T-Mobile has modified this HTC phone to label it for themselves. As with most OEM phones, the original HTC TyTN runs with no problems and no bad software design issues. However, the T-Mobile MDA Vario II has a few things that were not tweaked properly and for the savvy user, they are a must to have, yet T-Mobile attitude is to blame the OEM and the OEM blames T-Mobile.

It has Wi-Fi as well which makes it a nifty little laptop at times. Not to mention that it runs on the all famous and not so trustworthy Microsoft Windows Mobile OS. This is also another reason for being careful not to install too many things on the phone as the RAM memory gets eaten up too quick.

I bought this as a replacement for a much less sophisticated phone (Nokia 3200) and let me say there is so much on this thing I dont know what to do with it all, being in and out the office means I need some sort of organiser type device and this has it all.

The MDA Vario II from T-Mobile is fantastic for data input, e-mailing, text messaging and mobile internet usage. It can be slow if updated to Windows Mobile 6.0 which is frustrating. The touchscreen and stylus feature is good with a rotary navigation wheel on the side. Coupled with a 2 megapixel camera, it takes ok pictures, but could do with a better flash.

This is a good all round phone with excellent capabilities. The screen size is greater than many of the competitors, such as the Nokia N95, and is also brighter. The touch screen capability is very useful, and can be used without the supplied stylus using any suitable object such as pen, pencil or even finger.

The wi-fi and bluetooth facilities help make this an outstanding phone for business and international travel, as do the preloaded mobile versions of word processor, spreadsheet and presentation software. The only 2 gripes with this phone are: the screen does not tilt (solved on the new Vario 3); the stylus holder internal rubber grommet can fail and you need to keep replacing the stylus (expensive).
