am not alone when it comes to the battery performance. Very disappointed.

Ok, the phone is tough as described, although the screen really does scratch very easily, mine got a scratch the first time it was in my pocket.
If you have the GPS on, then the battery will last a day. If its on standby, the most I've had out of the battery is about 8-9 days. The GPS software is rubbish to be honest.
The phone book is poor, the texting is a joke I'm afraid. It does have a dictionary, but this is very americanised, and the phone does not allow you to add words.
The camera is ok, but if you take photo's at the highest setting it struggles to display them when scrolling through to the one you want. Unbelievably, this phone will not send or recieve photo's. All you can do with photo's is transfer them to your computer or send them to another phone with bluetooth.
I'm sad to say I'm about to send my 3rd phone back now due to faults, and have asked for a different phone. I'm very disappointed with it for something carrying the Land Rover name. In my view, this is a old tech phone with features you had 8 years ago, packaged in a new case.
