This is the first Blackberry, or indeed smartphone, I've ever owned. The Blackberry hype is staggering, and at first it all seemed justified. The thing is though, the more you use the phone, the more several faults present themselves.
Firstly, the battery life is awful. The facebook and MSN applications supposedly drain the battery, but for a phone to struggle to last 12 hours is inexcusable. And this was without extra-heavy usage. On the plus side it didn't take too long to recharge - 2 hours seemed to do the trick.
The back cover kept coming off on my phone, the clasp must have been faulty. Checking on the intenet, I see others have also had the same problem, but I guess I could've sent it for repair if it bothered me that much. I contented myself with jamming it shut with a piece of folded paper.
The faux-leather back is nice, and the screen is great. The keys are just the right size, and the ball lights up which is great for use at night or in poor lighting.
The phone itself is simply too bulky. Lots of weight and size could've been shaved off the edges, and they seemed to have done just that with the new Bold. Also the camera is 2 mp which in this day and age is shocking. My old Samsung has 5, which was decent.
Otherwise the phone is easy to use, a great phone for a newbie to the smartphone market. Keypad excellent so useful for emails, texts etc.
There are several flaws but remember this is the first Bold and a revoloutionary model, so the new ones will hopefully iron that out.
Overall not a bad phone at all.

Great phone, very well made and will put up with being knocked around a bit. Keyboard is very easy to use and menu system has a good layout.
The only downside for me is that the battery life is not fantastic and phone needs charging once a day if your a heavy user. Except for this I cant fault this phone and would recommend to anyone.

The size of the Blackberry is a little overwhelming, yet the clear large LCD screen allows for superb clarity and viewing is a pleasure.
The only down side to the device is that the size does mean that simple texting with one hand becomes a thing of the past. This is definitely a two hand job. I have found that the central ball also becomes easily clogged with dirt, and as a result malfunctions. Overall though this phone is great!

A user friendly phone with a sleek stylish design. You can link your gmail, hotmail and yahoo accounts to your phone so you receive mail as and when they are sent to you, keeping you up to date at all times.
Blackberry Messenger is an excellent and free way of keeping in touch with others also on Blackberry. The 3G capability on the phone means that the internet speed is quick and you can stream video for viewing.
The memory on the phone is decent but there is a memory card slot for those who store a lot of pictures and/or music. The camera quality is not fantastic and the phone is rather large. Other than that however, it is excellent.

The Bold is brill for sending and receiving emails, but is not so good for surfing the web. It also crashes quite often and you have to do a battery pull. It doe have a lot of good apps and all the GPS apps work very well. I take the phone when I go mountain biking and the GPS tracker still picks up a signal even when the phone is in my pocket.
