O2 is to rollout a network upgrade, bringing faster 3G service to major UK cities. The update will enable DC-HSPA, (Dual-Cell High Speed Packet Access), which gives theoretical speeds of up to 42Mbps, by doubling up cell capacity to users when browsing the web. Just which 'Major Cities' are first on the upgrade list, O2 weren't prepared to confirm, although London, Birmingham and Manchester are likely candidates. O2 parent company Telefonica has launched Tu Me, a messaging app that allows free calls and text for O2 customers who use the Apple iPhone. The Tu Me app uses a data connection instead of the usual mobile network connection, working pretty much as an Instant Messaging service. The app, which is currently free to download, allows calls, text, picture messages and IM's, all from one convenient, easy to use application. Apple has released a small update to iOS, bringing the most current version of the firmware up to 5.1.1. The small update delivers fixes for HDR photography and general OS bug fixes. One of the previous updates to iOS set shortcuts to activate the camera from the standby screen.
